High School Class of 2018

@ak2018 yes if you have time! Khan academy saved my life last year in Calc;;

@Hamlon Congrats!

@aspiringgirl Congrats too! Which 2 schools have you gotten into?

@gigichuck

The school I got accepted to yesterday was Oklahoma State University. The one that I got accepted to last month was Oklahoma Baptist University.

I am only applying to one more in state school: The University of Oklahoma

Currently at UPitt right now. If anyone wants to apply to UPitt for free, PM me.

@aspiringgirl Can’t get more Oklahoma than that :wink:

Ugh!I’m not getting my class schedule for this year until senior orientation night which is only a few days before school actually starts.

Just got back from UPitt and I am in love with the school already! The people are so nice and in downtown Pittsburgh. The Engineering is a little harder than I expect to get into, but I think I should be okay! I got my app fee waived and I’m planning on finishing my app by tomorrow! Wish me luck! :smiley:

I’m also currently at a FRC match at CMU. Didn’t expect that to happen now, but ROBOTS are LOVE, ROBOTS ARE LIFE!

@agentaquastar Thanks. I’ll have about 16 days after I get back from SAMS!

Just finished my visit to Bama! I couldn’t make an official tour… But the campus is gorgeous and the facilities are all new and well equipped. I don’t think I would mind going, so it’s definitely a good safety! I’m going to apply sometime soon.

You guys all finishing your apps, what about your transcript and rec letters and essays and test scores (unless that’s already sent)? Basically, how’d you finish your essays so fast?

So after looking over college websites and combined knowledge already known and I replaced one of the SUNYs I was applying to with The College of Saint Rose. It became a contender because it is going to be really cheap with the automatic scholarships plus the micro scholarships I’ve accumulated from a website called raise.me. That’s not including any financial aid I get from outside scholarships or state/federal aid. I’m kind of nervous that I’m changing my mind so close to application, but I’m also excited because I wasn’t really excited about the SUNY.

@gigichuck I’m not quite done with my applications yet, but I’m almost done haha all I’m waiting on is mostly what you listed (transcript, rec letters, and other stuff from the school). I’m also working on editing my essay. I did get my first draft done really quickly because I sat down and wrote whatever came it of my head, pretty much.

My son is homeschooled, so as his counselor I have sent transcripts and rec letters (addresses or common app links to the recommenders). My son is done with Common App essay and is finishing his “why college?” supplement. He hopes to hit submit on 2 of the 4 tomorrow. The colleges that waived fees. The colleges that still have fees will wait until later this month.

@apraxiamom What Common App colleges is he considering?

Furman

So this has nothing to do with college, but there’s this new guy in my grade who has caught my eye because he has an amazing personality. How do I make friends with him? Would it be weird if I invite him to come with me and my friends to the movies on the weekend?

@xxluvforeverxx Is he in one of your classes? That would be an easy way to talk to him about the homework or maybe an upcoming test. If not then that would be a lot harder. Maybe if you have mutual friends you can ask you friend to hang out with you and your others friends and tell them that they can bring that guy with them.

@madison2000 Unfortunately, we don’t have any classes together this semester; however, he is in my homeroom, so I will be able to see him tomorrow. We also don’t have lunch together :(. Do you have any tips for bringing him into my friend group?

@xxluvforeverxx Most of the time you have to let these things happen organically or the friendships will feel forced. Maybe if there is a party or other social event that you know he’ll be there, then that could be an opportunity to get to know him.

I made a strict schedule for myself this week and I’m sincerely regretting procrastinating finishing my AP assignments until the week before they’re due haha

Just finished my VA tech visit!
The engineering dept is rly cool; there are so many labs and tech to work on all sorts of projects. I’m a little intimidated since most students and visitors all have wanted to do engineering since they were young, but I hopefully would learn a lot there… Seeing current students talking passionately about their projects is very motivating.
I also looked around their architecture dept. It’s gorgeous inside and exactly what I imagined for a studio. I’m still really torn between eng and arch… Tech has decent programs in both so hopefully it will work out.
