@tonyk16 @MatthewW12 Suh dude! (I literally thought “Suh dude” wasn’t becoming a thing, but I guess it is!) I’ve been saying it for weeks!
@apple1893 Everyone was!
Oh I just realized I forgot to do my last two periods from the second day.
Period 5 - PLTW Principles of Engineering
So we didn’t really do anything exciting during the first class. The teacher made us fill out a survey online and we watched a couple videos on the impact of POE on students across the country. We also read the syllabus for the class. That’s pretty much all we did.
Something I noticed, very early on, is that there are only 17 students in the class. Apparently, we are the only class section of POE this year. Most of the engineering either took the Engineering Explorations 1/Robotics class or our new PLTW Civil Engineering and Architecture class.
Also, just for those who don’t know, I have my POE class right after my Engineering Explorations 1/Robotics class so I’m basically in the Engineering room for a full 3 hours every other day. There are four other people who are doing this, so we’re kind of all becoming friends because we’re in a cold-ass room for 3 hours! :)) That and we’re all on the Robotics.
So today anyway, we learned about Simple Machines and Mechanical Advantage. I kind of understood it, but I’ll do some practice problems to help better understand the topic.
Period 7 - AP Chemistry - Mr.L
This class was okay on the first day. We’re in a pretty cramped classroom that is really small. Basically, there are two long tables that have a bit of space in between them to fit the chairs. We’re sitting in alphabetical order by last name and, lucky me, I’m sitting in the second to last chair on the inside row. Meaning it will literally take me like 15 seconds to get to the teacher’s desk if I have a question. I’m probably just going to be using my textbook I guess, LOL my laziness.
Anyway, on the first day, we were given a bunch of papers to take home. We looked over a PowerPoint on lab safety and lab equipment, looked at a PowerPoint on Nomenclature, and then did a small lab. That was pretty much it.
Today, we took a non-graded diagnostic assessment to see what we remember from last year and a graded lab safety and equipment quiz. I think I did pretty well on it. Then we went over Balancing Equations for our quiz next week.
I also got my Spanish and AP Chemistry textbooks today as well as my locker assignment. My locker is the same general area as last year so it should be fine.
OMG I just got my first A in AP Lang! I’m currently at a 100%
I’m crying tears of joy right now! :(( I just my grades in for the first week. Here they are:
AP Chemistry: 98%
AP English Language: 100%
U.S. and Virginia History: 100%
I’m honestly really happy, but in reality, this will probably be the only time this year my grades will be this high.
After doing some reevaluation, I think my new projected weighted GPA will be between 4.4 and 4.6.
@awesomepolyglot Sorry, but would you mind explaining what AA and JM entail? I have never heard of them
Also, just got progress reports today with Straight A’s. I’m lucky if I can maintain these grades though.
Astronomy and Astrophysics and Junior Math.
I have straight A’s!!! cause classes haven’t started yet
My classes start on Tuesday! I’m so excited but also pretty nervous to find out how much nightly homework I’m going to have the rest of the year… Also I’m a good nervous because Tuesday is ALSO when the musical that we’re putting on is being announced! I know that right after we leave that meeting I will be researching the show, listening to the full soundtrack, and trying to cast my friends and myself!
3 1/2 weeks of school and here are my grades:
AP Chem: 97.9%
APUSH: 98.9%
Madrigals: 100%
French: NA=> still no grades on Q
AP Lang/Comp: 99.9%
AP Calc AB: 97.9%
I’m so happy!!! I thought this year would be like super hard to keep all A’s, but it looks like it’ll be doable!
Also, today was my school’s Club Rush (kinda like a club showcase/ vendor thing) and I joined this club called “The Thirst Project”. I’m really really really excited!!! We are going to educate others about the need for clean water all over the world and raise money to support the cause which will be sent to places like Africa! This is actually a national program too! You guys should see if your school have this club or look into starting one!
So I was bored so I went and looked at my schedule on School Tool (don’t ask why because I have no idea either haha) and I saw that one of my study hall teachers changed! My every other day study hall after lunch was supposed to be the regents ush teacher, but is now a well known special ed teacher/teacher’s aide. I don’t necessarily have an opinion on her, but she is closer to my APUSH classroom than the regents USH classroom was, so I’m not complaining. Still probably going to get borrowed out, no change there.
So apparently my college classe (online class) has started! I missed the first deadline by 23 hours lmao. It was just about me introducing myself, BUT I DID IT ANYWAY (savage right). I did the second assignment, so ik I’ll get partial credit.
@apple1893 STOP MESSING AROUND, GET SERIOUS (I can’t take myself serious rn)
So today I was reflecting on my middle school years and I remembered something that was so hilarious. It honestly shook me up when it happened but I shrugged it off afterward. Apparently, in 7th grade, I had science first hour and the teacher handed us all our of graded tests. I’m the type of person that always checks on what I got wrong, and I would literally analyze every wrong question to learn what I could’ve done better. It’s just the person I am :)) So, when I had my test back, I got something like 15/16. I had 1 question wrong, and when I went to look for it, I found out that I had actually marked the right answer. The teacher marked it wrong with a big slash. Being the type of person I am, I went to the teacher and told her about the problem. She smiled at me and told me “I did that on purpose.” It was so freaky lol. Then, she went on the grading portal online and changed the score. I don’t even know if she would have eventually told me about the trick if I hadn’t found out. She was a serious kind of teacher but she would always play around at times haha.
@apple1893 I get that feel (on both accounts)
From someone who took an online class 'n did well: really take that time to understand the problems.
You’ve gotta be your own teacher, pretty much.
Also, the [lovely] professors like taking discussion boards down immediately after discussion assignments.
Why?! Where’s the /real/ discussion- like, about the coursework…? p.p
What’s the poooint
@OMPursuit yea, these discussion boards are trash… I’ll get used to it and become my own teacher as the school years starts to get going.
if it makes you feel any better about it, I also got into mine a day late (due to scheduling confusion) ^^ @apple1893
To anyone taking APUSH, AP Chem, or AP Bio: What chapter are you guys on in your classes I want to compare how fast our classes are moving.
APUSH: We just took a quiz over chapters 5-6 and test is next week over 1-6 spending most of next week learning how to write essays and stuff
AP Chem: Somewhere in chapter 3 or 4. My teacher tends go get off topic so we go really slow, at least for now.
AP Bio: We just took a test over chapters 1-5 today.
