I forgot about my July reading assignment for AP Lit. It’s due on my birthday so I need to do it this week. I just keep procrastinating on all of my summer work. I’ve been working 30 hrs a week so I just don’t have the motivation to do anything else.
@carmen00 So do you have to turn in certain parts of your AP Lit summer work throughout the summer? I’ve never heard of that, I guess it makes you more responsible in doing it over time instead of waiting until the month of school to start on your summer work.
@madison2000 we have three books which each have an essay that we need to write. One was due at the end of June, one at the end of July, and one at the end of August. Plus annotating and writing a summary for the book and researching info on the author, but that isn’t due until the class starts. It’s supposed to keep us “responsible” but idk I keep forgetting about my assignments.
@carmen00 I totally relate. Between my volunteer gig, internship, and job, my chem homework has just fallen by the wayside. I’m barely 1/4 done and I have a test on all the material on August 23.
So I don’t know if any of you would know this but for U of Alabama if you qualify for one of their scholarships (OOS) according to the website are you basically “guaranteed” into the school and the scholarship on the website?
@madison2000 Yea I think the scholarships are auto admit. If you get the scholarship I think you are automatically in.
@madison2000 yup! I emailed my regional rep for Bama and she said they don’t have a holistic approach to admissions. So if you have the GPA and test scores for scholarships, you’re in!
That saves me so much stress now, knowing I’m an auto admit to one of my top schools plus getting a really good scholarship. I have basically finished the application I just have a question for my guidance counselor about the whole college class section because I have taken local community college courses online this past year. Hopefully by the end of the end of the first or second week I can hit submit and get that off my chest.
I only have about three weeks until school starts and I still have to read 30 out of the 34(or so) chapters of Wuthering Heights, do my 200 problem Calc AB packet, and my AP Gov work.
Unfortunately, I had to drop APUSH. I’m kinda bummed bc I was really excited to take that class, but it’s okay. I also registered for one of my DE courses today. I’m going to be taking intro to comm. I was on campus today and just walking through it made me happy. I’m excited to start all my classes this year.
I’m surprised there are assignments for AP classes over the summer! Even with IB at my HS, which is known as the more strenuous program, they just tell you to relax over the summer.
I realized this morning that I pass by an architecture firm when I walk to volunteering. I really want to contact them and ask if I can learn anything/shadow… But I feel like that might be too out of bounds…? I don’t know how assertive I’m allowed to be…
@agentaquastar Give them a call, most likely a secretary will answer. Just ask if it’s something that is common and he or she may be able to answer your question. If anything they will say no and then you just move on. Better to get turned down and know than never ask and always wonder.
@madison2000 thank you! I’ll try shooting them an email or calling;;
Wrote my second common app draft. Slightly different topic because I’m just trying to see what works the best, and although its still not perfect, I like this one a lot better than my first one.
@agentaquastar I really recommend just going inside and establishing that personal connection early. It’s different seeing someone who “seems nice” in person than it is hearing a voice over the phone. Just walk up to the receptionist or something and say hi, you walk by everyday and have always wondered what’s going on in an architectural firm. Maybe ask to speak to an architect. Or wallow around in the entryway and accidentally “encounter” an architect while you’re just “looking around” to see what was inside.
Finally finished my first draft of my common app essay after trying desperately to make my first idea into a draft. I decided to change my idea, and wrote it within an hour or two! Giving it a bit and and then I’m going to go back for draft number 2!
@Marg532 I actually finished both my Common App essays, finally.
By the way, I’m trying to pick out which essay topic is better to write about. What do you think?
A (Prompt #1): Write about my appreciation of technology, my 5 years of Robotics experience, and tie it all in with a metaphor about me being a superhero.
B (Prompt #2): Write about me being a mock launch and orbital analyst during my time at the NASA Virginia Earth System Science Summer Academy, how I helped the team, and talk about my future NASA internship and working with NASA to potentially start research.
Personally, I like A if you can pull it off well. I feel like B might possibly be a bit of a reiteration of another part of your application, but obviously I can’t know for sure.
Edit: @ak2018
@Soccer1235 Thank you.
Also, I made a group chat for the Questbridge app. You know what to do!
@oPhilippos that’s really intimidating for me… It’s a good idea but idk if I can pull it off… I’ll try though. Thanks for the suggestion
