High School Class of 2018

So today went pretty well. I got a 100 on my quiz in my Engineering class and I’m actually comprehending AP Chem. Also, we finally moved from Mechanisms to Energy Sources in POE.

I also checked about the VESSS program and the 4 credits I would be earning would be earning are for a Physical Geology class that would transfer to almost any university I choose. I asked some of my teachers and my counselor about it, and they said to definitely take the class even though it’s not in my area of choice and as long as I enjoy it.

Also, do you guys think I should join National Honor Society? I’ve talked to my friends who are in it and they said it’s pretty cool and that they’re actually doing things this year, as in being more organized. The only downside to this is that I feel I’m already in a lot of clubs already. I’m formally in: Book Club, Biotechnology Club, FRC Team, Forensics Club, Math Honor Society, and the track team. What do you guys think?

You guys I finally found a real safety school! It’s called the New York Institute of Technology in the city of New York, so I can still live in New York even if I don’t get into NYU. The average GPA is a 3.25 and the average ACT is a 25, so I exceed their averages by a lot. This really takes a lot of stress off!

@ak2018 I don’t think it would hurt to join, unless you think it might get in the way of all your other clubs. If you can keep up with the demands, I think you should join.

@droporain Thanks!

@nyuhopeful44 Good for you! Have you been researching about the school for a while?

Procrastination is real tonight ughh. I need to write like a bunch of essay (yes singular essay but a bunch of it… I promise I’m good at grammar) and finish a confusing chem lab. Instead I’m watching youtube and snapchatting my crush.

@snowfairy137 I also have a pretty confusing lab here. Aren’t labs just such a pain to write up? My lab is due Wednesday and I literally have so much to figure out.

@snowfairy137 I have a lab due Thursday. It’s not so bad, it’s just that my classmates seem to not realize that they need to post ALL of their data (and CORRECT data) for the data/results/conclusion/entire purpose of the lab to work. Yes I am a bit salty, but seriously!? How hard is it?

@ak2018 YEa for some reason my college doesn’t expect us to do lab write ups?? just the questions and stuff in the lab packet (I’m not complaining lol) but my teacher doesn’t like answering questions clearly.
@sewin2music ugh I feel. Freshman year my physics class consisted of 1 giant super involved lab every quarter and although I like the lab part, working with my groups sucked. I often ended up doing way too much of the work.

tfw you’re really struggling in AP Comp Sci and your teacher barely wants to give you the time of day:)

I just got my MP1 grades back, and I’m very happy with the results :stuck_out_tongue: I’m not going to post the grades, because we’ve seemed to get past the whole comparing grades thing on this thread, but I’m super happy about them. Now to focus on keeping up the good work so I don’t go anywhere.
Currently getting ahead (kind of?) in AP Lit by doing grading booklets that are due at the end of the marking period. Then again, the due date for everything in that class is at the end of the marking period haha.

Today’s been pretty good so far. I didn’t do quite as well as I hoped on my chem test, but I still got a pretty good grade… And my chem teacher didn’t put my lab that I turned in at the end of class instead of the beginning in as a zero like he said he would so that made me really happy. I also drafted my final english paper out and I’m feeling a lot better about it. Plus, I got free ice cream! Overall, its been good. I’m glad to know my chemistry teacher has a soul.

OMG GUYS I’M LITERALLY IN SHOCK RIGHT NOW! I’ve have just been selected for two GMU summer programs! :smiley: :smiley: :smiley:

I literally just got home and saw that my dad left some mail for me in my room. The mail was from George Mason University. I opened one of the envelopes to find an acceptance letter to the Washington Youth Summit on the Environment this summer! I read the letter and I literally yelled “Wow!”. I opened the second envelope and saw an acceptance letter for the Washington Journalism and Media Conference. I’m legit crying right now! :(( :smiley:

I just reread both letters to look over the specifics.

I honestly can’t believe my luck! Apparently I was selected for both programs based on my academic excellence and interest in environmental science.

Also, only 49 other students were selected the program. One student from each state. This means that I’ve been selected twice for both programs and will be representing Virginia under the esteemed title “National Youth Delegate”! I’ll be meeting with leaders on Capitol Hill as well as going all around DC. I honestly am still speechless that this is happening to me.

It doesn’t just stop there. At the end of both one-week programs, I will receive transferable one college credit each. This is honestly the luckiest I’ve ever been in my life! :((

I’ll post up the acceptance letters on my old Twitter so you guys can see them!

@ak2018 That’s so cool!

@ak2018 I got the same one from GMU for the environment one! I read online that it’s a kind of scam though. Not really a scam, but they use the wording they do to make you feel special when in reality, they send it to a lot of kids who signed up to take the PSAT and put their mailing address. So you pay the money to go and they make profit. It’s not necessarily a scam, but it doesn’t really add anything to your resume. It probably is a good experience though.
Heres more info http://wyse.gmu.edu/FAQs/ . They let in 250 students which means it’s more than one per state, but the wording they used in the paper makes it seem like that.

Is anyone applying for any summer programs? I’m applying for the LEDA Summer Program at Princeton and I’m going to ask for a teacher recommendation before thanksgiving break next week. That’s the scariest part of the application because I don’t know which one to ask. :)) What if I ask a teacher who doesn’t think highly of me? I don’t know; the whole thing makes me feel sick to my stomach.

@ak2018 I got the journalism one!

@FunnyKiwi what??
