@ak2018 You use PowerSchool, right? Maybe the app will work.
@ak2018 my school uses Parent Portal too haha our schedules are released on Tuesday so I’m not excited for the inevitable crash haha
ap chem is killing me rn I got a 70 on our first quiz…the frustrating thing is my teacher doesn’t teach. he tells us to read the chapter and do some problems, then gives hard tests/quizzes with stuff we’re not even on in that chapter. i’m basically going to have to self study this course.
@fuzzypolarbears have you taken Chem 1 yet?
Why are the SAT’s trying to make me have a heart attack?
@apple1893 What happened
@kassh4 yeah I took it over the summer with the same teacher and he was pretty good but he’s not teaching now
@fuzzypolarbears our teacher said that most of the stuff we do first semester is review from Chem 1 so it might not end up being that bad just wait it out.
@kassh4 I just checked my practice score, and noticed a lower score than my previous practice test. I had one of those moments when it feels when someone scares you unexpectedly.
@LeopardFire I’ve tried to use the app, but I don’t know our school district’s district code! I even tried searching for our county in the app, but couldn’t find it.
@Marg532 Oh just you wait! :)) You’ll be waiting hours!
IT’S BEEN ALMOST 8 HOURS AND I HAVEN’T RECIEVED MY SCHEDULE! X(
@ak2018 That is crazy. Also, how is your AP Chem summer homework going?
@kassh4 I’ve been so preoccupied with trying to get my schedule, I forgot all about it. I still have like 11 more pages to get through.
@ak2018 Make sure you have all the summer homework complete and master it. I knew everything for my AP Bio quiz and AP Chem test and I got a 100 on both!!! It is worth over preparing for your classes right now as a good start can never hurt.
Also super bitter sweet moment right now, first week just finished and I realized this is the only time I will have a 100 in AP Bio, AP Chem, APUSH, and Pre calc.
On the bright side, I found a syllabus of everything we’ll be learning in Function/Trig next year.
Unit 1 Functions
Unit 2 Polynomials
Unit 3 Rational Functions
Unit 4 Exponential & Logarithmic Functions
Unit 5 Exponential & Logarithmic Applications and Equations
Unit 6 Unit Circle
Unit 7 Limits
Unit 8 Graphs of Trig Functions
Unit 9 Sequences & Series, Binomial Theorem
Unit 10 Trig Equations, Identities, Inverses
Unit 11 Conics
Unit 12 Trig Angle Formulas
@ak2018 Thats what my algebra 2 class looked like(minus limits but we kinda covered them indirectly)
OMG GUYS I FINALLY GOT MY SCHEDULE AFTER 9 HOURS! <:-P <:-P
Here’s what my schedule looks like:
- = Weighted
Period 1: Spanish 2 - Mrs. M
Period 2: +Functions/Trigonometry - Mr. H
Period 3: Engineering Explorations 1/Robotics - Mr. M
Period 4: +AP English Language and Composition - Mrs. B
Period 5: +PLTW Principles of Engineering - Mr. S
Period 6: U.S. and Virginia History - Mr. F
Period 7: +AP Chemistry - Mr. L
My Blue Day Schedule
Period 1: Spanish 2 - Mrs. M
Period 2: +Functions/Trigonometry - Mr. H
Period 4: +AP English Language and Composition - Mrs. B
Period 6: U.S. and Virginia History - Mr. F
My Gold Day Schedule
Period 1: Spanish 2 - Mrs. M
Period 3: Engineering Explorations 1/Robotics - Mr. M
Period 5: +PLTW Principles of Engineering - Mr. S
Period 7: +AP Chemistry - Mr. L
My Blue Day Schedule will start on the first day, my Gold Day Schedule will start on the second day, and they’ll alternate every other day.
Overall, I’m much happier with my schedule.
Period 1: Spanish 2 - Mrs. M
So after looking at my schedule, I thought she was a new teacher. But after looking through her class page, I realized she was my Spanish teacher from last year. Either she got remarried or went back to her maiden name, because her last name has definitely changed.
