Okay, so I basically made a study plan for the year, at least for the fall.
My plan is that everyday after school, I’ll go to the library. One of the bus stops my bus will go to is a fitness center that’s literally right next to my neighborhood library. I’ll be able to go to the library everyday around 3pm, do homework, and even do ACT prep and get home by 8pm. I’ll be able to do this probably for the first two weeks, then, once after school clubs start, I’ll do it Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Hopefully, this plan will allow for much more sleep.
A strategy that I’ll be implementing during the school year to lessen my homework load is to do homework whenever I have free time. To and from school, I will have a 45 minute to 1-hour bus ride, so I can use this time. I can also start homework during lunch when I’m finished eating, I usually will either wait in library for about 10 minutes until the lines get shorter or get my lunch as soon as possible and likely finish it in about 10 minutes. I’m a pretty fast eater.
Also, for anyone who has already started school, how would rate your junior year experience so far on a scale of 1 - 10? I’m getting a little anxious for the start of the new school year. I still haven’t finished my AP Chemistry assignment and I get my schedule tomorrow after 4pm.
Also, what clubs and ECs are you joining this year?
Also, I would like to officially announce that The S.N.H.C. will be returning this Sunday!! For those who don’t know, S.N.H.C. stands for the Sunday Night Homework Club/Crew and is a time on our thread, Sunday nights during the school year, where all the procrastinators who didn’t finish their weekend homework come together and encourage each other to finish their homework, at the last minute. I believe I was the one who thought of the idea and I honestly can’t wait to bring it back.
I brought it back because I was actually just texting one of my friends who will be in AP Chemistry next year and I asked her if she finished the assignment yet.
She said, "No. I honestly forgot we even had one. LOL. I’m probably gonna start it on Sunday night.
And then I said, “So you’re going to try to do an entire 16-paged assignment and go through two PowerPoints worth of notes in one night?”
And then she said, “Wait, it’s 16 pages?!”
And I said, “Yup! LOL! I’m on page 2. Better get started!”
@ak2018 So far it hasnt been bad, but we already did all the work for APUSH in the summer hw so the pace is gonna pick up a lot in a few weeks. Chem is really slow right now too.
I just researched NSLI-Y and it seems like a good opportunity but I doubt that my dad would let me. He is super conscious about the stuff that’s been happening overseas lately, and he would probably be super against me going, even if I got a scholarship, even if the host parents go through huge background checks by the organizations in the places mentioned. It is really disappointing because it would be really cool to learn Hindi.
So I went to my AP Chemistry teacher’s wiki page and almost broke into tears. She already has up a to-do list of everything we’ll be for the first two weeks!
**Here we go…the first two weeks are hectic and then it settles down a bit.
Safety and Equipment Quiz Wednesday August 31 and Thursday Sept 1
Nomenclature and Balancing Equations Quiz Friday Sept 2 and Tuesday Sept 6
Aluminum and Copper (II) Chloride Lab Due Friday Sept 2 and Tuesday Sept 6**
At least now I know what we’re going to be doing. I’m not exactly happy to learn that I might have two quizzes IN THE FIRST WEEK! Add that to the in-class timed essay on Into the Wild I have to write for AP English Language and a diagnostic test for AP Chemistry, meaning, as of now, I will have a test, one or two quizzes, and an in-class timed essay all during the first week!
If this is an accurate representation of my normal school week this year, which I hope it’s not, I honestly don’t know what I got myself into. :)) All well, I can’t back out at this point, before I even started!
On the bright side, I purchased The Princeton Review’s Cracking The AP Chemistry Exam 2017 Edition. It’ll come in on Thursday, September 1st, one day before the Nomenclature and Balancing Equations Quiz.
I want to apply for the Russian one cause I’m half russian and can understand russian but am bad at speaking, reading and writing. I would love to improve my russian skills and after doing a 2 week cultural exchange thing in El Salvador a few weeks ago I would love to do more of that type of traveling.
If I did the year long one I’d have to take a couple extra classes in the spring and summer so I could graduate, but I’m actually pretty close to graduation in terms of credits anyway so it wouldn’t be that bad.
That’s assuming I even get in of course lol it looks competitive.
I havent even touched my review books.
The books arent in order with what we are doing right now and I think it is pointless to use them to review for the tests as they are not detailed enough. They are prob useful for the finals and AP exam as it is not as much detail. Actually AP bio is too detailed for me.
@ak2018 I remember when I created the name “Sunday Night Homework Club” lol. Since I still have to finish summer Reading, I’ll be there! Though, Classes don’t start until Sept 6 (Soccer starts Monday tho).
ALSO, if you are good at the SAT Reading & Writing(650+)!!! Please pass on a few tips! I am doing pretty good on math (still need to brush off some careless errors), but reading & writing is kicking my *** (Excuse the harsh standard student language).
I’ll join the SNHC! I have to read Jane Eyre, which is the most boring book in the history of humanity.
That exchange program sounds really cool but none of those languages are offered at my school (except chinese if that was on the list.) If there’s one for spanish I would be very interested.
Rant time: This fall I will be taking Principle of Economics at my local college, and I am super excited! But sadly, like the other class I took here (I took Statistics this summer), I have to buy a textbook. No, not one that you can re-sell after your class is over. I am taking a class that requires a text book with an ACCESS CODE (or an etextbook)! For those who do not know what an access code is, it is basically a code that gives you access to either your textbook, course assignments, or both on your computer. An access code CAN NOT be resold… Think about that, I (and you) will have to spend between $70-$250 dollars on a textbook (Those are the actual costs of my book from different sellers)!!! Although it is a truly innovative idea, why should I spend so much money if I can not resell it (I know, I am being repetitive at this point). Over the Summer when I took my stats class, I bought a textbook for $80, AND THE ACCESS CODE DID NOT COME WITH IT AS ADVERTISED (#ThanksAmazon)! Just wanted to share my view on etextbooks. Rant over.
@ak2018 I’m not really sure what it would mean to rate my year on a 1/10 scale since it is pretty much the same as previous years. I am playing the same sport and hang out with the same people, so all of that is the same. I have a similar workload to that of previous years (although many more tests) and I am enjoying my classes for the most part.
I am considering dropping AP Chemistry just because I am absolutely not enjoying it at all. The teacher is so “high-pressure” that it kills the entire class for me. The material is fine, and while the teacher is nice and alright at teaching, she makes it seem like AP Chemistry is the only class that we are taking and makes it much harder than it needs to be.
@apple1983 I got a 660 on R/W. Do you have any specific questions? I can try to help. ^^’
So it turns out swim team is having cuts this year. I’m definitely not making it, so I emailed my coach asking if I could drop out. On the bright side, my synagogue is offering internships, so I may be able to do that instead
@apple1983 Personally, I don’t annotate. Since you don’t know what is important until you read the questions, I don’t really see the point. As for staying focused, I guess I just like reading, so I don’t have those kinds of issues. Maybe you could practice by reading longer articles regularly? I think that’s usually recommended to people studying for the SAT. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more helpful. ^^’
@nyuhopeful44 It can be various things, but I emailed the guy running the program asking if I could do something with writing. He responded that he had several ideas for me. There will be a meeting about it on Sunday, so I’ll get more info then.
SMH! I KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN! Everyone is trying to log onto Parent Portal at once and it’s causing a large Internet traffic jam! It’s literally like last year all over again! X(
I’m probably gonna get my schedule in a few hours now! :(( It’s not even for yet and I can’t get onto the website. The Annual Parent Portal Traffic Jam has begun! :((
