High School Class of 2018

@ak2018 isn’t U of Virginia harder to get into then virginia tech

@nyuhopeful44 You have a great list of schools, but I just wanted to let you know that you can’t apply to both NYU ED and Princeton EA because Princeton’s EA program is Restrictive Early Action, meaning that an early applicant cannot apply to any other private institutions early. The University of Michigan is public, but NYU is private, so you will have to pick either Princeton or NYU for early admission.

The Bioscience Program went well. The kids, who were 2nd and 3rd graders, were pretty well behaved. Coincidentally, the instructor was a high school chemistry teacher at one of the other schools in my county. He knows all of the chemistry at my school. He even asked me if I had a summer assignment. I said yes and that it was a lot of work and he instantly knew who it was. :))

I also asked one of the librarians about volunteering at the library during the school year and they said they had volunteer positions for checking out books. All I would need to do is apply. It wouldn’t even require that much effort or commitment. Most volunteers usually only do it for six months, then quit and only show up once, but I’m going to see how well I do.

@BucketsUCSC The Engineering program is more competitive to get into at VT, but UVA’s Engineering program, for some reason, is harder to get into. It’s kind of weird, since VT is more known as Virginia’s best Engineering school, but I guess that’s because VT spends more money on its Engineering schools than any other of its schools.

@TP2000 oh okay, thanks for the info

Sometimes I feel like the least-prepared person on this thread. :stuck_out_tongue: I barely know what I want to study in college. I don’t have too many schools picked out, but here are some I’m interested in:

Reach: Smith College
Matches: UConn, Boston University, Emerson College
Safeties: ECSU, CCSU

I bet this will change drastically by application season, though…

Application process starts by junior year or senior year?

What are you guys doing to study for the Reading and Writing portion of the SAT? I feel like the Princeton Review book only does a good job for math not English at all sadly.

You should be looking at colleges throughout junior year and the applications for regular decision are in winter of your senior year

Anyone else really wish they were a year older? I’d love to be working on applications now instead of studying for the ACT :frowning:

@nyuhopeful44 I’ve been wanting to start college apps since middle school, but I think when I actually start the process, its going to be terrifying. Not to mention all the essays I’m going to procrastinate on…

My list of colleges:

Reaches: Harvard, Yale, Princeton

Matches: Duke, Emory, John Hopkins, Vanderbilt

Safeties: University of South Carolina, Clemson University, Howard, University of Alabama

(But with God any school is possible; 1 Philippians 4:13)

you can’t say your matches, reaches, and safeties until you’ve taken the SAT @Tobster18

@Tobster18 i agree with buckets

Not only that, but even though you are basically set for college apps, colleges with sub 10% or 15% are barely ever matches, they are always reaches, because at that point, it is very difficult to stand out
