Today was pretty OK. Spanish 2 was great. I was confused by multi-view drawings and how to do them on paper in Engineering Explorations. I ended up asking my teacher to help me understand it. In POE, we did our first design problem. We’re currently building a first-class lever. In AP Chem, I got an 83 on my quiz and practiced Metathesis.
Our honors math program is projected to average a 33.1 on the Math ACT. Man, that’s crazy.
@kassh4 are you in the program, and did you guys all take an ACT practice test?
@ak2018 I knew I was eligible for dual citizenship because my mom was born in Canada. I was looking up stuff regarding dual citizenship on the Canadian government website, had a question about whether my mom renounced her Canadian citizenship when she became a US citizen, messaged her the question, and received my answer the next morning when I woke up. If my mom had renounced her Canadian citizenship I would have to go through the full process to gain citizenship but since she didn’t I became a Canadian citizen at birth. We didn’t realize it until now. All I have to do is fill out the application for a citizenship certificate, get the certificate, and then get a Canadian passport. Thank goodness I’m looking into colleges in Canada, otherwise I might not have found out.
I started looking into a summer program after looking at the college’s astronomy program. Now I have to wait until December and then fill out the application and apply!
@frazzledazzle @Marg532 What college classes are you taking? I’m planning on majoring in Public Health so I might do something based around that or just some general education courses.
@frazzledazzle Well that’s great!
Today was so great. I had an awesome class today in Spanish and Pre-Calculus. In Pre-Calc, we reviewed for our test on Monday. Our teacher then passed out applications for our school’s Math Honor Society (FINALLY)! AP Lang went pretty well. We had timed essay that half the class didn’t finish in time, we were given about an hour and twenty minutes. Our teacher decided we’ll just finish the essays next class instead of making it homework (I swear to God, it’s like she doesn’t like the thought of giving us ANY homework. I’m not complaining though. Bless her heart and soul because I already have way too much!) U.S. History was pretty OK, but our class is terrible behavior-wise. Our teacher was pissed with our behavior. I felt sorry and I wasn’t even really part of the problem. I’m one of the quiet ones.
So, I’m currently after school in the library doing a plethora of clubs and activities.
To elaborate more on the invitation and application I received for the Math Honor Society, the requirement are that you must be in at least Pre-Calc, pay a $10 membership fee, have a B average in Pre-Calc, and tutor people for one hour a month for at least 6 hours over the school year. Through this club, we’ll be given scholarship opportunities and even compete with our math team. If I decided to do the club senior year, I will get the Mu Alpha Theta honor cords at graduation as well. I think it would definitely help my application and I’m definitely doing it! The first meeting is next Thursday! YAY MATH!
I also participate in our school’s Young Adult Book Club on Tuesday. It was honestly really good and I felt like I was with my kind of people (PEOPLE WHO LIKE TO READ FOR FUN!). We will starting our first book in two weeks. We also had cookies!
I also decided to join The Forensics Team. I came there late because I had a lab for AP Chem to do right after-school. I was told what we’d be doing and I went ahead and picked an event. My event will be Speech-Oratory (Speech Giving) in which I will be giving speeches about topics I’m passionate about. I also have a second event which is Improv where I’ll be doing improv for 10 minutes. Basically, I’ll be doing a one-man show. This is the closest I’ll get to doing Drama Club, so I’m pretty excited.
I can’t wait! These are only the clubs that have started up. There are still more to come!
Today was the first meeting of my high school’s book club, which my twin sister is the president of. We got six kids (including me and her) today, plus the two library workers, and it went pretty well! Its nice to have a low-key EC, I think our small size actually helps in that regard.
I’m pretty sure I did horribly on my APUSH DBQ… My first body paragraph was just rambling about the Chesapeake. I am not looking forward to seeing my grade.
I have a Pre-Calc quiz tomorrow. Does anyone know any good websites for math help? I think I’ll start with Khan Academy, but I was wondering if there were any other places I should know about.
Weirdly enough, I feel like my most relaxed core class is AP Lang. We just have discussions every day, and she never checks the homework, which is usually just reading and “considering” questions. Our first actual assignment isn’t due until next Friday. Its the only class I don’t have grade for yet!
@BucketsUCSC Yeah im in the honors program. the number is based on the PLAN test and average growth rate from previous years and how much our ACT Prep class should help.
@lycoris I’m planning on taking an introductory astronomy class and the lab that goes with it. I want to major in either astronomy, planetary science, or physics. Mainly the first two. Physics is the back-up plan.
oh my gosh we did a timed write in ap lang today and i swear i failed
This Multivariable Calculus course is so impossible!! It’s so hard to follow because I haven’t got the book yet, and I learn best through a large textbook.
Do any of you lucid dream? I’ve gotten into it again after I had one by accident. I was flying in my neighborhood and it was kinda cool. The other day, I discovered that if I leave the window open and get rid of the comforter, I wake up in the middle of the night, which is perfect for a Wake Induced Lucid Dream. Hopefully I can do one tonight!
@lycoris I took Intro to American Music Theory last year, which is one of the 4 electives the music department has besides band and chorus (I’m taking 2 more this year, but they aren’t college courses).
This year I’m thinking of participating in a Leadership program in my county that meets on Saturdays at my local community college that will count for one credit (a small reward, but way cheaper than a credit at some of the other schools that I’m considering). I might not do it because of the 20min commute there and back (my mom would have to drive me because I don’t have a license, much less a permit, yet).
Next year, I plan to take French 4, Stats, and Career and Financial Management at my high school.
And over the summer between junior and senior year (aka this summer) I can apply for a scholarship for a 3 credit class! I’m definitely going to try for that.
If I do all of those things, I will have 19 college credits already by the time I graduate high school! The Intro to Music Theatre and the Leadership one will probably count as electives, the French 4 will count as the completion of a foreign language requirement at most schools I’m looking at, Stats will possibly cover a math requirement (if the requirement is only one 3 credit course). I don’t really know what CFM would count as… it combines 2 courses into one year to get me 6 credits, so I think the Career and Educational Planning credits will count as an elective or possibly a GE requirement, and the Personal Money Management credits are in the business department of my cc, so it might count toward my desired Business minor in the future, or possibly just an elective course.
But also, I will get college credit for my WHAP test at most, if not all, the schools I’m looking to apply to (off the top of my head), so that is 3 more credits and a history GE requirement that I won’t have to do!
@Soccer1235 I mean, I’ve always wanted to! I’ve read about the different methods…
It’s never worked for me yet, though. My dream retention is still weaksauce. 0.o
Im doing full time dual enrollment this year and senior year. I also have 4 AP credits.
Dang it I woke up too late today. Oh well, I’ll try again tonight
@LeopardFire I kid you not, our school’s Young Adult Book Club has about 25 people in it.
I have my first Pre-Calc test on Monday. I would also try looking on OpenWare for some study stuff. Khan Academy has definitely helped me too.
My AP Lang class is also pretty lax! We haven’t had any homework yet!
@frazzledazzle What a coincidence! I also had a AP Lang timed essay yesterday. I didn’t finish it though. Half our class didn’t really finish their essays, so our teacher said we’ll finish them next class.