I don’t know how I’ll be able to deal with those sophomores so early in the morning! I also have this class everyday for about 50 minutes. One thing’s for sure, I’m definitely can’t be late for this class. The one time I was late last year, she gave me “the death stare” for two minutes.
Period 2: +Functions/Trigonometry - Mr. H
This will, technically, be my first time having a guy as a math teacher since the 7th grade. Hopefully, he won’t teach the same way my 7th grade math teacher did (he wasn’t that great). I have seen him before and he seems okay. I have read his syllabus and don’t know how to feel about certain things.
- He will not accept any work done in pen.
- I have atrocious handwriting and like how I write with pen rather than with pencil. It's much neater and feels smooth as I write. Most of my math teachers have let me get away with writing in pen, but I guess I can't get away this time.
- All of the tests we'll be taking WILL have a non-calculator portion and some tests will be done with out a calculator.
- For the most part, I got by on my Algebra 2 tests by just plugging stuff into my calculator. This is how I got away with not studying so much for class last year. I guess I'll actually have to study more than I thought for this class. My Algebra 2 teacher did warn that the class was not as calculator involved as Algebra 2.
- He has a 100-point test retake policy. Every quarter, he'll only allow you to retake a ceratin number of points. Meaning, if you get an 88 on a test and score a 100 on the retest, you'll have 88 more retake points left, because you scored 12 points higher. Once retake points are gone, you'll have to wait until next quarter to get another 100 retake points. I don't have a problem with this policy, as my testing average last year, without studying, was a 91%. I only retook tests that I scored below 85% on, so 4 out of 12 tests last year.
We’ll also have a textbook that he’ll give us, if we want to take it home. Most of the homework (optional independent practice) will come straight out of there.
Our textbook is called: Precalculus with Limits
Period 3: Engineering Explorations 1/Robotics - Mr. M
I haven't met the teacher yet, so I don't know what to expect. He's our school's new Robotics coach. He also went to the same college as our teacher from last year and they both know each other, so if he's anything like our teacher from last year, he won't go by the curriculum and will be really chill! :)) I guess I'll have to wait and see. I won't have class with him until the second day, but I'll try to talk to him on the first day. Hopefully, he's good!
Period 4: +AP English Language and Composition - Mrs. B
If what I heard is true, then I'm not going to have that many problems with this class or teacher. She doesn't give out that much homework, compared to Ms. V, and is a really easy essay grader. I'm probably going to like this class. I also like how I have it right after lunch. Because I have English 4th period, I will have first lunch. FINALLY!
Period 5: +PLTW Principles of Engineering - Mr. S
He's really chill and will definitely teach us a bunch! Since all of the 4th period technology classes have first lunch! This means I'll have first lunch both days!
Period 6: U.S. and Virginia History - Mr. F
He's definitely a new teacher. I kind of wanted the good ones, Mr. L or Mr. K, but we'll see how he does.
Period 7: +AP Chemistry: Personally, I’m kind of okay with him. Hopefully, he gives out a lot less homework than Mrs. G, the teacher I expected to get. Past students have told me that he is really good, but has a thick British accent that can be hard to comprehend. This shouldn’t be too much of a challenge. (Yes, he’s British. So is my principal and three other teachers at my school.)
@ak2018 that’s cool how you can find out about your teachers so fast! I go to a giant school so I really don’t know about a lot of them. I did some hunting on ratemyteacher.com and this is what I got:
1st: AP Chemistry-- couldn’t find anything on this teacher.
2nd: Honors Precalc-- he does a reversed classroom where we take notes at home and do homework in class. I don’t know how I feel about this, since math is my worst subject. I also heard he doesn’t explain things well.
3rd: AP Lit-- I heard this teacher is really nice and a huge step up from the other teacher, who is really “flakey” (I couldn’t think of a better term)
4th: Medical Interventions-- I heard she’s a good teacher but tough, which doesn’t really bother me
5th: AP Physics 1-- apparently he’s really good at physics but not the teaching part
6th: AP Economics-- couldn’t find anything
