High School Class of 2018

I need some advice on managing AP Computer Science. First thing’s first, my teacher doesn’t actually teach. Nothing I can do about that. I’m so confused about everything and one program can take me two days. I got a C on my last exam and I feel like I’m just going downhill from there. I try so hard just to figure out each program that I don’t actually soak in any information. I just don’t understand how anything works. Are there any resources I can take advantage of?

@ak2018 For me, it would be 4 > 3 = 2 > 5 > 1
4 would be my first choice, because I love writing about ethical dilemmas. I think I could actually have fun with that. On the other hand, 1 and 5 would require me to write about my accomplishments, which I have little to speak of. :stuck_out_tongue:

@Hamlon I actually checked the schools I’m looking at for waivers and most do give waivers, but mainly for those who already have College Board Fee Waivers, which I don’t qualify for due to my parent’s income. GMU actually gives out quite a bit of waiver options for a lot of programs, but I still don’t qualify. I’ll definitely keep looking though.

One more weird thing I found, VCU’s application fee went up $15-$25 this year. Last year, it was apparently $40, for in-the-country applicants, and $50 for international applicants.

@neptuna Isn’t most of the AP Computer Science curriculum Java-based? I would think you could probably go on YouTube on look up some Java tutorials. I was planning on doing AP Computer Science A next year, so I was going to brush up on my Java later. I’ve already learned quite a bit.

@neptuna Barron’s($$), Litvin’s($$), Codingbat, Blue Pelican Java, and Edhesive saved me in that class. I used Barron’s to tutor myself, Litvin’s to get proficient at AP exam questions, and the rest for extra practice.

@ak2018 I use YouTube sometimes, but my problem with it is that most of the tutorials aren’t very AP centered.
@Hamlon I just placed an order for Barron’s. Thanks for the suggestions!

By the way, Amazon is giving you $10 off any $25 book purchase if you use the code HOLIDAYBOOK. If you’re going to buy study guides for AP exams, it would be best to do it now.

@neptuna lol i just two more prep books yesterday using that code.

@neptuna if you have any questions about Comp-Sci just pm me. I got a 5 on the exam.

@neptuna I’ve been putting off buying a College Panda SAT study guide because they are all slightly overpriced. I might be able to convince my dad to let me purchase the math workbook in time for Winter break. Has anyone bought any of the CP books? I’m not 100% sure about the material.

@neptuna Is the discount valid if I buy a prep books that add up to >$25?

So I was starting to think about all of the college organizations that I can join once I get into college, which leads me to a great question. If your college workload isn’t too much, do you plan on getting a job or participating in student organizations? What student organizations would you want to join?

I feel like I would want to do some of the activities I wasn’t able to do in high school. I would join a dance team, the college choir, and maybe a black student organization. There are probably so many that I wouldn’t be able to join every one I liked.

Also, so you want to join a sorority/faternity? Personally I wouldn’t.

@apple1893 I worded that badly. Yes, that’ll work. “Excludes eBooks and Audiobooks, Book Rentals and Amazon Gift Cards,” “only applies to products sold and shipped by Amazon.com,” and ends at 3AM EST.

@neptuna Ok cool.

HERE IS MY BOOK HAUL lol:
SAT Princeton Review chem
Barrons Math Level 2

SNHC anyone?? :((
I’ve got a presentation to work on and practice, math homework, and finals and tests coming up in the next week or so. But, I spent all day working on my aerospace class instead because I’ve clearly got my priorities straight… (also it was more exciting)

I got:

Barron’s AP Biology, 5th Edition
Barron’s AP Statistics, 8th Edition
Princeton Review AP English Language & Composition, 2017 Edition
Barron’s AP Computer Science A, 7th Edition

I did the math and really only saved like $4 lol.

And yeah, I’m SNHC af tonight. Poli Sci quiz and paper, reading and a practice test for AP Bio, AP English, and AP Computer Science. I’ll probably not finish it all tonight, but I’m going to be scrambling tomorrow.

@ak2018 I will have no choice but to work through college somehow, because I am paying for it all by myself, with no help from parents. So unless I get a full ride somewhere, or enough scholarships to make college super super affordable, I will need to work part time all year round to pay for college. Also, I plan on joining a few clubs, although most are similar to ones I do in high school, like an a capella group and a GSA. However, I don’t plan on joining a sorority primarily because of previously stated money issues, as well as the fact that I don’t see myself as the sorority “type”

@snowfairy137 I had myself a SNHC where I did my Chapter 11 packet for APUSH, and earlier today before work I wrote out my composition for Music Theory. But I’m all done now, thanks to having Thanksgiving break since Wednesday.

I am joining… Just a french quiz to study for and an article to read

I’m joining have cornell notes due all my friends realized today that it was due Monday RIP

I’m overwhelmed rn bc I had a family emergency and had to miss 2.5 days which apparently was enough to be drowning in tests and new material

I got the Sterling Test Prep for AP Chem and the No-Bull APUSH review.

So now my prep book collection consists of Princeton review 2017 AP Chem and APUSH, Cliffsnote AP Bio, and Sterling Test Prep for AP Chem and the No-Bull APUSH.

Im prob just gonna donate all these books to my teachers after this year.

Wow! Page 600! Let’s get to 1000 before the end of the year lol.
