Do pltw classes actually count for college credit?
@wildguy57 and pretty sad
I think they’re all the same too. Princeton and Kaplan seem a bit easier than CB’s official Guide…I’m going to continue practicing too.
@Tobster18 Yes, they do! The PLTW Principles of Engineering class I’m taking next year is weighted, which is part of the reason why I took the class. I believe you would have to take a separate EoC in order to qualify for college credit!
Ok guys! I’m currently trying to shoot my first YouTube video! Somethings I would like to say:
- I apologize for my ugliness in advance! :)) :D
- Making YouTube videos is a lot harder than it looks. Especially if you're not filming a video one-shot (meaning you're going to be editing the video).
- I'm doing this all on my Android phone with a free video-editing software I downloaded from the app store.
- I'll be putting the link on here once I'm finished! Be advised, this video will probably make you cringe. It's my first video, so it probably won't be that good.
@ak2018 Hey, it’s the effort that counts :)) And I started school last Thursday guys… I’m gonna die this year. I don’t see how people can take up to six different AP classes. I only have 3 and I know it’s gonna be a lot. I feel like they’re going to be interesting though. I have APUSH, AP Gov, and AP Calculus. Since I have block, calculus is all year long and the history and gov class switch out every other day. It’s a pretty interesting setup. I already had to memorize over 137 words and I think I’m being tested on them this upcoming school week. Wish me luck guys. I’m excited for marching band, NHS, and student government too though. This will be a great year.
@nyuhopeful44 I knew that you meant that you had improved your SAT from PSAT by 80 points since the PSAT only occurs once a year. I was just saying that I hope to improve my PSAT by 80 points. Great score by the way.
My school needs to get it together.
We can’t choose our own classes because 2 classes are ‘mandatory’: Philosophy/Constitutional Law for my Law Program. I want to get exempt from it but I can’t.
But then again, 7/8 of my classes are required. But I need to complete my art requirement, I have like 0.5 credits of art req, but then my counselor told me I could move one class which is ASB and that I have to do a full year of art when I have 0.5 credits of it, like c’mon? That means I could drop that class to complete my requirement or would it be logical to get it over with? I want to study Political Science.
Junior Year:
Algebra II
Algebra II Tutorial
AP English Language
AP US History
Philosophy (mandatory)
Constitutional Law
Chemistry
Leadership
Senior Year Plan (based on Class of 2017 scheduling, if it happens):
AP Literature
AP Government
AP Psychology
Peer Counseling (for College Center)
ASB
Precalculus
Creative Writing (mandatory)
Writers Seminar (mandatory)
But then however if she puts me in those two mandatory classes and I haven’t completed my art, then I would have to choose between ASB or Peer Counseling and I kinda don’t want to do that.
Another thing, I went for registration and every art class was like packed (for instance: Keyboard was loaded with 50 students, but students might drop it so who knows and I have the opportunity to make any changes to my schedule during the second week of school. But people might drop some classes and we’ll see.
But if she says: “Every art class is packed.” Then, I’ll just stick to my schedule.
@cxprus Is there a reason why you can’t get out of the program?
@cxprus check with your GC to see if you can take art class from local community college, that’s what my DD ( and many others) plan to do during summers. We already got permission from HS, and took college placement tests ( English & Math), many low division GE courses offered during summer are online classes, you get HS and college transfer credits. Win & Win!
I tried shooting my first video last night, but unfortunately, my phone didn’t have enough storage for all of my videos, so I’ll be recording on my computer. If that doesn’t work, I’ll use my phone and edit everything from my laptop. It was a really good video too.
I also plan to have another video uploaded this week of my school’s Robotics construction lab when I go there on Tuesday.
So i just went for my registration, and I decided to drop AP Physics 1 for AP Seminar, so I’m still taking 6 AP’s (Seminar, Psychology, CALC AB, Lang, US History, Chem). I just wanted to know if you guys felt like this was a smart choice or should I stick with AP Physics 1 since AP Seminar is a new class?
@Tobster18 Personally, I think it was a good choice. Two sciences in one year seems a little heavy. AP Seminar is definitely a really good class to take, but the only downside being that there really is no credit you can get from it. The whole class is built on developing college writing and research skills.
It all really depends on how far in Physics you wanted to go to. If I remember correctly, you’re planning to major in something Biology-related, so only having AP Physics 1 done by senior year should be okay.
If I had enough space in my schedule, I would’ve loved to take AP Seminar. At our school, the teacher who AP Seminar, who we call Dr. since he got his PhD in English, is a really smart guy! I’ve met him before and he honestly seems like one of the most intelligent men you could ever meet. He also runs our school’s Debate Team.
