High School Class of 2018

@snowfairy137 yes you definitely did help. I will probably only take one class so it is more manageable and will look into my options for spring semester!

I will be taking financial accounting at my local community college most likely next year

@BucketsUCSC He does usually tend to challenge himself, but only in the engineering classes. In math class, he won’t even really do the practice worksheets, which leads him to ask me two or three questions about what we did last class. The only thing that seems challenging to him is AP Euro. Other than that, he just sits there and read while the teacher is giving his or her lecture. Personally, I wish I was able to do this, but I feel like it’s probably going to hurt him in the long run.

@ak2018 I think it’s going to bit him in the bum when he gets to college.

Grade Update:

Spanish 2 - 89% - B+
I’m really pissed because I was so close to A, but my teacher told me I can’t make up anything for that extra 1%. Oh well, guess I’ll have to take the final. 8-|

Functions/Trigonometry - 90% - A
I retook my Unit 2 Test which brought my grade up by a lot.

Engineering Explorations/Robotics - (86% - B) (Should be 91% - A)
Once my teacher puts in my Exploded CADD IPN file as a grade, I’ll have an A.

AP English Language and Composition - 88% - B+
I’m redo three of my assignments to get an A.

PLTW Principles of Engineering - 96% - A
I have a few things to turn in to make sure it stays that way!

U.S. and Virginia History - 97% - A
Very Easy Class!

AP Chemistry - 80% - B
So my teacher told me I did really well on the Big Idea 1 Test, which means my grade will likely go up!

The 1st grading period ends on Thursday for me.

I also realized that I have a 5-day weekend starting Friday. I won’t be going to school on Friday, but I kind of have to because of an FRC meeting.

@frazzledrazzle Yeah I’m pretty sure.

@ak2018 The quarter closes November 10th for me, I think. Ughhh I’m not ready

My Grades:

Pre-Calculus - 78% - C+
There is going to be a quiz Friday and an extra credit assignment, so I should be able to bump this to a B-.

Financial Literacy - 96% - A

Honors Latin III - 96.749% - A
I’m so close to an A+ ;-;

Intro to Marketing - 92.7% - A
I forgot to do an assignment that dropped my grade several points, but thankfully this teacher rounds up decimals, so I still have an A.

AP Lang - 93.8% - A
This is fantastic, but I’m paranoid that my timed writing will drop this quite a bit. Hoping for an A-…

APUSH - 87.08% - B+
This is actually better than I thought it would be. I’m hoping to make an A next quarter!

Chemistry - 87+ - B+
I have several grades and make-ups that should make this an A-.

Gym - 95% - A

@LeopardFire I’m honestly not ready either. The 2nd quarter is usually my worst quarter, due to all of the snow days.

So I’ve got some great news:

I talked to my school’s math director and he said there is a possibility that may be able to take AP Calculus BC next year instead of AB. However, since I’m currently in Functions/Trigonometry, I will need to fill in the gaps required to be successful in Calc BC. The math director said that if I have an A for the semester, then he’ll give me extra worksheets throughout the 2nd semester in order to make sure I’m prepared. So it would be like having an unofficial 8th class.

For those in AP Calc BC, or have taken it, any advice?

@ak2018 I had a great teacher for Calc BC (got a 5), he’s literally had no one fail the AP test after having him. I would recommend making sure you understand the bigger picture of how concepts are connected because it makes remembering stuff a lot easier. For AP test prep do a bunch of released FRQs, grade your work using the answer key, figure out what you did wrong, and if do really bad, try the same question again a couple weeks later. You’ll start to see patterns and huge improvements in your scores (I went from like 3-4 average to like 8-9 average over the course of a month). Also, series are the worst, so good luck!

Can we stop posting grades on this thread? I’ve never seen the point when all our schools have different grading scales and school cultures. I was fine with it before, but more and more of our posts revolve solely around numerical grades.

@ak2018 I took Calc AB the first half of last year, and then Calc BC the second semester because my new school has no AB. There is no difference between the two except that BC goes faster and has a few extra things at the end, so the beginning of both will be similar. The teacher may assume that you know AB before his/her class, but the curriculum of the beginning is very similar.

My first marking period ends next Thursday, before Veterans Day. I’m a bit worried about my AP Lit grade, but it should be fine. I’m kind of worried about my APUSH grade getting lowered because of the unit test that I took today, but I will probably be fine. I’ve always just been super anxious about grades lower than a 90. I’m a bit freaked haha

Hey guys! It’s been a while.

Junior year has been crazy, and my math class is a disaster…

I hope everything is going well for you all!

Mid-term report cards at my school are coming out next week! Excited to see the same grades that are on my PowerSchool, but on paper :open_mouth:

Not to bring up politics again, but aren’t yall scared that Trump may (and most likely will) win the election, and become the next president of the United States of America. It’s kinda of scary :frowning: ~X( 8-X

@Tobster18 yeeeaah, he’s definitely not going to win, short of major upsets in battleground states that he has no feasible chance in winning.
Say Trump does take home Florida and Ohio (as well as Arizona and Utah). This would still put him at 26 votes short of 270, while Clinton has a solid 294 right now. Even if Trump were to upset North Carolina, he would still fall short of 270. He would have to get those remaining electoral votes from NH, Michigan, Pennsylvania, etc. and he clearly won’t, according to polls.
No need to fear. Obviously not an invitation to slack off in efforts to elect Clinton, but don’t let the cloud hang over your head, especially during junior year!

Very true, his road to victory is slim but the thing you have to factor in is that Democrats are known for low voter turnouts in comparison to Republicans (even though early voting puts democrats with the edge). Donald Trump’s base has been polled to be more enthusiastic than Clinton’s and according to Real Clear Politics which take into account all of polls, he is only one state away from winning. Plus the stock markets which has accurately predicted every presidential election since world war two predicts a trump win,as well as professor who developed a election prediction strategy which has been right for the past 32 years So…trump may actually win, even though it looks unlikely. But like you said, I definitely don’t need to worry about this my junior year. America is screwed either way.

@ak2018 I got the Barron’s book for AP Calculus to fill in the gaps from my Calc Lvl. 1 class. We use the AP Calc AB textbook. I don’t want to learn the same things over again next year (plus the teacher is horrible). Anyway, more schools accept the BC test and give more credit for it than the AB test. It also would be good because I would be learning more things (and have a teacher that doesn’t make so many mistakes!). I’m going to talk to my math teacher about it at Parent/Teacher Conferences in a few weeks. I think I would have to learn the rest of the material that’s not covered in my class but is in the AP Calc AB class and take a test at the end of August.

@Wolfgangbread The chances of Trump getting NH are slim. NH and southern ME are very democratic.
