@Hamlon I think NM stands for national match what does RD stand for.
@kassh4 Questbridge has a regular decision option for those who either aren’t matched through or choose not to participate in the national college match program.
I really want to apply but how strict are they about their Financial Qualifications?
@Hamlon Thanks for reminding me!
@angelwings0137 I would not call Georgia Tech a safety, especially for Engineering. Even without engineering, their average ACT is a 31 and for Engineering I am sure it is way higher considering it’s one of the best in the country. I’m not sure if you’re going into Engineering but you said STEM. It’s also hard to judge safeties if you haven’t taken the ACT/SAT yet…
@EKolin I agree with you, when it comes to math and science fields Georgia Tech is ranked very high.
I just created a GroupMe. Here’s the link that will allow you to enter the group:
You’re invited to my new group “AP Chemistry Group” on GroupMe. https://app.■■■■■■■■■■■/join_group/28464561/EZyT6N
You can either sign up with your e-mail address or phone number. To keep some privacy, you may set your nickname to be your username, like I did. Hope this helps. I may just start one for Pre-Calc.
Joined it! Could the study group be for both AP Chem and the Chem SAT subject test? @ak2018
@EKolin @minimango I understand what you guys are trying to say, and I’m not trying to brag, but I’m pretty sure I’m very capable of getting in. But I guess we’ll see
@minimango Thank you!
@solarsystem I wanted to become an astronaut when I was younger, but now I want to work at NASA helping to send people to space!
I think I’m going to take World. The teacher’s very good and the course has been at my school for a while whereas it’s going to be the first year of Euro.
@angelwings0137 I’m visiting Dartmouth again next month and University of Arizona end of October. I’m trying to visit other schools in New England and Canada as well this spring.
@kassh4 I’m thinking of Questbridge as well, but I’m 56/276. lol
@Hamlon I’ve been looking into that and I think I’m going to apply even though I probably won’t get in.
We start choosing our classes for next year on Monday. I can’t believe it’s almost senior year already. Time goes by too fast! Here’s what I’m thinking for next year. Is it too intense for senior year? Thoughts?
AP Literature
AP World History
Astronomy
AP Calculus AB
AP French
AP Physics C
Honors Band
@frazzledazzle if you honestly think you can handle it then that’s a fine course load. I’m taking 4 APs and 2 Honors next year so I’ll get a 5.0 bump to my gpa
@frazzledazzle given that you enjoy astronomy and band as well those should be really nice classes that aren’t hard but still look good for colleges as a strong consistent senior schedule.
I don’t think my rank is a problem for QB(im top 2%) but i think my ACT is lacking.
I’m not trying to fire shots at @angelwings0137 but all my senior friends have told me not to get obsessed with a specific school especially if it’s got acceptance rates less than 25%. At that point they turn down plenty of qualified applicants and you are gonna be super devastated. Just have an open perspective it will be much better for your mental health next year.
@angelwings0137 @Iridescentgaze The 5.0 weight sure does help! Plus it’s natural progression for me to go into most of those classes (Lit, French, Calc) and others I’m taking because they’re fun (Physics, World, Astronomy, Band). I’ve already taken Physics freshman year so it won’t be as big a challenge as it would be for other people (it’s known as the hardest class offered at my school). Thanks for your input!
@kassh4 oh I definitely understand. That’s why I don’t really have a “dream” school in that sense because I know it’s always a crap shoot regardless of how smart and amazing you are. I just felt that I was doing well enough to even be considered or to fit their average student qualifications. And I don’t necessarily think that it’s a bad thing to be sure of yourself. A lot of people look down on that but I think it’s ok if you actually are as good as you say and are able to take constructive criticism and accept failures
Capaldi is leaving Doctor Who after this season!! :((
I wonder who the next one will be…
I actually just might get the chance to “work” at NASA. I just got an email from the teacher of my online class and as of right now, I am the highest ranked (1/31) in my class for the first time in my life. <:-P (Likely due to the fact that half of my class turns in things late, and I turn in my stuff on-time, and I actually write pretty good papers despite the fact that I finished them 7 minutes before the deadline.) She also told me that due to my punctuation and excellence throughout the class so far, she is recommending me to be a mission manager as well as the director of Mission Catalyst, the mission simulation we will be creating over the course of a week, if I do well for the rest of the course.
Apparently, being a mission manager will require that I will be the manager of a mission with its objective to either explore the lithosphere, atmosphere, biosphere, or hydrosphere. I’d get to pick which sphere (atmosphere) and I’d get a mission crew of 9 other people. There would be 3 other mission managers. The biggest thing we’d have to do is design, not actually create, a satellite with a $1 Billion dollar. If I’m selected to be the director, I’ll basically be the leader of the entire mission in all four spheres, which is going to be so cool. At the end of the week, we’d get to present our mission to actual NASA scientists. And apparently, this program produces a lot of paid NASA interns and gives the attendants a lot of job-networking opportunities, so I think I might just have a potential job with NASA in the future!
@ak2018 Nice!! Wish my area had opportunities like that. The closest thing I have is Kennedy Space Center to go visit, but I’m not complaining lol
@angelwings0137 isn’t a safety a school you are 100% sure you can get into? GA Tech is pretty hard to get into even for top students, so I think it would be more of a match for you (I’m very sure you would get into it, but still that acceptance rate makes it not certain). VA Tech on the other hand would definitely be a safety for you.
and i’m pretty sure I only have like one safety, UGA (which will only stay a safety if I keep my rank up). Honestly I can’t fine any other schools that are considered a safety for me that I would be semi-happy to go to…
what class are you guys most excited for next year? I’m really excited for AP Latin and AP Research (i may regret saying that). Even though I probably can’t take AP Chemistry next year, I am going to try and find a way to get into the AP Chem teacher’s guided study so I can still learn a bit lol.
@frazzledazzle that sounds like a good schedule!
I am super conflicted about my schedule. My school does not offer honors so it is either regular or AP. However, I doubt I will have the time(or motivation) to take seven AP classes next year. On the bright side, after I take my Calculus test tomorrow all my stress will be gone!
