High School Class of 2018

I’m also scheduled to shadow an architect on the 10th so I think I’ll find out more then!

@agentaquastar Did you draw your profile picture? Me lo gusto.

@xxluvforeverxx I did! (pls don’t search too hard for me anywhere else haha) thank you!

I’m so excited because I just did one of the non-stressful things about being a senior. I scheduled my senior pictures! One of my classmates runs her own business and she’s willing to go traipsing in the snow with me this winter! I’m so excited!

@ski_racer o shoot I still haven’t done mine yet… Your friend sounds amazing! Have fun!!

I’m going on vacation soon! I’m ready to just lay on the beach for a week.

Summer has gone by so quickly. I can’t imagine how fast senior year is going to be.

I just scheduled my senior pictures too!! You’re lucky you can do yours in the winter, our school yearbook requires them in by October 31!!! @ski_racer

@lindsgal @ski_racer mine requires them by September 29th haha

@lindsgal @Marg532 My yearbook doesn’t let us use our own pictures! These are for grad announcements and my parents.

@lindsgal @Marg532 My yearbook doesn’t let us use our own pictures! These are for grad announcements and my parents. For us, everybody has to wear the sane outfit and have the same background.

I finally told my parents about my college list and outside scholarships, I plan on applying to. They had a pretty good reaction to all the schools and my dad is rooting for me to go to UTD so he can finally have an excuse to move to Dallas.

@ski_racer That sucks! I always loved looking in the yearbook at the senior pictures and daydreaming about how mine would be lol :))

I need advice y’all. Surprise, surprise, I have major scheduling conflicts for the third year in a row and it involves 4 classes this time. This school year, AP Chemistry and Music Theory are only offered 5th period, Calc BC is only offered 4th and 5th period, and my choir class is only 4th period. Since I am a Senior, I don’t really have any other classes to take except obscure ones I’d hate like business or Algebra 3(remedial math). I’m not even allowed to take Chemistry or Calculus for dual credit (rules and agreements with the local cc), so my only solution is to do three independent studies instead of just one for Physics C as I had planned.

Proposed Schedule:

  1. Orchestra
  2. AP Lit
  3. Free Period/Teacher’s Aide(Independent Study)
  4. Choir
  5. Music Theory
  6. Free Period/Teacher’s Aide (Independent Study)
  7. Science Mentorship (Online AP Physics C most days)

Not sure what colleges would make of it. My counselor told me to get rid of both Choir and AP Music Theory, but I really don’t want to do that. (Been in choir since Elem. School) I know the Calculus and Chemistry teachers pretty well, so I’d ask them for help (when needed) and textbooks. Is this a good idea? It sucks that I won’t have these classes on my transcript, but I think it’s better than taking 2 blow-off classes and having no math or science class.

@Hamlon I think you will be fine with any schedule you take. Just make sure you talk to your counselor and have him write that there were major conflicts in your schedule that you had no control of.

@kassh4 Thanks, this is all frustrating though! I really don’t understand why I have to endlessly jump through hoops to actually learn at school and not sit in boredom. It sucks.

On a similar note, does anybody happen to have any free resources for learning AP Physics C, Chem, or Calculus?

@Hamlon I would switch out Music Theory with Calculus or Chem. I’m guessing choir is more important to you and it’s going to be really hard to self study calc, chem AND physics. For calc though, Khan Academy is a good resource for practice.

@snowfairy137 Music Theory is also hard to learn, too. I’m not necessarily saying that it’s more difficult than calc and chem, but it’s really hard to learn theory in class, much less by yourself. I would say that all three are around the same difficulty to self study, so it’s really just a matter of what @Hamlon wants to take versus what they think they can self study. (at least in my opinion - I’ve never taken calc or chem, but I have taken (not AP) theory)

@marg523 I guess it depends on @hamlon 's goals, but I meant like drop music theory entirely, not self study. She asked for opinions.

@Marg532 Yeah, that’s what I was worried about. Music Theory is absolutely impossible without a teacher. I can wrap my head around math/science, but music theory get messy real fast.
@snowfairy137 If I dropped Theory and saved it for college, would you recommend taking Calculus or Chemistry in a class setting?

@hamlon depends on if you’re better at math or chem. Take the one you’re worse at in person. For me, that would be Chem but it might be different for you. If you haven’t taken honors chem, then definitely chem in person.
