@ascholar13 welcome!!! <3 Thanks for joining us!
@ak2018 What’s the youth advisory council? that sounds interesting!
@xxluvforeverxx I think you’re good to apply.
@lindsgal The Youth Advisory Council is a council established by The College Board and DoSomething.org. The council consists of around 90 incredible students from across the US, and abroad, who are passionate about education and dedicated to improving all the elements of the high school experience to better serve the needs of students from all backgrounds.
We’re on the lookout for phenomenal students who are:
– In 10th Grade, 11th Grade, 12th Grade, or their first year of college as of August 2017
– Have taken or are planning to take the PSAT, SAT, or ACT and/OR are current, former, or future AP students and/or use Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy
– Are passionate about improving the college planning process to make higher education more accessible to all young people
– Can commit 30-45 minutes every two weeks from August 2017 to January 2018
But, WHAT would I even have to do as a student advisor?
– Complete 15-30 minute online survey every other week
– Participate in two 1 hour Google Hangout discussions during the 6 month period
**** Highly involved members may also have some AWESOME opportunities. Past opportunities have included participating in news interviews about preparing for college, receiving invitations to serve as a student ambassador at College Board conferences and being featured on College Board social media.
WHY should I care?
The College Board is trying to clear a path for students on the road to college. This means they need YOUR ideas on how to make it happen! In the process, student advisors also get to develop business skills such as decision-making, teamwork, and idea incubation.
Hi all,
If any of you are taking/planning to take AP Calc BC, DM me. I have finally motivated myself to take pictures of all of my (detailed) notes and exams and will upload them to a google drive folder where all my friends and possible CC people can access them.
Today was my Senior Sunrise and wow it was amazing!! If you guys have one, you should definitely go! Waking up at 4:30am was seriously worth it! Take pictures and spend time with your friends! This is our last year so take advantage of all of the events! (this is coming from a very non-ASB person!)
@sewin2music What did you guys do at Senior Sunrise? I’m helping organize it this year and usually it’s really bad and I was wondering what I could do to make it better
@oPhilippos We first got a balloon at check in to write a quote, goal, etc (more on that later). Then had a “write a letter to your self booth” for goals for senior year and what you’re looking forward to this year. These are going to be redistributed at senior sunset at the end of the year! Then we signed a grad robe, voted for grad night location, and voted for class song. There was also a mural to take pics with friends. We also had a big breakfast bar/buffet with eggos/syrup, different types of cereal, milk, apple juice, orange juice, TONS of pastries, and bagels with cream cheese. Right before sunrise, ASB revealed the prom theme and then we released our balloons at the same time. The balloon thing really got to me like we are SENIORS guys!!!
I think the most important thing to having a good senior sunrise is the turnout. If there aren’t a lot of people, it won’t feel very significant or exciting! My favorite part was just having the time to hang out with my friends. This really made me realize how short the time we have left is and made me appreciate this THAT much more!
Hey everyone! I used to be on this thread like last year but I had to stop because my junior year was pretty rough. Anyway, where has everyone applied to? I’ve done six of my applications out of about twenty I’m planning on sending in (less if I get into University of Pittsburgh)
So far I’ve done Grand Valley State University (ultra-safety school but still afraid I won’t get in), Arizona State, Alabama, University of Pittsburgh, NYU (ahh!!!), and University of Michigan. Now I’m working on some summer homework and praying I get into literally any college. Is anyone else freaking out?
School starts on Monday for me and my Schedule still has not been released. I shouldn’t be surprised because this is typical for my school to release them the day before, but I’m so anxious to see it.
hey fam what’s good! does anyone know when nmsf cutoff comes out? i’ve heard august/september but i was wondering if anyone knew a more specific date. also does anyone know how they announce it?
@gormar099 From what I’ve seen on CC, homeschoolers start getting results around Aug 28-31. On a website in relation to navigation, (search “psat semifinalist 2018”, first link on Google), Art will post the cutoffs as results are submitted on there too. These results are unofficial and given by the people who just want to give back to the community. The entire list of cutoffs are typically compiled, at the latest, Aug 31.
You may get your results from your high school principle around the time that the homeschoolers do but it usually takes the formal high schools longer to get the results out to their students, hence the use of crowd sourcing. Results go through the schools, not to you personally, unless you are homeschooled
The press release last year was Sept 14 so I’m guessing it will be around that time this year too. This release included all of the students names and the cutoff scores for each state to make semifinalist(I think).
My apologies if this was confusing. Just ask if you need clarification! Please correct me on any errors; this is just what I’ve found from researching NMSC Scholarship all summer.
@sewin2music made total sense. thanks! appreciate it
So tomorrow begins my last full week of summer and I have a lot of work to do. I’m planning on reading about 43 pages/day of The Poisonwood Bible from now until next Sunday. I actually emailed one of the AP Lit teachers at my school and she said that we are getting a two-week grace period. I’m still trying to write my UPitt supplemental essays, should have them finished tonight, and having them edited by my Matriculate advisor soon. I plan to take a practice SAT tomorrow as well as continuing to self study Calculus. I also need to work on my AP Physics C and Calc BC assignments, but I’ll probably save them for my last weekend.
Ok y’all. I thought I had my independent study situation figured out but my principal said no to two teacher’s aide periods. I could only do one. My only option w/out dropping choir is to take a College Transition course. I’ve finished testing and already started my college apps, so I won’t really be doing much of anything the entire year let alone the semester. I figured I’d be able to work on my online class. My concern is that it might bring down my gpa bc it’s not weighted although I’ve heard it’s a free 100(would still bring down my gpa, but not by much). Should I take it?
@Hamlon I would say yes. Even if it only brings your GPA down slightly, the class would give you a much needed break during the school day to work on your online class or college apps, which you’ll probably end up thanking yourself for later.
@ak2018 lol I’m in the same boat, I’ve been studying German and C and putting off my actual summer work. Three books for AP Lit in 2 weeks, what a way to start things off!
.
Just realized I accidentally posted in the Class of 2018 and not 2019. Oops.
omg… I just did 3 passages and 32 questions from the April 2017 SAT, and I got 31/32 questions correct

Would like to thank the 2017 SAT Black Book answer explanations for this, and for the Maine Department of Education for releasing a 9th SAT Practice Test :))
EDIT: This is for the reading section btw
