High School Class of 2018

I’m, hopefully, taking the Chem and Math 2 SAT tests at the end of the year.

The UVA chat last night was pretty great last night!

Do you guys have your SAT/ACT done? If yes, what was your score?

@MberihYm Not yet. I’m taking the SAT this winter. I did take the PSAT last year (1220/1520 | 570 R, 650 M) and I will be taking it again next month.

Nice! I am a Canadian student from Foronti so I was a little confused as to when a junior would usually take the SAT/ACT. Thanks! Also have you previously taken ap exams?

@MberihYm Take it around February or March. Study on Khan Academy beforehand to get a sense of what’s on the exam.
I took AP Biology last year and am taking AP Language and AP US History this year.

Review of Yesterday:

Spanish 2: Learned about stuff I forgot! LOL

Engineering Explorations/Robotics: Found out I got a C on my Multi-view Drawing Sketch quiz. I honestly hate multi-view drawings. It seems so confusing to look at and recreate the top, bottom, and side views. Hopefully, I’ll do better with CAD next class, which is tomorrow. We also did an engineering challenge in which we had to get into groups and create a structure, out of two sheets of printer paper and two index cards, that had to hold up the highest number of textbooks it could. Unexpectedly, me and my partner’s project, which took two minutes to make, was able to hold 8 textbooks before collapsing on itself. We were very close to the class record of 10 books.

PLTW Principles of Engineering: We continued our lab into levers. I currently have a 100% in the class.

AP Chemistry: We did a lab and studied for our Stoichiometry quiz tomorrow.

Had my first day of school because I only have one class Wednesdays, chem at 8 in the morning.

I did not get enough sleep, especially because I had to get on the bus at 6:40. The bus to the college was super crowded but I was one of the first ones on so I got a seat. Our chemistry class only has 11 people because the teacher is apparently super hard but I got a sense that it was doable today. We have a polyatomic ions quiz Monday though :(. After class I went to the library and made and studied a quizlet for those ions and then I wandered around trying to find the running start office to turn in some paperwork. I couldn’t find it so I gave up and now I’m on the bus to go to school for a robotics meeting and watching the engineering teacher walk across cardboard bridges lol. This bus has wifi which is really cool. Anyway, I have my first math test this afternoon and I’m kinda nervous cause I’m super tired but I guess I’ll just drink lots of coffee hah. Then I have climbing team and that’s it for the day.

Today, so far, I learned more in Spanish, started our new unit in Math, and reading a newspaper in AP Lang. Speaking of AP Lang, we actually had cupcakes and cookies today because it was somebody’s birthday in our class today. Our AP Lang teacher actually encourages us to bring in “treats and sweets” whenever someone in our class has a birthday, even if your birthday doesn’t fall on the day we have class… We’ve been having treats in our class at least once a week and it’s honestly really fun, but does kind of get me off track from my work. That’s probably due to the sugar.

Since my birthday is on May 10th, the day of the AP Lang exam this year (LUCKY ME), I’m planning on bringing in a cake or cookies for us to have AFTER the exam so that way I don’t give everyone a sugar rush right before the test and everyone will have something to look forward to after the test.

@ak2018 I have finals week the day after my birthday, rip me :frowning:

My birthday is this Sunday, on a marching band competition day. Hooray for me! Haha

My birthday isn’t until early January - the second day back from winter break at my school.

I have a spreadsheet for college admissions. I color coordinated it today and organized the colleges within the reach, match, and safety categories by acceptance rate. The bar graph for acceptance rate looks so good now! The bars get longer as the graph progresses from left to right. The spreadsheet looks so good now!

My birthday is Feb 5
I went on the common app website and looked at all of the essays each school requires so I can get a head start on them. There’s a lot! The Ivies have like 5-10 each!!!

@nyuhopeful44 I’d rather have more essays than less. Each essay lets you show more of your personality.

My birthday is tuesday and I have so much going on.

@nyuhopeful44 The common app resets itself every July, though.

@singingwriting Happy early birthday!

@nyuhopeful44 whoah that’s a lot of essays! i always thought colleges had like 2-3 supplement essays but i guess not

@frazzledazzle actually they changed it recently so if you make an account in your junior year it will last through the application cycle senior year (so now it resets after 2 years) or something like that.

@frazzledazzle They didn’t do that this year. Some Seniors started their essays last January when the 2016-2017 prompts came out. University-specific supplements would be the issue.

I got my act scores back (not the writing but the composite) from the September 10th ACT and I got a 33. I was hoping for a 34 because I feel like that makes a pretty big difference even though theyre both in the top 1%. Is it worth to retake it in hopes of a 34+? I don’t want to dedicate TOO much time to studying since I already did a prep class during summer for it. (Btw this is my first real act test score).
