High School Class of 2018

Hey, SAT subject test scores come out on Amazon Prime Day!

@acomfysofa when I took the practice tests in the blue book I could only get 1300s but on the actual test I got a 1460. So I’m almost positive the practice tests are harder than the real thing. Good luck and I’m sure you’ll get your goal score!!

@xxluvforeverxx how fun! If I do well, I’ll ask for a celebratory gift, and if I do badly, a consolation prize lol

Are any of you going to apply to UVA?

@doctornc I was looking into UVA but I would have to take up more debt than I like to, so I ditched it.

@doctornc I’m in the same boat as kassh but my parents really want me to get in… So I’ll just apply but I know for sure I won’t go even if I do get accepted…

Hey random question, but I’m going to a joint graduation party tomorrow. The party is combined for three people but IIm only friends with one so he was the one who invited me. Am i supposed to get gifts for all three? Its supposed to be a pretty big party but I don’t want to come across as rude

Get a personalized gift for the one you know and gift cards for the other two.

I graduated in May with the class of 2017, but I wanted to know if any of you have had experience with AP exam rescoring. I received AP scholar with distinction as a sophomore (2016), but this year I got 5 3’s and I know something is not correct.
Ps. Best wishes for your college applications!
PPs. I would look at good schools that offer credit for AP classes and good scholarship money. It’s cheaper and you have a better chance of standing out in your major. Plus, you will not have to deal with grade deflation.

@agentaquastar @kassh4 it is a beautiful school, but the atmosphere can be a little weird, according to some of the people I know who have visited. I would go if I got in, because it’s cheaper for me as an in-state student lol. Plus, living in northern va means UVA competition is rough

anyone still super confused about where to apply ED/EA/SCEA ?

Like every day it seems I have different ideas…I get really interested in a program, then I think about merit $…then I find another amazing program and read student profiles and get interested…then I think about $ again and question everything!

But I really want to get early responses and possibly a small boost to a selective program…but that boost comes with ED which also comes with debt…it’s a cycle of confusion lol

@LushLillies I have like 4 colleges on my list that either have regular early action or ridiculously early RA deadlines or are rolling so I’m just going to apply to those first. They are actually my first choices and are safetys/matches admissions wise.

On a side note, if any of you are interested in (relatively affordable) college counselors, there is a wonderful person named Marcella you can contact at helpwithapps.com. She helps out a lot on the Reddit forum for college apps, which is how I came to know her, and to my understanding she used to read applications for UChicago. If you decide to go ahead and work with her, when you contact her, please tell her that Othello referred you (so she will know you heard from me).

I sincerely hope I’m not breaking any forum rules right now. I tried to find a post for forum rules but could not find one.

@Wolfgangbread thanks for the referral! And I too certainly hope that you’re not breaking any rules…I haven’t been that long on this website to know that

@LushLillies I had to write out my private options like this:
Super Reach: Harvard - SCEA
Reach: Northeastern - EA
Match: American and George Washington: ED
Low Match: Fordham: EA
I rather use my “EA bullet” as I’ve seen it called on CC on Harvard than Northeastern. Early Decision is out of the question for me. That wouldn’t work for my family.

Also, I just got an email from John Hopkins about their diversity program and my parents said I could apply! I hope I can pull together my essay. I can’t get it to sound the way I want it to.

@JasmineArmani No problem. From my experience asking her questions and such, she’s incredibly knowledgeable and extremely nice. If I can convince my parents, I’m seriously considering hiring her as well. She’s pretty affordable as far as private counselors go, which is great for me.

@Wolfgangbread If you PM me her Reddit name and she is on r/A2C I can prob give her another positive review. I go on r/A2C a ton, so I know most of the people there.

Are any of y’all considering Rice? I took a tour this past week there and I really liked the campus and all the students I met seemed very happy and collaborative! It’s tucked in a pretty nice part of the city, but I’m just not really sure if I could see myself living in Houston. Maybe it’s my bias towards Dallas, but Houston isn’t really my cup of tea. But now I’m kind of getting worried because Rice was one of my top choices and I’m not so sure anymore.

@010323026877 I’m more biased towards Dallas as well but maybe you’ll end up liking Houston more? Have you spent a lot of time within the city? If you still love Rice you should still consider it. Houston is still a great city and Rice is an amazing school.

Is anyone using Coalition application rather than Commin App? UMD College Park is my flagship school, and they only accept coalition app, so I’m not even sure if I will bother with common app.
