I thought I did so well on my SAT (practice test), but I got an 1100! I don’t get it, I am an above avg math student (560) and a mediocre reader(540)!!! It was a Kaplan test… You think the score would be different on a college board test?
@apple1893 only way to know is to take a real SAT practice test
Cellular respiration may just kill me.
We get days off for our parent-teacher conferences! I can’t imagine not having them. I always thought it was standard.
Only K-8 has parent-teacher conferences for us :((
We have a night for conferences where all the teachers stay till like 8 o’clock and parent can go and have 10 minute conferences with any teachers they want to.
Anyone else going to MIT Splash? I am super excited!
@apple1893 I just checked it out, it looks really cool. Hope you have fun!
@neptuna I literally hate how it took me 5 minutes to understand that pun you made! :))
I get to visit Rice, University of Houston, and Texas A&M this week! Super excited because I didn’t think I’d be able to do college visits so soon, but my school offered the trip to Juniors/Seniors. I’m going for free.
Rice is a Questbridge school, so I’ve been thinking about going there. I’m not sold on the fact that it’s so close to my house(4 hours away). I know up North that could be multiple states away from home, but here you can drive for over 13 hours (not exaggerating) and still be in Texas.
Since this point of the year tends to be where a lot of students, at least I, start to get disorganized. So, I’m, finally, using my phone’s calendar/agenda app to keep on things. I’m pretty excited about this week because a lot of things will be happening towards the end of it. Here’s a look at my week this week:
Monday:
- Safety Quiz Class Retake in Engineering Explorations 1/Robotics
Tuesday:
- GMU’s Aspiring Young Scientists Internship Program (AYSIP) Online Application Opens
- Clubs and Other Activities - (2:15pm - 3:15pm)
- Track Practice (3:15pm - 4:30pm)
Wednesday
- AP Chemistry Lab Due Date
- Academic Awards Ceremony (7:30pm - 9pm)
Thursday:
- Spanish 2 Quiz
- Functions/Trigonometry Unit 4 Test
- AP Lang Vocab Test
- Clubs and Other Activities - (2:15pm - 3:15pm)
- Track Practice (3:15pm - 4:30pm)
Friday:
- Notification of Conditional Acceptance or Rejection from VESSS will be received (on or before Friday)
@singingwriting Welcome back!
@Hamlon Thank you, glad to be back! I should really be studying for APUSH though…
For anyone who wants it. here are the AP score distributions from May 2016: https://secure-media.collegeboard.org/digitalServices/pdf/research/2016/Student-Score-Distributions-2016.pdf
With citing references, does anyone have any classes that require these outside of English? I’m doing all of these lab reports in Chemistry 11 and citing is optional, and that’s the same trend in all of the other sciences I’m taking next semester.
i have been procrastinating for four hours…what is life
@Hamlon I’m in Washington which isn’t seriously huge but the closest school I’m seriously considering is the University of Washington which 5 hours away lol. Everything else is plane material. You don’t have to worry about weather that much in Texas, but it can potential become a problem for me bc to get to U of WA and home I have to cross the Rocky Mountains… which are snowy and the pass can be closed.
@snowfairy137 Houston/Austin tend to biblically flood in the Spring. I’m safe from most of that, but it’s an issue the closer you get to the gulf. Sucks because a lot of the good schools are down in that region. I’m really glad I don’t have to pass through a mountain range to get home though. I hate being on the roads in icy conditions.
@BucketsUCSC The conferences are only ten minutes long, and are on a first-come, first-serve basis. They don’t cause much of a disturbance or anything, so I don’t see any
@Hamlon @snowfairy137 I think 4 hours away would be my maximum… Luckily I live in New England, so I’m surrounded by a ton of great schools. If I were to go far away, I don’t think I would be able to afford the plane tickets to visit my family more than once or twice a year, if at all. :s
@LeopardFire my dad has to travel a lot for work (like at one point he was going to france every month), so he’s got a lot of airmiles saved up. My mom also got a credit card that will give you points you can use on airfare. I still probably would only come home for like winter and spring break though lol.
I wish I knew about MIT Splash earlier because I would have applied! That sounds so cool! :(( :(( :((
@LeopardFire I’m happy I live in New England as well! My family and I are going to go on this college visit road trip next spring to visit Yale, Brown, Harvard, BU, Dartmouth, and McGill. I’m so happy I live in this great region and that there are so many good schools here!
@BucketsUCSC My school has parent/teacher conferences that are 15 minutes long. Teachers don’t expect students to come to the meetings, but they like it. I always go with my mom. They’re first-come, first-serve like at @LeopardFire’s school.
