High School Class of 2018

@Marg532 Do you guys have a pep-rally before the game?

Speaking of clubs and activities, I decided to make an organizer of when all my club and activities were. It would be really helpful for anyone who plans to participate in any clubs and activities.

Forensics Clubs: Every Tuesday and Thursday
Book Club: Every Other Tuesday
Track (Shot-put) Conditioning: Wednesdays (Sometimes) and Thursdays
Biotech Club: Every Thursday
Math Honor Society: Every 4th Thursday of Every Month

I might include some more clubs later on, but this is what I got right now. For Math Honor Society, I must tutor people one hour per month for a total of at least 6 hours per year. I picked to tutor people every 4th Thursday of every month. On the days, such as Thanksgiving, where we will not have school, there will be makeup days.

Current Grades:

Spanish 2: 88% - (B+)

I just took a quiz yesterday and got an A, but I guess it brought me down. I’m pretty confident I’ll have an A by the end of the quarter.

Functions/Trigonometry (Pre-Calculus): 91% - (A)

That test I took brought my grade up big time! My teacher divided up our test into sections.

Analyzing Functions: 100%
Composition: 100%
Inverses: 91%
Piecewise: 97%
Transformations: 89%

My grade is going to be higher as my quiz grades will also change because I did well on the test.

Analyzing Functions Quiz: 88% to 100%
Piecewise Functions Quiz: 75% to 97%
Transformations Quiz: 81% to 87%

Engineering Explorations 1/Robotics: 90% - (A)

I remember a couple months ago when I thought this class was going to be an easy blow-off elective. I was wrong! Unlike our old Engineering teacher, our new Engineering teacher actually grades our work and grades it harshly. Our old Engineering teacher basically gave us A’s so long as we tried. In retrospect, that wasn’t probably the best. I feel like I’m actually learning stuff this year, though!

AP English Language and Composition: 100% - (A)
I have an A in this class, but my grade will go down as I haven’t turned in a bunch of stuff.

PLTW Principles of Engineering: 100% - (A)
Since I was absent for one class, in order to attend an Engineering seminar, I’ll have to finish up the lab and get notes that I missed.

U.S. and Virginia History: 99% - (A)
I’m doing very well in this class! My teacher curses a lot! LOL :))

AP Chemistry: 89% - (B+)
My grade is definitely going down in this class. As long as I don’t get under a B, I’m fine!

Also, for those participating in FRC, this year’s game has been announced.

THIS YEAR’S GAME: STEAMWORKS

This year’s game will have a STEAMPUNK theme! I actually love Steampunk, too. I hope this year’s game will be as good as Stronghold.

Here’s the game teaser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37GBEBLfhWA

@ak2018 Yeah, we have a pep rally during school every year, which is always kind of lame unless you’re a senior or you’re in student council. BUUUUT we do have every day of the week be a dress-up theme that everyone dresses up for, with Friday always being Spirit Day where we dress in black and red (our school colors). Everyone goes all out on Friday, but not necessarily on every other day.

Chelsea just got wrecked by arsenal :,-( I thought perhaps Chelsea’s curse from last year was broken.

I literally just thought of a fun idea. I was looking up some stuff about AP courses and thought, “If AP Computer Science exists, why not AP Engineering?”

So I decided to create a list of AP’s I thought would be and hope exist in the future:

I know this is a long list, and pretty much all these AP classes are really college class, but this is what I found interesting. Anything to add? What class would you take, if possible?

Anyone know how to grade the PSAT 2. I know the answers are in the back but where is the “scale” that tells you what you got out of 1520

@ak2018 we watched the teaser video during a robotics meeting. The video itself was lamer than last year, but steam = water so WATER GAME!!

@kassh4 Go to khan academy—click SAT in the Test Prep section on the drop down menu—Full Tests—then in the bottom-ish left hand corner theirs a link for “download PSAT/NMSQT Tests”—scroll down a bit and their is a link with instructions on scoring. It’s really thorough!!

I just scored a 1430 on my first real practice SAT from Khan Academy!!! I’m so happy!!! There’s still a lot of room for improvement though…The estimate for National Merit Scholarship cut off in California is 1470 (for PSAT). I’d really like to score in the 1500s for the PSAT and SAT!!!

Does anyone know if the PSAT is still supposed to omit the questions of higher difficulty that are on the SAT???

Don’t omit. There is no such thing as missing out on points for guessing wrong anymore. And technically, the cutoff for California was a 221 National Merit Index I believe, which can be different scores (could be a 690 M/760R for a 1450 or a 760 M/730R for a 1490) because reading is weighted double when finding NMI.

@snowfairy137 I originally thought that the whole “Take Flight” thing meant that there will be drones allowed this year.

@Soccer1235 For “omit” i meant will the questions of higher difficulty be on the PSAT? I think I read somewhere that for past years’ tests, the PSAT for 11th graders did not include the hardest questions, thus making it slightly easier. Do you know if this is still true with the redesign? Thanks for the clarification for the cut off scores!

@sewin2music They only have the scoring stuff for the first practice test. Im trying to score the second one that i got from my councilor when signing up for the PSAT

@kassh4 Sorry! I thought the 2 was a typo. I was not aware that there was a second practice test for the PSAT and do not know how you would go about scoring it other than using the number you got wrong and applying that the the scoring guide for the first practice test

@ak2018 I would love AP Mythology and AP Medieval Studies, but I hope CollegeBoard doesn’t add so many AP classes. That would make kids overload their schedule with them, which is a problem as it is.

I kind wish I went to school’s football game last night. So many people were there! I was planning on going, but I got so tired after school that I just slept. :frowning: Anyway, I’m pretty excited for our home game next Friday. Our school is having a Blacktop Blowout before the game. It’s kind of like a carnival where every gets to play and we get to showcase the clubs the school offers. It takes place right after school until 6pm and then the football starts at 7pm.

@LeopardFire Sometimes, I feel like the College Board should make it so that you can’t take more than 5 AP classes a year (An AP Science, AP Math, AP Social Studies, AP English, and an AP Elective). This would stop people from taking so many. AP classes are good to take, but too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing!

@ak2018 I dont necessarily agree. If you are poor and you family can’t afford college you can take a lot of APs and save thousands of dollars. If you think you can handle x amount of APs why not take it.
