High School Class of 2018

@kassh4 When it comes to finding match schools, my advisor says it’s best to use low reaches. To find some low reaches, try using the average stats from your high reaches and decreasing them a bit until they are pretty close to your stats (Example: Schools within 0.05-0.10 of your GPA and 30 points of your SAT/1 point of your ACT score). That should help a bit, hopefully. Again, simply a suggestion.

So I got good news and bad news. I’ll be optimistic and start with the good news :))

Thanks to a scholarship that will be provided to me, and many other high school students around my county, by an alternative education center, I will be able to take an online course this summer for FREE!!! Now I was concerned with how this might affect my summer, and potentially conflict with SAMS, but turns out, it’s not likely going to. They told me the course is very much a self-paced experience and pretty basic as most of the students who take the classes are those who sporadically attend the alternative education center. Students aren’t really given due dates, you just turn things in and the teachers grade them throughout the summer. You could decide to finish everything in 2 weeks or 2 months, as you long as you finish before the start of the school year. I called the center yesterday and left a message for the secretary to contact me with the info I’d need to confirm my scholarship. I should have what I need by the end of the week.

So this all means that my schedule changes once again. Here we go:

AP Psychology
GEMS 12
AP Physics C
World History 2 OR US Gov OR Econ and Finance
AP Calculus BC
World History 2 OR US Gov OR Econ and Finance
AP English Lit
AP Comp Sci A
MEC 100 - Introduction to Aerospace Science and Technology

Even with all this, I’d still have to decide which of these classes (World History 2 OR US Gov OR Econ and Finance) to take this summer. I’ll probably just choose World History 2.

Now for the bad news, bad for me anyway. I got backstabbed by someone who I thought was my friend. He knew I was running for class VP and so what does he do? He goes on Twitter and endorses my opponent knowing that I was running. What’s worse is that my opponent was my absolute nemesis last year. I hated her, she hated me. She usually got bothered with the little things I’d do and it’d always be because I sat right in front of her. She’s really snarky, strict, and uptight while I’m more the happy-go-lucky kind of guy. Our personalities are pretty much water and oil. At this point, I definitely have some competition, especially know that she has that snake on his side. Funny thing is, I actually kind of helped him a bit this year. I was nice and even presented some college info to him (such as scholarships). I’ve kind of gotten over the issue, but I think I’m going to just try and avoid him for a little bit, even though he’s in my AP Lang class. I just never thought he’d be capable of this level of betrayal. He didn’t even tell me about my opponent entering. I’m just going to try and focus on the election though, even though it looks like it’s turning out to be a popularity contest. I actually have a few great ideas too.

@ak2018 Do you know if your friend was also friends with your rival last year? I wouldn’t try to read too much into it.

@kassh4 Same. It seems like most schools either have an average GPA of 3.8+ or 3.3-, making it awkward for everyone stuck in the middle. Even for students with a 3.8+, what would be considered a match for them can’t be because of absurd acceptance rates.

I got a bright start today, I walked into my Pre-Calc class and found $20! Hopefully this is a good omen for the rest of the week. :slight_smile:

Also, who else is taking the AP Lang exam tomorrow?

ETA: It seems like the SAT scores that briefly showed up on May 3rd are back out again. My score didn’t change, thankfully!

@LeopardFire I am! Same with my score. I’m glad I’m now able to see my percentiles and other information that I wasn’t able to see before when scores were briefly out.

@neptuna I took bio too. And yes, the short frqs were kinda tough. The first two were alright I guess.
@LeopardFire I’m taking Lang tomorrow too

@LeopardFire UCONN and Syracuse are total rivals. LOL. My entire family went to Uconn and Syracuse is #1 on the list of schools I’m not allowed to go to!!! (jk)

I got my progress report today since it was mid-quarter. I’m doing the best at this point in the quarter than I did at this point in any other quarter this year. Last quarter, for instance, I had Ds and Fs. Now I have As and Bs. Some of my grades are the highest they’ve been all year, and my goal of getting all As for the first time since 2nd I’m so proud of myself for the improvement. Going on medication has definitely helped.
AP Language: B+
APUSH: A
Calculus: A+
Hon. French 4: B+
Hon. Chemistry: B
Hon. Band: A+

