High School Class of 2018

Do you guys get like a week off or something for spring break??? At my school our “spring break” is just a Friday and a Monday off for Easter. We also technically have that Thursday off but it’s always a make-up day (yay snow).

We get a week off

We got 10 days off

Just bought “Calculus: Early Transcendalists” to teach myself Calculus out of interest! Picked it up for only $15, so I think it was a steal.

It’s an older edition textbook so it’s 10 years old, but I don’t think Calculus changes over time ;

Does the book go up to Calculus 2? Just wondering so I have bragging rights when I finish it.

@Soccer1235 It’s only a week off. I actually like the timing. My AP classes finish all of the curriculum before April break and then we do review in the weeks before AP exams.

Our spring break starts on the 8th but I won’t be studying for APs because I’ll be in New Orleans…

We had a half day yesterday and Spring break starts today. I don’t go back till the 3rd. Is anyone else doing some college visits?

@acomfysofa we used the end of that textbook in my multivariable calc class so it goes through calc 3/4 (depending on if the school goes by semesters or quarters)

@singingwriting meeeeee! I’m leaving for Boston tuesday.

PSA: For anyone wondering if they got into any of the Carnegie Mellon summer programs, use the following link to see if you got accepted: https : / / directory . andrew . cmu . edu /

Put in your name and see if you got accepted. If your name isn’t in there, they have likely not made their decision.

Also, I was just accepted into the NOVEC Youth Tour!

I’m going down to Boston twice during my April break. Once for the Cambridge Science Festival and once for a youth orchestra trip in which I’ll be staying a day longer to go to the March for Science.

I’m going with my school’s spanish club (which I am not a part of) to NYC next week to see a Spanish play and then walk around a little. I’m excited. In two weeks, I am visiting Syracuse and at the end of April I’m visiting a couple schools in Boston. Plus junior prom in a month.
After all that, I start working at an amusement park for the summer. I was lucky enough to land a job inside one of the gift shops, so I actually get air conditioning lol.

@singingwriting I think I’ll visit a couple colleges during spring break such as University of Miami.

@frazzledazzle and others close enough to Boston- Hi. I have a daughter (not on cc) who is class of 2018. If you live close enough to Boston check out Eurekafest. While it isn’t a big activity to put on a college application it is a fun science group activitity with high school students across the country. http://lemelson.mit.edu/events/eurekafest-2017 I’m not sure when registration comes out. I know last year high school students had mostly a meet/greet BBQ at MIT on Friday night then spent Saturday at MIT then the Museum of Science working on a project involving lifting rubber ducks. My daughter loved it. If younger siblings are coming there are lots of extra science activities at the museum that day and at the end is a rubber duck drop which reminded me of an Easter egg hunt.

So I just found out that I got into SAMS today! I super happy but also kinda conflicted.

Also, my spring break plans consist of studying for APs and subject tests, preparing for a piano competition, and hopefully buying a prom dress

Currently on my way home from Williams and I had a GREAT experience. The area was beautiful and everything felt kind of natural. For example, at dinner on Thursday the resteraunt was playing my favorite semi-small band and had an amazing dinner. There was another wrestler in my tour who has met the coaching staff and he seemed to really enjoy them. I love the concept of tutorials and their faculty interaction and research opportunities are great. The are so many outdoor activities and all the facilities seem brand new and cost next to nothing for student use. Financial aid seemed great as well. Students are on spring break so still not sure if the body is too flowery/artsy for my liking. Overall it was awesome and can totally see myself as an Eph.
