High School Class of 2018

Random question, but I wanted to know what you guys want to major in during college? Like for example, I want to major in Nuclear Engineering/Nuclear Physics

@solarsystem I want to major in Mechanical Engineering and, potentially, minor in Computer Science. Isn’t it weird how almost everyone I know wants a STEM degree? :-?

@ak2018 I know right! Especially engineering too

I’m probably going to double major in History and English Literature, I plan on going to Law school :-*

@solarsystem Biology!!!

Robotics/Mechanical Engineering

@ak2018 Its great that the field is growing! Also the fact that STEM is pretty cool if you ask me

@solarsystem Either physics, astronomy, or planetary astronomy; it depends on the college.

@frazzledazzle I want to minor in astronomy maybe since it is my number one favorite subject, but I would rather want to go into Nuclear for a career because its like my second favorite subject.

Statistics and maybe Economics for me, looking to become an actuary.

Math or Business.

I’m not sure what I will major in, but I have to get my pre-med required courses in with a high GPA. Some possible majors: Chem, Bio, Biomedical engineering, etc.

I am not 100% sure but maybe biochemistry.

I’m still at school because I know I don’t get work done at home. I had to finish a unit exam and quiz for my online Macro class. Also needed to get through a large chunk of the MIT OEOP essays. It’s chill though because the engineering kids needed to finish robots and they’re staying late too.

@acomfysofa I can understand why your teachers would protest, but I’m sorry it has to impact you and your classmates. :\ Has this interfered with any of your EC’s or grades? Hopefully colleges will understand if you explain the situation on your apps.

@ak2018 This is actually the first snow we’ve had over here in awhile! It’s been a very light winter.

@minimango I can’t imagine never having a snow day… It’s the one good thing about winter after the holidays pass!

@solarsystem I think it will depend on the college I attend. If I go to Emerson, which is looking to be my first choice currently, I will major in Writing, Literature, and Publishing. It sounds like three majors, but it’s just one with a long name. :stuck_out_tongue: Miami University has a Professional Writing major I’m interested in. For a majority of schools, I’ll probably end up in Creative Writing or something similar.

@Hamlon How long does your school stay open? :o Its 9:010 PM right now for me. My school’s library closes at 4 PM, I don’t think they want kids staying much later than that.

I’m jealous of those who genuinely want to major in STEM. I’ve always been told that that’s where the jobs are, but I am just not a math or science person.

What’s your rank and GPA after first semester of junior year?

@LeopardFire Don’t be sorry! What happen, happens  . My outside-of-school ECs are unaffected, but in-school ECs are banned during the protest so I’m unable to participate in any of those. As for my marks, they’re also unaffected.

In the grand scheme, it’s simply less things I can put on my college application. I’d also have to ask colleges for an exemption to the teacher recommendation letter requirement since letters are banned too. But I’ll easily be able to explain it.

@LeopardFire I just got home about 25 mins ago. It’s 20 mins til 9 where I am. Honestly, you can stay until the janitors kick you out. Which would be somewhere around 9. Also, one of my favorite articles talks about the intersections between STEM and the humanities. It’s called, ā€˜To Write Better Code, Read Virginia Woolf.’

I’ll major in PoliSci or Econ, not entirely sure yet. Minor in theatre or music, depending on the school.

@solarsystem Both are really good subjects, honestly. I’m planning on minoring in music since I play the flute and would never give it up. I want to be in a professional symphony orchestra while doing astronomy as a job when I grow up.
