High School Class of 2018

@ak2018 I love Mars! There’s a video on YouTube called “Before Mars” that’s about Hana and Joon in 2016.

@ak2018 Some part of me hopes we don’t get to Mars in the event that there are very simple organisms/biomolecules somewhere on the planet. I know it’s unlikely that there’s life on Mars. I just feel like humans have already done more than enough harm to our own planet.

@Hamlon I could see that. I honestly think that there likely is life on Mars in the form of bacteria, probably from the rovers and parts we’ve sent there.

But yeah, I’m pretty sure at this point, the plan is to ditch Earth the minute everything is gone and do it all over again on another planet, rather than trying to save the planet we’ve got.

@Hamlon I would like to think if we ever get to Mars, we will have learned from our mistakes. Not to mention that we don’t know how life on that planet would end up treating it in the long-run anyways. They could end up just as bad as us. :stuck_out_tongue:

So, today wasn’t the best day. We are selling hats for my Entrepreneurship class. Everyone has to buy one, so I wasted $10 on that. I’m also pretty sure I messed up badly on my APUSH test. My teacher had told my mom during their conference that he thought I would be able to get an A this quarter, so now I feel like I’m disappointing three people instead of just myself. ;-;

On the bright side, I got a 91 on my Pre-Calc test! Its a solid start for me.

I got into the Washington Aerospace Scholars online class! It starts tomorrow, so excited!

@snowfairy137 Congrats!

I havent taken any AP exams yet as they do not offer them in myschool but i wll be going out of myschool to take them this year. I also havent done my SAT yet. I am stressing. How about you?

Thanks for the advice!! How was the AP Bio exam, what book did you use to study and how did you end up doing. Lol sorry for all the questions, it’s just that not many people in my Toronto school know what to do to get to US schools I am going to take the AP Chem exam this May hopefully too.

@frazzledazzle ^^

I have a crush. Why did the universe have to do this to me.

Hey Guys!!! Hope all is well. Just reactivated my account and I need to catch up with all of you. What is everyone up to? Calc AB teacher is kicking my ass, practically self teaching myself with YouTube. AP Bio is a piece of cake, so is English, Environmental, and Psych, but that’s because they are all the easy AP’s. Really stressed out with finals coming up in a couple of weeks though :frowning:

@MberihYm I took the AP Gov exam last year, and this year I will be taking the APUSH and AP Lang exams. I recommend buying a review book for the AP classes/tests your taking, to use throughout the year. Crash Course, a YouTube channel, is also very helpful for last minute studying. I haven’t taken the SAT yet either, my first (and last, if all goes well) attempt will be in March, when my school pays for it. Did you take the PSAT?

@MatthewW12 Good luck! I usually wouldn’t group AP Lang with the easy AP’s, but I have actually found it much easier than H English 9 and 10. Has it been that way for you too?

So, as part of my synagogue internship, I’m going to research the history of my congregation, and write something for our website! I think its going to be quite neat. My rabbi told me that my synagogue was one of the first to have a lesbian rabbi, which I think is awesome! What I love about Reform Judaism is how socially progressive it is.

So you guys remember the APUSH assignment I handed in 7 minutes after the midnight deadline and thought he’d be fine about? Well he is counting it late, which I get, but he won’t tell me what he’s doing about it, which I’m kinda freaking out about. I asked him how many points he was going to take off of it for being late and he sarcastically said a million >.< I’m hoping for the best, that he will only take one or two points off. I mean, it was literally 7 minutes after the deadline, and my first offence with ANYTHING in that class. Or anything in my 8th grade history class I had with him, either. But he could be a giant jerk and count it as a 0, which would suck.

Do you guys have any tips help to avoid writing a cheesy essay?

@aspiringgirl is this a more informal, personal assignment or a literary analysis type thing?

It’s an essay about leadership for a summer program.

@aspiringgirl I would recommend showing your experiences as a leader rather than simply stating qualities that you have. Like instead of saying that you’re responsible, you can try writing about a time when you demonstrated responsibility and reliability. I read somewhere that admissions like those kinds of essays.

Happy thanksgiving everyone! I ate wayy too much pie ugh.

I ate too much stuffing AND stole the very last piece of pie after everyone else had their piece haha I had 2 pieces when everyone else had 1 xD

Hope everyone had a really nice Thanksgiving! I’m definitely stuffed! :))

So at Thanksgiving dinner, I was talking to one of my cousins, who is a senior this year, and he had said that the college app process has “sucked the life” out of him. Really can’t wait to experience this in a year! :))

Also, I’m literally just realizing that we’ll be filling out our college apps in less than year! I don’t know whether to be excited or scared! :)) Because off this, I’m finally thinking about starting a “college app” resume so that once that time comes around, I’ll just copy and paste all of the info into my college apps. I’ll have to update it regularly as well. I encourage all of you to do the same! You can search “college application resume template” on Google to find some great ones to use! :smiley:

Also, I know that we won’t be applying for scholarships for a while, but that doesn’t mean we can’t apply as high school juniors. Here is a link to 26 college scholarships that juniors may apply to: http://collegeapps.about.com/od/grantsandscholarships/tp/College-Scholarships-Open-to-High-School-Juniors.htm
(You’re welcome!)
I believe Questbridge was on the list! If you have the time, definitely check them out!
