@neonerudite I’m looking forward to H Latin IV, since I’ll have the same teacher from this year, who is easily one of the best in the school. I will also be taking AP Euro, which my advisor teaches. She is also amazing, so I’m guaranteed two great teachers for subjects I’m passionate about.
First semester grades were due at 8:30 AM today. Two of my teachers didn’t finalize their grades until two hours before they were due… And they tell us not to procrastinate! I ended up getting a 96 (!!!) for my AP Lang midterm, giving me a 91 for the semester. I was super close to taking a huge hit to my GPA this semester, but I think it’s actually going to improve now!
@angelwings0137 I wouldn’t call GT a safety school for many people, and definitely not for you. You said you got a 27 on a practice ACT - that needs considerable work to be even in the middle 50% for Georgia Tech (http:// admission. gatech. edu/ images/ pdf/ FreshmanProfile2016.pdf). Not to mention that they turn away tons of qualified applicants every year. Unless your other statistics and extracurriculars are really good, I’d say that Tech is really a high match/reach for you.
Well then…i say we let @angelwings0137 make rankings according to how she alone perceives herself. If she thinks GT is a safety school then who has the right to stop her from thinking so. Optimism doesn’t hurt.
Plus the only thing that matters about this stupid college admission process that we will go through is that we don’t let any school add or take away from the amazing things we have accomplished, and especially not from how we view our self-worth.
Thanks guys. I now understand what you mean. I guess GT is mainly a match for me. And about my 27 on my practice ACT, that was without any type of studying. I’d say that’s darn good for someone who had never even seen the test prior to taking it. Thanks for the info guys
@Soccer1235 I’m very sad about Capaldi leaving after this season. He was the first Doctor I was fully able to connect with and see myself with. Good news! The new season premieres on April 15th (I think) on BBC America!
So the emails for the Hamilton Scholarship Program were sent out today notifying those who have moved onto Round 2 of judging… And I made it to the second round!!! I’m super excited!!!
Next year I’m most excited for my electives! Vocal Jazz is going to be really fun, and Digital Photography 1 is going to be a chance for me to explore in art a little! I don’t know if I will be able to get DP1 in my schedule though…
@angelwings0137 nobody is taking away from your accomplishments. You seem like a great student who can be a good fit at any college. However, when I took my first practice ACT, I got a 28. My first real test was a 33, and I still wouldn’t consider GA Tech a safety for me if I considered applying. A safety has to have averages far below your GPA/test scores and a school that you’ll almost surely get in. For example, someone on here said Syracuse wasn’t even a safety for me, and its ACT range is 24-29. They were referring to the communications school, though, which is regarded as a little better than Syracuse as a whole.
@angelwings0137 You seem dedicated, so you’ll probably see an increase in your test scores as well, but GA Tech really isn’t a safety for anyone, especially for science/math fields
@acomfysofa What exactly is going on at your school? D:
My school let out at 11:00 today due to snow, which made my classes 20 minutes long! I almost would have preferred to have a snow day, but then that would have taken a day away from summer break. Besides, it’s been snowing non-stop since I left and its forecasted to continue throughout the day tomorrow, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I get one after all.
@LeopardFire There’s a province-wide teacher work-to-rule protest that has been ongoing for 2 months now, since the teachers (with their union) and the provincial government weren’t able to form a new contract for salary, working conditions, etc. Work-to-rule basically means only working to the minimum, so no Extracurriculars, extra-help, teacher recommendation letters for colleges, etc. Since the beginning of the protest, there were two contracts which were rejected, and a third contract being put up to vote this month that will likely also be rejected. There’s rumors that if the third contract deal isn’t accepted, that teachers will go on a full strike
The teacher updating his PowerSchool during work-to-rule is being risky as if he’s caught doing that, he would lose his job and wouldn’t be able to find work in teaching at a public school anywhere in the province (which was what I was told from one of my other teachers). All teachers are only supposed to record marks by paper under the work-to-rule protest.
Sorry to derail the topic a little bit, but I made a GroupMe for anyone who applied to MITES/E2/MOSTEC this summer!!