Here’s a couple of links if you want to know more about AP Seminar:

I’m finally doing actual ACT prep! Now that my PE class is done, I can actually focus on prep for the rest of the summer.
Just for reference, how many of you are planning on doing the SAT, ACT, or both and which test/tests are you prepping? When do you plan to take those tests? I’m still trying to formulate a plan right now.
I am a student from Toronto, Canada and I was wondering when you guys plan to take your SAT || and your ACT/SAT or whether you already took the above tests. As well as what class one usually completes before taking the SAT || Chemistry and Math 2. It is a little confusing as an international student, so any advice in regards to standardized tests would be greatly appreciated.
I’m back!!
My schedule choices clashed so bad that I can’t take AP Chemistry this year or I’d have to give up choir AND AP Calc BC. :(( I don’t really see the point in continuing my self-study because AP Bio would be my only option and I’m not all that interested in it. I can always put on college apps that I had scheduling conflicts. At least I’ll get an easy A in pre-AP chem this year. The good news is that I got into my STEM mentorship program which has a final prize of a college scholarship for the winning team! The English teacher I’m going to have this year isn’t inside my STEM program, so my summer reading might not count?!
Junior Year Classes (Meeting with counselor tomorrow to finalize):
Pre-AP Chemistry
AP Calc BC
AP English Lang
APUSH
DE French 1/2 online
Honors A Cappella Choir
Honors Orchestra
STEM Mentorship
I’ve already started planning out activities for clubs next school year. I emailed Planned Parenthood and asked if they could do a presentation at my school for our Sexuality and Gender Alliance, I’m working to find a coordinator for a Black Student Union that I’ve been wanting to start since forever, and I’m about to contact the principal of my old Junior high school so that I can start a CS outreach program after school that would meet once a week. I’m also thinking about ways to encourage students in my school to register to vote and cast their ballots because so many seats in congress (the ones who really run the show) are up for grabs. Cupcakes and money anyone? I’m going to start doing my research on the different officials running and their stances so I can post flyers. I even want to do a mock election for the students (like myself) that are ineligible.
Well, I just finished my first good ACT prep session, which took about an hour and a half to complete. I just finished the ACT Math section of my prep book, so I’m just going to practice math questions using another prep book, The 5-Pound Book of ACT Problems, until the end of the week. I’m planning on doing prep again tomorrow, Thursday, and Saturday for an hour and a half each and then take a math practice test on Sunday. If I reach my goal score, which at this point is a 28, then I’ll prep for half a week more and then take another practice test, hopefully getting at least a 30 on that one. I had a 25 on math last time after only 3 hours of prep. I’m probably going to move onto the writing section next.
Weirdly enough, when I redid all of the my previous math drills, I only missed one out of five on each one. I would’ve gotten everything right on the six-questioned Coordinate Geometry drill, but apparently, my 7th grade math teacher taught me something really badly about switching the direction of the arrow in an inequality.
Anyways, I think Coordinate Geometry and Trigonometry are my easiest sections. I got all of the questions right on the Trigonometry drill! Granted, it was only a three questioned drill.
I’m going to go ahead and start on my AP Chemistry Summer Assignment!
@Hamlon Yaaass! Welcome back! How has your summer been?
I would say that your schedule is still good. I personally think Chemistry is just one of those classes that you need to be in a class for, especially for the labs. Hopefully, your AP Lang teacher will understand the whole summer reading mix-up. You also definitely have some really good ECs planned, can’t wait to hear how they turn out!
@MberihYm I’m planning on taking the ACT for the first time in April of 2017. If I get a score of 30 or higher on the ACT, then I’ll go ahead and take the ACT a second time in June. If I score a 1150 or higher on the PSAT in October, I’ll take the SAT in March. I won’t really be prepping for the SAT since I’ll already be prepping for the ACT.
Coincidentally, I’m also planning on taking the SAT Math 2 and SAT Chemistry test next year, both in June. I would say for SAT Math 2 test, you should have at least finished, or be finishing, Pre-Calculus. The test itself will not include Calculus.
For the SAT Chemistry test, I would say to take the test right after AP Chemistry, or a post-introductory Chemistry class equivalent.
@Hamlon I totally understand!!! After a few sets of emails with my choir teacher and counselor, I have dropped AP Calculus BC for Calculus AB and switched from Treble Choir to Madrigals (the highest level!!!), the reason being that Treble choir was held at the same time as french 3 (period 4) which was only offered during periods (period 1 &4) but AP chem is only offered period 1…so ya… that sounds confusing…
Here’s my Updated Schedule (not in order):
AP Chem
APUSH
AP Calc AB
AP Lang & Comp
Madrigals (Choir)
French 3
