It is 2am, and I have spent the last two ours reading the MIT Blogs (I LOVE MIT). I am going to sleep…
@BucketsUCSC I think the OOS admissions percent is higher because there are fewer people applying, and those few are much more qualified. Basically, everyone with somewhat competitive scores in California applies to the UCs right?
Let me start out with saying AP SPANISH 4 AND AP US HISTORY IS TORTURE. we have to do almost 60 pages of notes every week and have a spanish quiz every day.
@OMPursuit @apple1893 Thanks!
@BucketsUCSC Those statistics could be caused by self-selection(students) or percentage balancing(school). The OOS kids applying to UCs either didn’t do their research (OOS tuition is double the in-staters), eventually got a better financial aid package elsewhere, or were willing to shell out all of their parent’s money. Looking at the average test scores of UCLA’s applicants, it seems that the school takes the best California students first and then takes the best students from elsewhere. There’s also a very low yield from OOS applicants. 4,122 were admitted, but only 940 enrolled. I believe this is why their acceptance rate is higher. Percentage-wise, less than a third of them will even bother attending. I wouldn’t say it’s easier to get in though because the test scores/gpas of applicants are just too competitive.
@Tobster18
I forgot I had an account! Algebra 2 is a prereq for Calculus after Algebra 1 and Geometry at my school.
@CoolCakes In my school, it goes Alg1 -> Geometry -> Alg2 -> Pre-Calc -> AP Calc (I don’t know which one our school offers because I don’t plan on taking it but I think it’s AB), but most people just take either Stats (college credit, weighted) or Applied Math (which is seen as the “lower achieving” class) which is applying math to real-life situations to better prepare yourself for life, and it’s unweighted.
@Marg532 That’s exactly how my school works: A1, Geo, A2, Pre Calc. There’s also Algebraic Reasoning for people who need more time for math.
I got a 66 D on my first APush exam :(( I studied really hard for this test, I really don’t know what I did wrong!! does anyone have any tips for studying for apush? it felt as if everything we went over really wasn’t on the test at all, like, nothing I studied was even on the test, and I studied everything in the chapter! I don’t know what’s wrong, but I do know APush is my first period and that probably has something to do with it any advice?
I took an APUSH test this spring 2016 and I used apstudynotes.org for help. Though I gotta admit, that test was hard, waaay harder than any other test I’ve took. The only easy thing was the DBQs, but even that wasn’t stellar.
@ihavenoideawow I got a D on my first APUSH exam and ended up getting an A in the class and a 5 on the AP exam. It’s pretty common to fail the first exam in my opinion because you’re not used to the format. Over time, you’ll become more intuitive with what your teacher expects you to study. I would just make sure to outline every chapter and then skim over the chapter itself before the test to make sure you didn’t miss anything important.
Hey guys, long time no see! My dual enrollment class (Intro to American Politics) started on the 24th and my regular high school classes started on the 29th, and so far everything is just fine. I was able to get a head start on AP Bio and AP Lang so now I’m three weeks ahead in both of them. That’ll definitely relieve some stress later on when things pick up. I like my DE class and professor so far and it looks like it’ll be an easy A. There’s a 10 bullet-point paper due every week which only takes like 15 minutes to do, only a handful of chapters to read, and all the quizzes and exams are take-home. I didn’t know about the last part until yesterday when my soul almost left my body because my professor said we were having an 100 question quiz on readings I hadn’t done. :))
OMG, so I just got back from the craziest day of school EVER!!! In between class changes during first and third period (my second class of the day), the fire alarm went off. So basically, as I was going to my Engineering Explorations/Robotics class from my Spanish 2 class, I decided to cut through the library and say hi to my favorite librarians. As I was walking away, the fire alarm rang. I was then told to exit the building through the nearest exit. (Just to note, both the library and my Spanish class, which are right across from each other, are on the second floor, with the Engineering room on the first floor right under the second floor cafeteria.) As I exited the library and into the second-floor cafeteria, I saw what apparently caused the alarm to go off. All I saw was smoke coming out of the kitchen before I went downstairs and through the doors to the outside. Once I got outside, everyone was trying to find their 3rd period teacher. Once I found mine, I heard what sounded like a huge explosion! My first thought was that the school was either bombed or the fire actually did some really bad damage. Then I saw that it was the machine that controlled the school’s air conditioning. Soon, we started to see the firefighters arrive. We were outside for about half an hour in the light drizzle that eventually started to pick up. We were eventually let back inside.
Anyway, today in my Engineering Explorations class, we talked about the history of engineering and technology, which was pretty interesting. Then our teacher said that we could do a PowerPoint on the history of anything, so I picked Robotics. The presentation is due Tuesday.
My POE class was cool too. We learned about Mechanical Advantage and took apart some of the robots from last year.
I might as well go ahead and post all the homework I’m gonna have this weekend, because why not.

@Hamlon that is true, but UC’s are increasing the number of students it is offering OOS admission to every year which leads to less spots for in state students.
hey guys!
@MatthewW12 Suh dude
Anyone here prepping for an Olympiad?
@MatthewW12 Bio, AA, CLO, JM.
AMC (if it counts) and CLO. I’m also interested in NCO, but it’s not offered in my area. @MatthewW12
