My APUSH teacher just started assigning period reviews. Each week we have to do 2 periods and each period has 50+ questions. Then we have our period 8 test coming up next week which I have to do well on because I want a 92 for the 4th quarter so I’ll have an A for the year. C
On chapter 38 in the American Pageant… getting so close to the end, but this is my favorite time period.
I’m now at the 1970s in the American Pageant, or Chapter 39! Less than 100 pages to go until the finish
@julia35002 The 60s is a very interesting period. Basically civil reforms and Vietnam war. It’s also interesting how the gay movement started in the late 60s because I originally thought it started much much later.
It is, I definitely like the 70’s a lot more. I actually just finished reading about Watergate and the women’s rights movement. It is really sad to see the Equal Rights Amendment vetoed and never really pursued again.
@Lisa M In my province in Canada, from all the local news articles I can find, the last person in my province that had a news article on getting accepted to an Ivy League school (Harvard) was 12 years ago in 2005.
And people here who get a C$20,000 scholarship get on the news (because Canadian scholarships are so rare!), so someone who gets a US$300,000/C$400,000 full-ride scholarship at say Harvard would probably be on local news everywhere, therefore it’s a safe bet that the last one may be from 2005.
Whether that’s a good thing (i.e. no one ever applies so serious Atlantic Canadian URM) or a bad thing (i.e. some apply but never get in) for me, who knows ;
@oPhilippos I agree about most of what you said! I just wanna point out that some people just talk about dream or reach schools even if they have a balanced list, because if you have the stats for your reach school, then you can def get into your other schools. GPA isn’t everything, although for Harvard, at least, 95% were in the top 10 and 100% were in the top 25%, only 8% had GPAs below 3.75…but I think your school definitely matters for the “top 10%” thing. At my school, the top 10% is actually 7 people, and far more than 7 people get into good schools. The top 10% GPA cut off is around 96/100 which is crazy! So for all y’all 4.00 scale people…be happy
Like I may have talked about Ivys once, but I would also loveee to attend my lower reach, match, or safety school! I can definitely see myself at Northeastern, Case Western, Pitt! Which I think is super important. A lot of people I know only apply to tippy top schools and then the state school…that’s so dumb! You have to have that balance and be ready for every “what if”. Nobody can predict your admission into Top 20-30 schools, don’t be that person who is super sad after admissions season because they didn’t do their research
I didn’t get into YSPA. I knew it was coming but it still hurts. Now I REALLY want to get into SSP - either campus - even if it means I can’t go to Girls State.
Does anyone know the date that MITES/E2/MOSTEC decisions were released last year? We’re supposed to find out “mid-April” but I would love a more specific time frame…
@18college1111 Check on the thread for MITES/E2/MOSTEC. They would know there.
@frazzledazzle Just found it, thank you!
@LushLillies I also am starting to like Case Western! Its funny because I never heard about it until a couple of days ago but I defiantly think I am applying.
Well today was pretty bad for me. I was talking to people about retaking the SAT so I could raise my score high enough that it’s around the level for MIT, and mostly everyone told me that I wasn’t going to get in, and that I had no chance whatsoever. That basically brought my mood down for the whole day. Like I try to not listen to people when they say that kind of stuff, but lately it just seems like kids, and even one of my teachers, just think I’m crazy for thinking I have any sort of chance of getting into MIT.
My only goal now is to do everything I absolutely can to prove everyone wrong. Not that anything is wrong with community college, I don’t want to end up going to it just because the majority of kids do at my school. I want to leave this state and follow my passion. It looks like that I only have a couple of people who believe in me, and I’ve decided that’s really all I need.
Just something for everyone: never let anyone who isn’t you decide for you. If you have the dream of going to a specific college or accomplishing something, then work towards it, and don’t let anyone try to tell you that you can’t, like people tried to do to me. Your hard work will definitely pay off in the long run.
@solarsystem Just block out the haters! B-) Someone basically said the same thing to me regarding Ivy League schools. She said that her brother barely got into an Ivy League school because he plays golf and that he needed to have a high SAT score and that I’d have to get a super high score to have even a small chance because my GPA isn’t that good.
Go for your goals! You can do it!
@LisaM @LushLilles I’m thinking of applying to Case Western as well!
aw, that’s sad that you don’t have any support system
it can be really hard to tune out negative comments…go prove them all wrong!!!
for me, it’s almost the opposite side of the spectrum. People think that because I won this one good award that I’m automatically in at Harvard or something…like no! I can’t have discussion with people about college without them being like “well, you’re gonna get in everywhere so go away.” Idk. I feel like people don’t understand admissions very well…not like I do, but I sure know that one award doesn’t make you in at ANY of the top 20 schools. It’s kinda hard. I’m not a super confident person, but it’s frustrating when other people act like they know more about me than me…plus I had an 89 in Calc BC, not in the top 10%…I can hope and pray for the best, but I feel kinda weird about things. I WISH people would be brutally honest with me? My counselor doesn’t even say stuff. I don’t wanna be super sad in the end, so I’m making sure my list is balanced and full of places I love!
Wow that was a rant. happy monday
@LushLillies Except that at school there are also people who think I’m very smart and are surprised to find out that I’m 49th in my class and not higher. It’s hard being two sides of the same coin.
You guys guess what!!! I got into the LEDA Scholars Program!!
@HelloThereHola Congrats! @LushLillies I have been getting emails from Case Western for like the past year! Is it actually that good of a school?
@solarsystem I’m sorry, I feel the same for you as people have told me the same thing for Cornell. It is not the greatest of the ivies, but it is a big stride for me and my school! I tell people and I just get that fake compliment, but we all believe you can do it on here!
Well I somehow got dragged to watch the basketball championships at Gonzaga. Go Zags!
I went on facebook today and found that this one girl who I’m facebook friends with got into 7/8 ivies plus stanford and I’m honestly just so shook like how tf
also i got an email today from my state’s harvard club saying that I got the harvard prize book award but now it’s rlly awkward because they were like “typically your recommender and head of school go to the award ceremony” and like I only got my teacher’s recommendation because she was writing me one anyways for a different scholarship (that was subject-specific and thus required her specifically) and I was like hey let’s kill two birds with one stone and send it in to this competition too. i just feel like a burden lol she didn’t ask for this
