High School Class of 2018

@snowfairy137 what is your team number?

@snowfairy137 We actually had an off-season competition for FRC back in October. I couldn’t go though, since I didn’t have a ride. It was called IROC. We would send up last year’s robot to compete in a fun little rematch based on last year’s game theme, which was Stronghold. It’s kind of way for new members to gain experience and to prepare for the season. Since I was able to be there, I got to view the whole thing on LiveStream. It was definitely a thrilling event.

@18college1111 My team number is 2068 in the Chesapeake District.

So Friday, I spent most of the day getting everything set up for an FLL tournament that happened on Saturday. I also have an offseason duty to create sponsorships with local companies.

I ALMOST FORGOT…TRACK SEASON STARTS ON WEDNESDAY! :smiley:

@18college1111 @ak2018 my team number is 2944 (Pacific Northwest District ftw!). And our competition is called robot rewind and its a Stronghold game too! Our drivers graduated so we’re going to have everyone practice driving at this competition so we probably wont do very well but that’s ok lol. Also, isn’t it a little early for FLL competitions?

@snowfairy137 I guess not.

Instead of doing the outline for my satire sermon, I started watching Steven Universe conspiracy theories instead. Why do I do this to myself?

My dad suggested that I apply to this summer camp at CERN that’s free but I really want to get into YSPA. I guess I could apply to both but they’re at the same time. This sucks!! :(( :(( :(( :(( :((

“Choose a discipline you love and you’ll never work a day in your life likely because that field isn’t hiring.”

@neptuna True

Okay so I need help making a decision!

I’m pretty sure I did jinx myself for the VASTS program because I signed up for both the VASTS and the VESSS program. I e-mailed the VASTS program coordinator and he said that I still needed to make a choice about the program I wanted to be in, VASTS or VESSS. I replied that I choose VASTS and I asked if there was a way I could rescind my VESSS application. He said there wasn’t, as the application deadline has already passed, and that since they need more people in the VESSS program, and I, lucky for them, applied for both programs, that he is longer considering me for VASTS, and I will only be considered for VESSS. I replied asking if this was true and I have not received a response. I personally think this is really unfair that just because they need more people for VESSS, they are considering me more for that program just because I showed enough interest to apply to VESSS.Don’t get me wrong, I think the program is okay, but it’s not exactly my first choice. I’m pretty sure they did this to a lot of other people, because there are 28 less people that applied to the VASTS program than before.

So, at this point, I have to come to terms with the reality that I won’t get into VASTS. However, I’m still trying to weigh my options. Until the program coordinator replies to my e-mail, likely tomorrow, all hope is not lost. This whole ordeal, however, has made me realize that if I’m still considered for VASTS, somehow, I’ll have a choice to make, VASTS or VESSS. I decided to make a comparison chart.

VASTS

  • Would recieve 2 college credits for MECH 100 - Intro to Aerospace Engineering Technology (If I get no less than a C)
  • Would have a lower chance of attending the VASTS summer academy (Would need to be in the top 39% to get in)
  • If I attend the summer academy, I will know more about aerospace science and technology, which very much interests me and would recieve 2 more college credits.
  • Only for 1th graders.

VESSS

  • Would recieve 3 colege credits for Geological Studies (If I get no less than a C)
  • Would have a higher chance of getting into the VESSS summer academy (Would need to be in the top 92% to get in)
  • If I attend the summer academy, I will learn more about the earth, nature, and sustainabilty, which seems kind of interesting and would recieve one more college credit
  • For 11th and 12th graders.

I kind of feel like I should more appreciative that an oppurtunity like this even came my way, but I’m definitely going to try and see what it brings.

So, do you guys think I should even do the VESSS, even though I’m planning on going into engineering.

@Hamlon Yep, it was a Google Classroom thing. All of my teachers were forced to make one this year, though the only ones who really use them regularly are my Chem and Latin teachers.

Steven Universe is a top priority of mine, so I feel you. Writing a sarcastic sermon sounds fun too, though! :0

@neptuna tfw you aren’t going to STEM :’)

@ak2018 That seems really unfair. Is there anyone else you could contact about this? Is there anyone else who runs the VASTS program, or someone who is involved in running these types of programs in general?

@ak2018 That does sound extremely unfair… I’m sorry that that’s happening. Hope you figure out a way to get considered more highly for the one that you want.

Sooo I’m doing my APUSH homework while watching the votes roll in live on the Yahoo! thing that’s happening. High key anxious about this haha

@LeopardFire @Marg532 I e-mailed the program coordinator and hoped he’s not actually doing it. I don’t even know if he has that kind of power to do that.

Honestly, the minute this whole election ends, I’m going to try my best to pretend it never happened! :)) I just hope things can settle down soon. The next few days at school aren’t going to be the best socially, but we’ll all pull through! At the very least, we’ll be able to tell our kids we survived one of the most anxiety-ridden presidential elections as 16 and 17-year-olds! Hopefully, this will be the only election of its kind

Also, quick question. I was helping this kid on R-e-dd-it and I told him that when it comes to ECs, it’s really quality over quantity. What do you guys think?

Yo is Reddit filtered out

@awesomepolyglot I thought it was! Guess no!!

@ak2018 I think quality over quantity is true.

Well, the anxiety’s getting to me. I’m going to bed! Peace out!

@ak2018 I have an AP Lang vocab test tomorrow that I feel fine about, and a Chem test that covers the entire first quarter on Thursday, which will be death. I haven’t really prepared for the latter at all, so studying isn’t going to be fun. ;~;

I only did about half of the APUSH notes that I wanted to do last night because I went to bed due to /anxietyyyyyy/ haha but I guess I will just do both the rest of the notes and the chapter packet tonight. But in my study hall 2nd period, I reeeeally need to finish reading The Chalk Garden (a play we were supposed to be reading in AP LIt) because we are most likely doing an in-class essay on it and some articles that I also haven’t read haha
Is there such thing as junioritis? Because if there is then I definitely have it :))
