@neptuna thanks for your advice with my schedule. I think your schedule looks good and you have a good amount of APs. Does your school offer AP Bio?
@mirandaf No problem! I’m actually taking AP Bio right now.
@ak2018 Taking AP Lang, even though we haven’t done much multiple choice, has helped a lot.
I have to outline five essays for tomorrow’s lit exam (it will be two but there are 3 possibilities for one of them) and practice for my calc exam tomorrow as well! I have 7 hours of exams tomorrow two during school and 3 hours after school :((
@mirandaf Personally, I would say to take AP Lit as it could help you get out of that freshman English college class, which, depending on where you go to college, you would’ve had to take. You might want to take out one of your existing APs if you’re concerned with the number of APs you plan to take. I would say to take out AP Stats, because it’s more of an AP math elective, and replace it with AP Lit.
@neptuna Based on what described, these are some possible APs you should check, if you haven’t already done them and if possible:
AP Research or Seminar
AP Comp Sci Principles
AP Stats
You might also want to think about using that free time to take a fun EdCourse or other openware online class online. I would say to definitely do something you want with your time.
@frazzledazzle I would say AP Lang helped me a bit, but I feel learned much more from last year.
@Mirandaf
I’m one of those people who can’t handle a B in a class. So if I had a B in AP Lang, I would freak out. However, it depends on what YOU want as grades. Bs are really good, I’m just a dumb overachiever.
At my school, English is the hardest subject you can take even as a regular class and even for those who are good at English. So if you attended my school, I would strongly advise NOT taking that class.
If your school offers IB, you might want to switch to that. It’s not necessarily easier, but it has less restrictions than the APs so the teacher might be more open to your style of writing.
Also, question. As a senior, I’m considering this as my schedule:
IB BIo HL Y2
IB Economics SL
IB Spanish V
IB English HL Y2
AP Calc AB
Online Anatomy & Physiology (or any online class)
AP Physics
Is this a good schedule, and can anyone comment on the difficulty of AP Physics? I’m more of a math person and I took IB Physics sophomore year. It wasn’t bad, and I feel as though I would’ve breezed through with a better teacher. I also heard our AP Physics teacher at my school is amazing.
Also, I’m a little late on the PSAT discussion, but how accurate are the predictions??
I’m right on the edge of Michigan’s predicted cutoff score for semifinalist, and I’m really nervous. (I got a 215…they say cutoff will range from 215-218 or something like that)
Is anyone else feeling a bit jealous of the seniors right now? Like they’re getting into really good colleges and I’m just like "This better happen to me next year! " :))
I know @ak2018 someone from my school got into Stanford and another one Harvard
@frazzledazzle Hey! You’re from Maine too!
Also, I figure I’ll post my schedule for next year as well:
AP Calculus BC
AP Physics C
AP Lang
IB History Year 2
AP Stats
AP French
Astronomy
Science Research Honors Year 3
Because of I’m taking all my classes at college I still don’t know my exact schedule for spring quarter, much less next year haha
@snowfairy137 What has the shift from going to a high school to a college been like? Also, are you considered a college freshman right now? When you apply to colleges next year, will you count as a transfer?
I’m getting a progress report in school today. Its like a report-card, and marks that we are half-way through quarter two. Midterms are slowly but surely coming… x.x
So I took my Pre-Calc test today and I feel like I didn’t do as well as I should’ve. I’m starting to notice that I’m not doing as well in my classes this quarter, so I’ve decided to take a pause from my ECs until the end of the semester. I will instead, spend that time doing my homework and study. I will do my ECs again, if my grades up. In Pre-Calc, if my grades get worse, I’m going to stay after to get help from my teacher on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I just need to focus right now.
Do you guys know any great websites for Pre-Calc help?
@LeopardFire no, I’ll be considered a freshman when I apply to college. It’s been pretty good, but I’m a commuter and the college is fairly easy. I like how my schedule is more flexible and I’m in school less.
I just got my quarter grades back, actually!!
Physics 4.0
Physics Lab 4.0
English 4.0
Chemistry 3.9 (Which means I did absolutely amazing on the final, I was expecting like a 3.7 or 3.8!!)
I lost my 4.0 but oh well, I’m still really proud of myself because I had the hardest chemistry teacher, and my cumulative GPA’s like a 3.998 anyway like colleges wont care.
@ak2018 Khan Academy’s section on PreCalc is pretty good. I would also recommend the PreCalc courses on Coursera (free access to materials).
I’m so nervous for the seniors…most of them got decisions for safety schools, not the reach ones that they actually want to go to
Finals tomorrow and Friday. So nervous
@sciencenerd123 Are you from south, central, or northern Maine? I’m from central! We’re both taking
@ak2018 Having another year of school under my belt helps a lot, too!
@cliffnotes One of my classmates found out about Harvard yesterday (she got in!). I know that the Ivies are releasing their stuff either yesterday, today, or tomorrow. Harvard released decisions yesterday and Dartmouth today. Those are the only 2 schools I know about.
@frazzledazzle southern Maine. Congrats to your friend! My friend got deffered from Harvard the other day and she was so upset! It’s kind of freaking me out—she was such a nice person, and so so SO smart, like I don’t see what more Harvard could want. I hope she’s not too discouraged. And hey, around this time next year I’ll be deffered from Brown so WOO HOO. Gotta start mentally preparing now.
