And first-year science olympiad teams rarely place high in States. ? ¯_( ˘͡ ˘̯)_/¯
I see what your saying, I a new member to CC, so i thought matches were more like school that would be like your second-tier of choices, as opposed to the acceptance rates. So could anyone please recommend what my matches would be according to my stats.
A match is a school you’re fairly likely to get into. A safety is a school that you’re more or less guaranteed to get into and is affordable.
So here is my updated list of matches;
Matches: Howard, Carnegie Mellon, UNC Chapel Hill, Harvey Mud, University of Miami
I have some really good news. My parents just told me we have a tour date for VT! I’m so excited! So my summer tour dates are now:
George Mason University: August 19th
Virginia Tech: August 22nd
Is it a coincidence that I will be going to VT on the 22nd and my graduating class is 2022? :))
@Tobster18 It is hard to say anything until you take the SAT/ACT.
@Tobster18 They have a point, you can’t really do a Reaches, Matches, and Safeties until you have done the ACT/SAT at least once. You could still do it with your ACT/SAT goal, like I did with mine, but it’s best to do it with your actual score.
But in all honesty, what is the real point of doing these? There is more to the application than SAT/ACT scores. I personally think we should not do chances on this thread because we really aren’t admissions officers. Chances should be done more to ease the nerves of those who are planning to apply or have already applied (rising seniors), so we probably shouldn’t be doing this until at least the middle of junior year, when we’ve all taken at least one ACT/New SAT test and when these “chances” will be slightly more accurate. Just my opinion.
Yeah your right, I plan to take my first one in November
@ak2018 I wasnt sure if tobster had taken the ACT yet or not that’s why i asked for a mini chance. Maybe if he had a 36 ACT,great extracurriculars, and a good GPA those school might have been a match. I didn’t want to roast his match list without knowing his stats.
@ak2018 awesome! Have fun! I’m visiting University of Pittsburgh on August 18th
@kassh4 You’re fine. It’s just that I didn’t want @Tobster18 to be discouraged when he hasn’t even take the SAT/ACT yet. He said in his chance post that he hadn’t taken the SAT nor the ACT. The matches that he put could still be matches.
@Tobster18 You have pretty great ECs and a great GPA, but now you need a great SAT/ACT score.
@Tobster18 did you perhaps take the PSAT because that could be used to gauge your potential SAT score
I was sick the day our school offered it and never made it up, but I just saw recent posts of college lists, so I went for it. But I thought matches meant your second tier choice of schools as opposed to schools that you are likely to get into. That’s why my matches may have seemed weird.
How accurate are the khan academy practice tests? I took the first one and got a 1450. When I convert it to my ACT score 1450 is a point higher.
I LOVED how the SAT didnt have the science section. The science section stresses me out.
I feel like they should be pretty accurate since Khan Academy is in partnership with CollegeBoard
ok thats what i figured. Does anyone have a official conversion chart SAT to ACT. Everywhere I look it is different. I am trying to convert a 1450 to ACT. Thanks
@kassh4 A 1450 on the SAT is equivalent to a 32 on the ACT. Just search “official sat to act conversion” on Google and the concordance chart from The College Board should appear as a PDF file. Scroll down a few pages, and you should find the New SAT to ACT conversion chart.
@ak2018 Thanks I kept finding random charts and they converted to either a 32 or 33.
I just figured something out. If I got a 24 on my first ACT practice test, that means, using the SAT/ACT conversion chart provided by the College Board, my 24 is a 1180 on the SAT.
