High School Class of 2018

@ddeebaa A 33/34 are pretty much viewed the same way. A teacher told me to always take the ACT/SAT twice, but I don’t think that applies in your case. If you can raise your score without sacrificing too much time, I say go for it! Otherwise, save your money and splurge on whatever you want.

@frazzledazzle I’ll still have my essays written next year. What are the chances that colleges will change their supplements? And the common app prompts are usually pretty similar anyway

@Soccer1235 @Hamlon Thank you for letting me know that!

@nyuhopeful44 That’s true. I should start brainstorming my essays at some point, then.

hey guys quick question: since i took ap spanish and finished my elective requirement last year, i have 2 open slots in my schedule with one being a free period and one being TA. the free period won’t show up on my transcript but the TA will and i’m worried this will look like i’m not taking as many courses as i can. the thing is we only have a couple elective courses and i already took 1 and our other elective courses are really boring so i elected to do be a teachers assistant for my favorite teacher. do u guys think i’ll be good in terms of schedule?

I think you will be fine. I have 2 free periods this year, one of them is everyday and one of them is only every other day. I thought about taking an elective that fell in one of those, but decided against it because it gave me time to do homework (which I desperately need). I even scheduled myself to ensure I got these free periods! So just take the free period you have and enjoy the fact that you could get homework done before you even get home!

Well, I’m pretty sure I did terribly on my AP Chem quiz! :((

Has anyone else reached that point in the year already? Earlier this week, I described my school life with an allegorical statement.

I’m falling down from the heavens and am unable to turn around to determine my altitude. While falling, I feel as free as bird. Then, I start to feel large pressures of air blow against my chest. These pressures eventually die down and I’m once again free falling without a care in the world. Well tomorrow, that’s going to change. Tomorrow just might be the day my body meets the earth. Now the pressures are back and stronger than ever. And now, I must decide whether those pressures will be my savior or my murderer.

I just finished writing this and now I feel much better! Sometimes, writing poetry really helps to clear the mind!

@ak2018 Me with AP Language. I had some problems that resulted in 2 assignments being turned in late. 10pts deducted per day. I have a B now when I have As or A+s in the rest of my classes.

I got a 98% on my first AP Micro test!

I sat through two lectures that covered the same thing today lol. Thats what you get when you take both physics and chemistry. Also my physics professor was dressed like Gandalf so thats a thing.

I may be joining too many clubs! Diversity Council (once a quarter: not a big commitment), Math Club (don’t know how often), Interact Club (once a week), Study Buddies (I’m making this club, probably once a week), Ping Pong Club (don’t know how often), Key Club (once a month), Unit Assembly (kinda like student council, not sure how often), and then I have swimming on top of all of that! I hope I can handle this well.
On the flip note, I got a 100% on my AP Chem test today on the first half of chapter 4 :slight_smile:

@Marg532 thanks you’re right i always freak out over random things haha

@Soccer1235 that sounds awesome i wish i had that many clubs at my school

@ak2018 That was REALLY GOOD!

I know it is only the 4th-5th week of school but is anyone else losing motivation or starting to feel burnt out because of Junior year? I wasn’t the best student for most of my school career and this is the first year where I finally got serious about my grades and I currently have all A’s ( by this time last year I would have been at mostly C’s and B’s and maybe one A ) but I’m starting to slip, I’m procrastinating and not studying as long as I should for tests, my homework is getting done late in the night. I love what I’m learning but I can’t shake this idea that I’m somehow not as good as everyone else. I really got myself together this summer and so far I’ve been 100% dedicated to my GPA but I can’t really describe my funk, I don’t want to lose this progress. How do you guys find motivation again?

I got a 100 on my English quiz… YEET

@fuzzypolarbears Glad I could help :slight_smile:

@lycoris I’m already super burnt out because of the sheer amount of APUSH homework I have every week. I currently live to finish my APUSH homework on time. I don’t talk to my BF as much as I want to (he’s in college so communication is already pretty hard as it is). But I keep telling myself that this is only for this year, and then I get a 3 month break and I start all over again. I keep telling myself that making it through this year with more challenging classes will make me a better candidate for admissions (thanks, WHAP teacher of past, for making me realize that!). I keep telling myself that it’s worth it to push through the stress and the workload and all of that.

But on a less burnt out note… My homecoming game is tomorrow! Our school went under huge renovations, and this is the first game of the season at the new football field! The football guys are excited, and so are we in the band! Tomorrow at school we wear our school colors (black, white, and red) and go all out. I’m in student council, so I will probably be in the student council relay race between the grades, because our secretary doesn’t want to bob for an apple (nice going, secretary). I’m really excited, but I have to bear crawl in front of the entire student body, and I’m not the most popular person in my grade, so I’m also anxious for the impending ridicule to come…

@lycoris That’s basically what’s happening to me right now. My mom is making me have a guidance appointment tomorrow because of it.

@Marg532 That’s exciting!

I got a 92% (an A) on my Pre-Calc test! <:-P :smiley: My grade went up 9% from an 82% to a 91%.

@lycoris I’m the same way, except I seem to never have motivation, even at the beginning of the school year. I failed my first Pre-Calc quiz, so I have a D+ for now… You think that would shock my system enough to get my shit together, but as usual, I never concentrate during Pre-Calc. :\

It turns out my Chem teacher made a mistake while teaching us significant figures yesterday, so she’s giving my class two bonus points on the next quiz! She’s too nice.

@frazzledazzle I have so many missing assignments for AP Lang I need to finish! My teacher is going to be grading some of our stuff so my grade is about to go down. Luckily, she doesn’t have a late work policy, so we can pretty much turn in everything in at almost any time.

@fuzzypolarbears I also always freak out about random things. I can get myself so stressed out sometimes.

@BucketsUCSC Thanks!

@lycoris I actually just jumped over my first hurdle yesterday (meaning I just had my first burn-out of the year :)) ). There was a time in my school career where I wasn’t as serious, but I guess I found motivation later on. I have the same problem with time management (procrastination). I think most of us do. I would say, first of all, to not compare yourself to other people. I’ve been there, done that! That will definitely discourage you in the long run. Second, motivation-wise, I’ve been trying out an old technique I used in the 8th grade. I would write little motivational notes on my binders, my notebooks, and my locker. I would write down my goals for the year as well. Maybe that will help! Good luck to you, and all of us! :smiley:

@frazzledazzle Hope the appointment went well!

@LeopardFire I’m kind of the same in Pre-Calc. I feel like my teacher somewhat over-complicates the materiel at first and then starts to make it simpler closer to when we have the test. The class right before our tests are called Review Days in which our teacher gives us a sample test that looks similar to the actual test (format-wise) and we do the problems and ask him questions along the way. After that, we just study over the concepts. I usually just watch a few Khan Academy videos and some practice problems from the textbook our teacher gave us. I guess doing this, plus a little over-studying because I thought I wasn’t going to do well, got me an A on the test.
