High School Class of 2018

i think we will get to 630 by the end of the year. Lets make predictions see who gets the closest

675!

Guys I’m literally shook!

So I was watching one of Shane Dawson’s conspiracy theories and he was talking about Google and Amazon Echo and how they are being used like the telescreens in 1984 to monitor us and get inside our heads.

I only got my AP Bio reading and half of my AP Comp Sci work done. It turns out my AP Bio practice test is graded and I haven’t studied yet, and the AP English thing is going to take about an hour. RIP. It’s 1am but I’m going to try to finish my Poli Sci quiz and paper before 2:30. I just don’t know how I’m going to get everything done tomorrow when I have class in the evening.

@apple1893 Lemme know how Princteon Review works out for you! I ended up choosing Barron’s for Chem, too. @-)

@MberihYm Sorry for answering your questions so late! The exam itself wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. There’s a lot of hype. I used the Barron’s book, latest edition to study. I was stupid and only studied the weekend before the exam, so I ended up getting a 3. My biggest tip of advice is to study. AP Bio is a lot of memorization. Go over the material and go over it often.

@averagebean Same!

@ak2018 I plan on talking to my Guidance Counselor to see if I can get fee waivers. It costs way too much to apply for college! I’m trying to narrow down my list to 8 schools. Hopefully I can swing going on a road trip to all of the schools in New England this spring so I can narrow it down that way.

The YSPA application opens Thursday! I can’t wait to apply!

My mom finally allowed me to take the astronomy class at the local university! I turned in the application last Tuesday.

Anyone else nervous for when PSAT scores come out on the 12th? I sure am.

Have any of you guys visited Case Western Reserve University? Is it a good school? My Guidance Counselor suggested I look into the school.

Found one fee waver type thing today! I’m taking classes at a college and plan on applying there as my safety school and apparently high school seniors in my program can just walk in, apply, and get accepted on a certain day and I don’t think it costs anything!

The anxiety is real right now. There was a shooting at OSU and although I don’t go to main campus, I’m still kinda scared to go to class today. And I’m planning on asking for this guy’s number today. aaaaa ~:>

@ak2018 I love Shane Dawson!!! Those videos are my fav lol
@frazzledazzle what YSPA?

@neptuna If it makes you feel better, after a shooting the security’s probably more high alert so it might actually be safer. Also, good luck with the guy’s number!!

@neonerudite The Yale Summer Program in Astrophysics!

@neptuna Good luck, and be careful!

So… I had a pretty bad day. The majority of it went alright, until AP Lang, when I found out I got a C-… I went to a social worker / counselor person at my school and stayed there to cry for the rest of the day. I wish I was exaggerating. Writing is the one thing I actually pride myself on, and of course I had to go and screw things up. There was a real possibility of me getting an A this semester, but now I’m starting off quarter two with a C-, so I guess I can give up on that. :\ I’m just so disappointed in myself. Not only was the essay crap, I also managed to miss that we needed an additional source from the ones provided. Maybe I could have at least gotten a C+ or B-. To make things even more pathetic, I had been researching colleges with professional writing programs (Miami and Purdue seem like good options, if anyone else is interested) throughout the day.

Who else is counting the days until winter break? I have four weeks of school to go. :stuck_out_tongue:

@LeopardFire ooh that’s rough. Depending on the kind of writing you want to do (ie. creative writing) AP Lang might not be the best indicator of your future success. There’s also still time to get your grade up, don’t give up!
As for winter break, I’m so ready. I’ve got 1 and 1/2 weeks till it pretty much starts for me but that means I get to study for finals over my birthday weekend :(.

I GOT THE GUY’S NUMBER

I’ve been playing soccer for 5 years, have given it my all and thought maybe this would be the year I FINALLY get some type of award for the sport I love (I have awards in Basketball and Track)… I scored majority of the goals, got athlete of the week, and was high spirited even when we were losing. My mom told me that I will not be getting one (parents get emails about whether or not their child will receive a plaque before the ceremony). I walked to my room calmly, sat at my desk, and stared at my wall for 10 minutes repeating to myself that an award does not reflect me as a player. That was one hour ago, and still have no progress on homework.

@LeopardFire There’s always that one paper, that one teacher, that one darn elective that gets you down.
A C- not the end, and it’s not representative of your writing as a whole (as HS essays rarely are)!
If you keep writing then you may see, after a (startlingly short) spell, that you’re back on your A-game (or B-game, or what have you).

Personal anecdote: I screwed up an exam this semester in calculus, my favorite subject. As a hopeful math major that was terrifying(!!!), a huge blow to my pride, and a grade-muncher. Yet here I am, back at it and finishing the class with regained confidence in my maths!

Perhaps this isn’t so impressive a turnabout- seeing how I left an entire page blank by accident(!) and all- yet your grade fell for similar reasons.

Good luck, yo!

@neptuna THATS GREAT!! PROUD OF YOU!

Hey guys! Its been a brick since I’ve said anything on here. Today has been a very…interesting? day. My first two periods of school (Calc and Study Hall) were alright, but the second half of my B-days are atrocious. I had to deal with my petty AP Lang teacher who I’ve had for two straight years (AAAHHHHH!!!). Also, I had an AP Physics 1 test on Dynamics with a focus on centripetal acceleration, at-wood machines, and universal gravitation. I think that I did alright on it. It just was horrible because I spent all last week on Sunday night studying for it when my teacher tells my B-day class that he actually moved the test to the day after break because of his A-day classes; however, they should be ahead of us and take it first anyways!!! In the end, no matter what day I took it, I was gonna take a mean, fat L anyways. On the other hand, I successfully binge watched Luke Cage in three days (Sat-Mon), and I think its the best Netflix Marvel show between Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and it.

@apple1893 you sound as though you actually deserve a plaque, don’t worry about it! You seem like an awesome soccer player (I wish I could say the same; got cut from my new school team even though I would have made Varsity at my old school; apparently politics is involved :/) and I’m sure you’ll get an award next year; it would be insane of them to deny you again if you continue the good work.

Electrostatics is killing me in physics. Most of this means nothing to me.

And, in unrelated note, I cannot imagine not having block scheduling. I get restless in following the same routine of just going to school. I couldn’t imagine going to the same exact classes everyday.
