I think I’m going to cancel my ACT score. I took a practice test and got a 33, but on the actual test I somehow ran out of time even on the English and math sections which has never happened to me
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I didn’t fill in a scantron for the practice tests. I just circled the letter which I guess saves more time than I had thought. Oh well. I can always retake.
@ucAdmirer You can delete your scores after you see them! I would just cancel any free score reports to colleges.
"To delete your scores for a particular test date, you must submit a written request. Provide us with your name and home address, and we will mail you a form to complete and return to us. We will then permanently remove your record for that test date from our files. All scores from that test date will be deleted.

@dietcig Thank you
Maybe I should just do that. I’m just really paranoid about UCs somehow finding the score being as they don’t allow score choice.
So my parents are planning on retiring next year and I just found out that, if they do, they will only be able to pay for textbooks, no tuition/room & board. I’m not exactly sure what I’m going to do. They will cosign loans, but I don’t think it would be wise for me to build up that much debt just for undergraduate school.
Do you guys know if any colleges with really good merit aid? Their current income is around 100k so I don’t think we qualify for very much need based aid.
@sewin2music Do you think you’ll get national merit?
@snowfairy137 I might, but I’'m not 100% sure. My selection index is 222, but I live in California so it’ll be really close. I’ve seen cutoff predictions between 221 and 223 for CA. How does national merit work? I know you’re supposed to select a university as first choice but are you supposed to just gamble and hope you get accepted into that university or can you name you’re first choice after decisions are released?
I think it’s after decisions are released. But cross your fingers! If you get it there’s some schools who will give you full tuition or even a full ride if you get nm! We’ll find out in September. But there’s other schools that will give a lot of scholarships based on test scores. You’ll just have to aim lower and look at safety more because they will pay for high scores.
Just finished packing for the Youth Tour in 9 and 1/2 hours. I’ve started my vlogging again!!!
@snowfairy137 Okay thank you!! I’m going to start looking into nm more and hope for the best!
@sewin2music Last year’s taxes will be used for our freshman year FA, so you should be covered for the first year, and 100k def. should get you some FA. However, for the long run try to find some solid merit aid. I’ve heard good things about Bama and Miami University’s Merit aid.
Was that the one from today? For me it was the opposite, I rocked the English/Reading but ran out of time on the math.
Oh, and on the essay, I accidentally started on the second page so for the first page I just drew a giant arrow and wrote “essay starts on next page”.
@sewin2music You are allowed to select your first choice school for national merit up until May 1st, and I think there is even a way to change it before that if you do select one earlier (which I wouldn’t recommend), so there is plenty of time to make your decision there.

@ucAdmirer According to test prep blogs and my counselor, colleges will not be able to see your deleted score if you didn’t use the free score reports. It’s nice to know that’s a free option. Also, just a tip, the UC website states that you only have to send scores to one UC and the rest of the schools you are applying to will receive them. I’m glad I read that because that can save my family some money. Which schools are you applying to? I’m applying to UCLA and Cal.
@sewin2music I would apply to a school with automatic scholarships like Bama as a safety. Schools with lots of potential merit and NMF money can be matches/reaches. Some schools ask for your test scores in their NPC. I know Arizona State gives full tuition scholarships to NMSF, NMF, and even students in the National Hispanic Recognition Program.
@RMNiMiTz The skipping thing happened to me before too. I just wrote Please Turn Over lol. I was nervous that it was going to be ignored.
Okay guys.
I’m about to leave for Youth Tour in 5 minutes!!! Yesterday was the start of summer for me, but today is the start of my epic summer program stuff. As promised, I’ve already started vlogging and will try my best to blog throughout the week.
I have the schedule for today, which seems really fun. We meet up at NOVEC, go out for lunch, go to a hotel in Arlington, do our orientation, go get dinner, and then go on a Potomac River Cruise. It’s about to be so awesome!!! I’ll update you guys at the end of the day.
@ak2018 Have fun! I can’t wait to hear about it!
It’s finally finals week for me, which means there’s only 1 week left of school!!! I’m so excited to be done because I have Girls State a week from today and I leave for SSP 2 weeks from today! I have such an amazing summer ahead and I’m excited for it to start!
I’m going to graduation in a few hours to watch my senior friends walk across the stage. I’m so proud of them and will miss them so much. I feel like I might cry!
Hello my fellow class of 2018 members,
I guess it is too early for this since the summer has just started for some of us or is about to, but does anyone have any idea about scholarships or merits. I want to apply early before I miss out any good opportunities. I do understand that most ppl get their scholarships from the schools they will go to in the end, but I think at this moment it might be too early. Plus all of these websites such as Chegg or FastWeb do not seem to give out credible places to get scholarships or have low chances. I mean there must be a place where students are able to get some sort of money, any amount…
I got a 1230 on my SAT from May, which is 10 less than my PSAT score, but I don’t really find myself caring that much. I’m not applying to any super selective colleges anyways.
My counselor talked to me last week and informed me that I couldn’t take Infectious Diseases like I had hoped, but scheduled to take an independent science study and I’m free to study whatever I want! It sounds kinda cool!
@wildguy57 websites like Fast Web and Chegg scholarship marchers are actually pretty good. I would also try Cappex. Any of these scholarships you will apply to will have thousands of students applying, thus lowering your chances of winning. It’s reality. It doesn’t hurt to try though.
There’s also many other full tuition/full ride scholarships you can look up that consider GPA, LOR, ECs and etc.
Graduation was today. Looking at all the pictures on Facebook and being like… wait? that’s us next year. Wow.
