High School Class of 2018

I think I did pretty good on the SAT, some of the math questions were pretty tricky for me tho. And the lights at the school I was taking at it went out, so we had to write the essay in near darkness lmao

i agree, the writing portion was really easy! I finished 10 minutes early and double-checked my answers. The math was pretty good but I didn’t get time to finish my conclusion for the essay.

5 people in my testing room forgot to bring their calculators. It was rough

TFW I can’t really relate to any of y’all because I’m not taking my first SAT for another two months! :))

If anything, the writing portion of the SAT practice test I took was super easy, the English section, on the other hand, was not.

I just can’t understand why I do so bad on the reading section… I can read the passage quickly and understand the focus and purpose and all that, but when I look at the questions, I blank out. Like either the answer choices will all seem wrong or all seem right. I don’t know.

I know I improved in math because on the with calculator section, I had like 20 minutes left when I was finished. It gave me plenty of time to go back to the ones I was unsure of.

Just took the SAT Math 2 and winged the Literature. I was originally planning on taking just the Math, but adding on another test was $20 so I thought why not! None of the colleges I’m applying to require me to submit all SAT Subject Tests and they allow score choice for Subject Tests, so I’m in the clear.

I think I got 750 - 770 on the Math 2, as I definitely have one wrong and eight omitted. I studied for 3 months prior to this test essentially teaching myself Pre-Calculus, so if I get a high score, I definitely deserve it.

The Literature, on the other hand, is a lottery. I can generally read news articles and short stories and understand those, but the entire test was half Shakespeare-like text and half poetry. I made educated guesses, but on the other hand, the last time I read a book was one year ago :))

Realistically, I’ll be studying for the SAT I and SAT Chemistry after exams. I’m definitely a lot better in the sciences than English. And I doubt my Literature score will be above the 750+ range needed for the schools I’m applying to!

@HelloThereHola I used to get really low scores on reading (both PSAT and AP lang tests) because of the same reason. My main culprit was because I was over thinking everything. It might be helpful to think of the passage and questions in the simplest terms and when you are looking at the answers, look at what’s wrong, not right (because when you are looking for the right answer all the answers start looking right). That may not be helpful by the biggest thing I can say is to just not over think it

The SAT today was way easier than last month’s. There were maybe three questions on the math section that I struggled with, and the R/W was a cakewalk.
When college apps roll around and my GPA is the one major pitfall in my application, perhaps my test scores will somewhat remedy it.

Anyone know when the Questbridge College Prep program app opens up?

@kassh4 The exact date isn’t there, but it does start sometime in February.

So I needed some advice. I’m planning on doing all of my MITES essays this week. Do you guys think I should be as descriptive as possible or should I just get to the point?

Also, my math review is going pretty well so far. I’ve looked over a few Khan Academy videos and they are doing wonders. I’ve already looked over some videos for our next unit on Limits.

My guard competition went really well yesterday! We got 4th place, which is waaay better than the program has ever got on the first show of the season! I’m super pumped for the rest of the season!

Decided my next SAT II will be US History, instead of Chemistry. Is AMSCO a good book for it? I have four months to prepare.

Yo I have to write my TASP Essays today lol. I hope I can spread out the work for MITES over next week, because I think I have a chance at that one and don’t want to make my essays trash.

I managed to get A’s in all of my classes!! <:-P :D/

@ak2018 I like the saying “show not tell”. Add description, but not details that are irrelevant to the point

Also, the TASP essays are kicking me in the behind

@Lisa M Thanks for the advice.

@Soccer1235 The MITES application is due next Wednesday.

Also, for anyone who wants to know, the U.S. News Path to College Scholarship application is due next Tuesday. Has anyone applied for SAMS?

For anyone who is applying to MITES, what did you discuss for the first essay question? Did you talk about college as a career goal, or a future job?

@ak2018 Just submitted my application to the U.S. News Scholarship! The essay topic was a nice change from the other topics I’ve seen on other scholarships. I made my essay a bit on the creative side.

@DancingwithStars I was planning on writing my essay on some potential future career goals. Personally, I have a lot to talk about since I feel like I can do almost anything with my degree (become an engineer, become a university professor, or start my own engineering firm).

@preciousdiamond Yeah. I was planning on doing mine next week!

For the MITES essays, I’m doing one each day for the next 6 days!
