High School Class of 2018

My friend just sent in all his college applications… HOW??? I finished editing my common app essay, but that’s it. I’m waiting for my ACT score so I can send in a couple applications, but the rest of mine require a bunch of essays that I haven’t had time to start yet. It’s stressing me out. I have so much stuff to do over the next couple months including extracurriculars, college classes, AP English, and applications. The only thing I don’t have to worry about is my calculus class. I got a 96 on my first test in there, and I’ understanding the chapter we’re doing now, so that’s good. I’m so stressed. Ugh.

@carmen00 I haven’t started my Common App essay yet. We’re going to be doing them in my AP Literature class either next week or the week after, so I’m waiting to do it then. I don’t have too much to worry about right now since I’m only applying to my safeties EA. I am taking the ACT, SAT, and SAT Subject tests within the next three months, though, so I have that to worry about. And also the fact that I have 6+ college applications due within 3 days of each other (most on the same day) for RD. :-SS

I finished editing my common app essay! I’m reallllyyy happy with it. I was surprised how passionate I actually was when I wrote it!

I also sent in my ACT scores to the colleges I’m applying to today. I decided on 13 schools total! Glad I narrowed it down from the 22 I originally was interested in lol. It’s still a lot, but a more realistic number financially. Just sending the ACT scores alone was almost $175 for 13 schools!

Here are the schools I’m applying to in order of how much I want to go to them:

  1. Univ. of Southern California (REALLLYYY want to go here ;) )
  2. UCLA
  3. UC Irvine
  4. Loyola Marymount
  5. Chapman
  6. Univ. of San Diego
  7. CSU Long Beach
  8. Northeastern
  9. Boston U
  10. Vanderbilt
  11. Univ. of Central Florida (Tied w/ UM)
  12. Univ. of Miami (Tied w/ UCF)
  13. Univ. of Florida

I think my list ended up being fairly well rounded, one focused in on what I specifically want from my college. My application is pretty much done for schools that don’t require extra essays (UM, UCF), and I’ll start sending them in as soon as I talk to my guidance counselor! (We haven’t had school in almost 2 weeks because of Irma, so I have a few questions about how recommendations work, etc. through the common app.) Wish me luck!

Having to dig deep while writing these supplemental essays has made me realize how easy is to get lost in these AP classes, test prep and the general the limbo of senior year.

To anyone feeling like you are being crushed under the weight of your personal expectations (and the expectations of others) just remember that in a few months all of your hard work will pay off!

Ahh! I talked to my dad and he’s willing to pay for half of an iPhone 7 (I’ll pay the other half with some of my summer earnings) as a 18th birthday and Christmas present (aren’t December birthdays nice :/)! I’ve only had crappy android phones (like the cheap ones, not the nice ones) so far so I’m really excited for December and to have a phone with a nice camera, enough storage space, and is waterproof for college!!

Not trying to brag just wanted to share my excitement. I don’t often get new technology bc my parents are pretty stingy about that sort of thing.

Stressing out about my ACT scores, Questbidge Application, Common App Essay, and my teacher for my morning classes is horrible at staying on schedule and she is behind in everything, :frowning: Senior year is rough.

I heard you don’t have to submit ACT/SAT score at the time of application, the school will ask you to submit the score when they decide to admit you so that will save you few bucks there, but is it true?

@newHSmom No, that’s only true for a select few schools.

@newHSmom maybe if your scores are on your official transcript, then they may only require it from the testing agency when you’re accepted.

So I’m surviving on barely any sleep and I have 4 tests within the next three days… I’ll let you know if I survive.
Grades right now are the following
AP Art History - 88 (test tomorrow)
DE College Algebra - 103 (test tomorrow)
AP English Lit - 100 (we had an essay that we’ll be getting back tomorrow but it’s not in the computer as of now)
DE Personal Finance - 100 (only thing we did is 1 quiz and we have a test coming up)
AP Chem - 94 (lol this is NOT gonna stay like this, I got a straight 0 on a 7 point practice FRQ and we have a test Thursday)
AP Gov - 96
AP Macro - 90

Sorry for any incoherence, I’m in the process of dyi

@r2v2018 you’re doing great! Good luck on your tests!

Also I signed up for the oct sat a while back but I haven’t studied at all and uuuuuuh… Does anyone have tips on what to study? Particularly for math. I’ve already done the official tests last year though so I’m not sure where to go from here.

Ah I was just approved to start my gold award…!!

Thank you @gigichuck @snowfairy137 for your reply.

It’s like literally everyone in the world got a 1500+ on the August SAT but me

Well, 99%+ got less than 1500…if it makes you feel better.

@snowfairy137 I have an iPhone 7. They’re really nice. The only downside is that there isn’t a headphone jack, which makes trying to listen to stuff while your phone is plugged in a little difficult.

Studying to take the SAT again!

just got my ACT score! I scored a 33  I was shooting for a 32 so this is really nice.
English: 33
Reading: 35
Math: 35!!! The curve must be super generous. I must have been blessed by the ACT gods when I guessed.
Science: tba. The website is glitching and no one has their science scores. I did the math so I know I scored around a 27-30

Time to write a religon essay I should’ve wrote this weekend! I spent my Sunday recovering from the mosh pit at the concert I went to Saturday night lol

Did Howard University delete the merit scholarships list from their website?
cc: @Hamlon

@frazzledazzle that’s true, but when my phone is plugged in I’m usually on my laptop anyway lol
