High School Class of 2018

Got into UF Student Science Training Program (UF SSTP). A 7-week research residential program.

As @ak2018 already stated, I got into MOSTEC at MIT! This is great cause I finally have something to encompass my life with over the summer, and I feel accomplished finally. Also I’m totally down for making a groupme for this thread!

I would love a group chat! @hamlon and solarsystem congrats! So happy for you!

I’m so excited that some of you are getting accepted into these summer programs!!!

@ak2018 don’t get caught with that link by that ski moderator like I did with mites lmao

@Iridescentgaze Thanks!

@solarsystem Lol too late
Anyone who still wants to join can PM Me, @Soccer1235, and @LeopardFire as well as anyone who already joined.

Ugh I haven’t been posting much lately (mostly lurking) because I’ve been super busy!!! My schedule for next year, while not 100% confirmed, should look like this:

AP Gov/Econ 12 (Econ is taught like once a week by another teacher)
AP Lang (took Lit this year)
Infectious Diseases
Stats (CC credit through high school)
French 4 (CC credit through high school)
Vocal Jazz
Band and Chorus
Gym (mandatory)

Also, congrats to everyone who got accepted into all of these cool summer programs :)>- as soon as I can get into my local CC to take their reading test, I can officially be registered to take Sociology 101 over the summer! Obviously not as cool and reputable, but it’s something, especially something that I can do if I have to go up to Canada with my family at some point this summer.

I’ve been super stressed lately about college. My mom doesn’t want me going too far away, but there’s this really good cheap OOS college that would give me $500/semester to be in their band (I know this because a senior friend from last year goes there and got the same thing, a d they actively recruited her because they didn’t have flutes). However, it’s in North Carolina (I live in NY) and I’m having a hard enough time convincing my mom to let me look in Ohio or Pennsylvania because of distance. I even looked at their financial aid page and they have good opportunities for people with my stats, even OOS. I’m torn on whether to consider applying or not… My mom wouldn’t like it, but I can’t see her not letting me try, especially because it could be very inexpensive. However, now that the free tuition for instate students at SUNYs passed, they might pressure me into staying because it’s that much cheaper… Ugh I don’t know. Just needed to vent I guess haha

PLEASE MAKE A GROUP ME OMFG

whoops i meant omg not with the f hehe

@gigichuck @julia35002 @solarsystem @ak2018

Wow! Thank you all for your kind responses! I am really glad to have such nice people to offer great support at a stressful time.

As much as I would like to skip the May SAT, I can’t… I was going to spend June and August for subject tests. Not matter what happens, I am sure that I will get at least one good score! Whether it be on a subject test, SAT/ACT, or SAT/ACT section (math, science, reading, etc).

I think from now on, I’ll stop judging my practice tests on the whole score, and appreciate my small victories!

Thanks again!

You’re welcome!!

@overachieving What’s your username on GroupMe? I can add you that way, but as far as I can tell, I can’t link it. ^^’

I took the SAT back in January, and I got a 1480. I got a 790 on math which I’m really happy about. I was really tired, and I was toast by the time the essay came around. I got a 5/3/6, so 14/24. I wanna study math in college, and I’m expecting like a 4/5 on AP Lang, so do you guys think the essay score will hurt my chances for like the harder schools? Should I retake? Will they even care since I’m going to school for math?

@DaEmmJay23 congrats! that’s a great score :slight_smile:

Definitely don’t retake just for the essay. A lot of schools don’t care about the essay, esp if your actual college essays are good. They know the scoring system for the standardized test essay is really weird and totally subjective. Your AP Lang score will help too!

A 1480 should be good for most schools (except maybe like those top 20 schools? But because of holistic admissions it really depends :slight_smile: )

Is any of you planning on using Coalition App instead of Common App?

@gigichuck
Pros and cons of each?

@Volunteerism Yeah. I think Coalition is mostly for the prestigious schools.

But what are you gaining and loosing by using the coalition over the ca?

So, my schedule is actually gonna change since I’m gonna dual enroll during the summer:

@ School:
AP Lit, AP Macro (Half a semester), AP Gov (Half a semester), AP BIo (Block class), Wind Ensemble/Band 4 Honors

Dual Enrollment:
Summer: Calc 1 and German 1, Fall: Calc 2 and German 2, Spring: Calc 3
