High School Class of 2018

@neonerudite Happy birthday! <:-P I think I remember there being a lot of May birthdays in this thread this year. Mine is on the 23rd, and I am totally not ready to be 17. I can’t believe I’m going to be an adult in a little over a year… orz

I feel okay about my first essay, meh about my second essay, and my third was a disappointment. The multiple choice was annoying, but if my teacher is accurate, you only need to get around 65% of them correct for a 5, so I’m not as worried about how I did there.

@LeopardFire Being 17 is fun, but feeling like you’re going to be an adult soon isn’t. I feel like I’m getting old.

The essays were something else. For the synthesis I discussed the importance of libraries and what they can do to stay relevant technologically. For the second I wrote about foreshadowing and appeals to pathos. For the third I talked about the “fake news” narrative in government, James Comey not following that narrative and thus getting fired, and then politicians working against the narrative like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. Mcqs were weird. I have no idea how I’ll do on those. Overall I think I did well.

17! you can donate blood without parent/ guardian permission!

So apparently my AP Chem final project is to watch a movie with instances of actual Chemistry (chemical equations) in it and actually do the Chemistry. Anyone know any movies such as this?

@julia35002 That’s true! I’ve already donated blood and I’m doing so again at the end of the month.

@ak2018 The Martian? There’s a part where Mark Watney - the main character - performs a combustion reaction to break down a fuel to Hydrogen and Oxygen. There’s also biology, physics, and engineering in the movie. Plus it’s well put together and very funny. It’s one of my favorites!

I don’t weigh enough to donate blood lol.

Tomorrow is my last day of school which means I’m officially a senior at 3 tomorrow!!

All my friends and I were talking about it at lunch the other day and it’s really didn’t connect with me, until today. A underclassmen asked me in one of my classes if I was excited to basically be a senior, and at that moment it hit me that I’ll be a senior (and the rest of y’all) in literally no time at all (depending on your last day). But as of a few hours I was officially done with all of my work!

Well I’ve spent all day thinking about the stupid mistakes I made on my physics test this morning. Ugh.

@snowfairy137 Lol. I do that too sometimes. Le passé est passé.

@madison2000 Lucky! My last day of formal school is June 12th, but then I have finals up to the 16th.

At least finals aren’t going to be killer. I had 7 midterms since I took so many classes last semester, but I only have 3 finals, since AP Lang and APUSH have essays for their finals rather than actual tests. That gives me some much-needed time to prepare for my Chemistry and Pre-Calc finals.

My last day is June 12 as well, but I am stuck taking 5 regents during that week and the next week. :frowning:

I thought school went until the 16th of June, but that day is actually a make-up day for finals, so school ends on the 15th! Classes end on the 9th and then there are finals until the 15th. Some of my finals are going to be easy because they’re for my AP classes.

My last full day is June 8. June 9 and 12 are finals for me.
State testing is from Monday to Thursday next week. My favorite thing is that after you pass them in sophomore year, you’re done! And that means a two hour delay for us. I could use the sleep right now.

I was expecting a B as my final grade in DC French and woke up to a 90.00. My professor came through! I wasn’t even going to ask for a grade bump and definitely don’t deserve the grade, but I’ll take it! :stuck_out_tongue:

Do you guys think I should self study AP Chem and AP Bio and take the exams next year instead of taking the classes? I found I learn much better and faster studying by myself through videos and textbooks. Plus I could use the extra free time during my senior year.

@FutureMathLegend if you want to take the tests for the college credit go ahead. The issue is, it wont help you in admissions at all; it looks much better to take the class.

Who’s 16 and who’s 17? I feel like every junior at my school is 17 except me (16) :frowning:

@acomfysofa I am 16! You are not alone!

Now that AP testing is over, I have time to worry about college lists, admissions, essays, etc. again. Lovin’ it. Truly.

I am 17, but I find that my class is split. About 2/3 are 17 while 1/3 is 16. It also might depend on the states cutoff (I don’t know if every state has the same cutoff date for birthdays for registering for kindergarten).

17 as of three days ago.