@ak2018 I know a little bit of what you’re going through. In 8th grade I was the VP of Student Council. The President was a complete jerk to me the entire year to the point that I had panic attacks before every executive board - and sometimes all-council - meeting. The funny thing is, he was one of my 2 friends in 6th grade. Throughout the course of middle school he became a worse and worse person to the point that he was the only SC President in my middle school’s history who wasn’t nominated for a citizenship award. He then went goth freshman year since everyone hated him at that point. He transferred to a different high school at the end of sophomore year. All of this stuff doesn’t matter in the long run, anyway.
Good luck with your election! I have my election for Student Council president in a week. I’m running against one of my best guy friends. He told me he was running against me when we went to winter formal together. lol

@LeopardFire @frazzledazzle Yeah, honestly, I’m just mad that this whole thing became a social media/popularity contest. I’m running because people actually nominated me. I’m pretty sure the other three people who are running now are all self-nominated and are trying to spread the word out through social media. The only reason why I even decided to run was because a lot of people from the more “unpopular” crowd wanted me to. It’s weird, but it’s almost like I’m their candidate. I mean, I actually thought of some stuff I would do including trying to involve more student opinions. I haven’t really thought about even putting it on my college apps or how good it’d be. Either way, I’m trying not to worry about as whatever happens, happens.

ALSO IT’S MY BIRTHDAY TODAY! <:-P AND I’M GOING TO BE STUCK TAKING THIS AP LANG EXAM!! :)) :((

@ak2018 Happy Birthday!!!

@ak2018 Happy birthday!

@ak2018 Happy Birthday!!!
That’s basically the reason why my council doesn’t do all-school elections anymore and only council members can vote.

@ak2018 Happy birthday!!! Have a great one!

That AP Lang exam was a lot easier than I expected. Definitely got tripped up by a couple of the passages on the multiple choice, but overall that wasn’t too bad.

@lindsgal Are you from CT too? :0 Are you applying to UConn? I basically feel obligated to, but it doesn’t really offer the major I want…

@ak2018 Happy birthday! <:-P

So, AP Lang happened. I feel really meh about the whole thing, but what’s done is done. Hopefully July brings good news!

I’m all done with AP exams now! If I were to be at home in Maine when scores come out I would get them July 5th, but since I’ll be at SSP in Colorado I’ll have to wait until July 8th. I’ll probably make my sister check and send me a screenshot on the 5th and then I’ll check myself on the 8th.

Lol, I replied here yesterday, thinking that this was the 2017 thread oops

Guess who forgot about a club fair tomorrow!!! And guess who was supposed to make the sign!!! Hopefully I can find some cardboard laying around so I can do it. Idk I completely forgot about it so who knows.

So that AP Lang exam was complete and utter trash. I could barely understand the first passage, loved the second passage, felt weird about the third passage, and didn’t even read the fourth passage. I wrote the first essay for pro-libraries, second essay trying to figure out what the heck I was doing, and I wrote the third essay about the 2016 Presidential election and “fake news” like almost everybody else did :)) I probably got a 3 because that was terrible.

Also, I think I have a “conspiracy theory” brewing about the third passage with the mother and daughter. The daughter is meant to represent the negative effects of social darwinism and the mother is meant to represent the “positive” effects of communism. The mother was painted as this happy, flowery figure who had a little inclination to lie and talk with people about their problems, while the daughter seems to be really depressed by comparing herself to a dying snail as she writes and worries about school. She states that she will likely never be like her mother as well. I don’t know about it, but it’s definitely been on mind.

Also, thanks for the birthday wishes.

@ak2018 Omg dude, I felt the same way about the AP Lang mcqs. It took me like 22 min to finish the first passage, second pasage was nice, third passage was kinda weird, and fourth one I couldn’t read at all and guessed 9 c’s for the mcqs there. For synthesis, I didn’t get to finish and only had one page and one source down, so that’s an L. For rhetorical analysis, I think I did fine lol. For argument, I wrote about the weirdest stuff. PM me if you’d like to know what I wrote about cuz I ain’t putting it up here lol

@ak2018 I forgot we have the same birthday!!! Happy belated birthday twin :slight_smile:
