High School Class of 2018

@Hamlon Thank you. I actually figured that out a few hours ago.

Do you guys ever worry that you might end up at your safety school due to not getting enough financial aid? I am worried I will end up at mine. I did get accepted into their best program and I got a pretty awesome scholarship, but I always thought I would end up somewhere big and more prestigious.

Nah, I like my saftey school.

Same. I even like my safety school a bit more than some of my academic matches

@julia35002 I only applied to places where I felt I could both see myself getting in and see myself going to if financials didn’t work out somewhere else. That’s why I only applied to 5 colleges, and compared to here they’re pretty ā€œlower tierā€ colleges. But I think I would love being at each and every one of them! I’m mostly scared of committing to one. I’ve gotten accepted to 3/5 already, and my parents (being parents) feel that two more acceptances are on their way. I don’t even know how which way I would go with the three that I have now, much less adding another one, or even two more, onto the list to be decided.

@julia35002 I really love my safety and also am worried about money so I didn’t really consider ones I couldn’t afford… I know some value prestige more than others, but try to remember that many would be so happy to be in your position right now  I’m sure you’ll turn out fine anywhere as long as you keep working hard.

I really like my safety too! It’s UCF, and despite it’s rank, I think it’s the best school in Florida, and would he super excited to go there! I can only go to my first choice Califoria schools if I get realllyyy good merit aid, so I’d say there’s about a 85% chance I’ll be at UCF, and a 5% chance I’ll be at USC, 5% Loyola Marymount, and 5% Chapman. I’m gonna hope for the best of luck with merit aid, but if not I know I’ll love UCF (and having no debt

My safety is Alabama, which I love! I mean, for a northern girl, I have a lot of country in me (bc who doesn’t in suburban PA?) and I love football. I like large schools and school spirit. Plus, it has a good PR program. It’s also the most affordable school on my list. I love my safety and will probably end up going there.

Talking about Bama, did anyone else get invited to Capstone Scholars Day? I’m probably going to go because that’s exactly when my family was planning on visiting anyway. Good timing! Plus, free tshirt lol.

Thanks, everyone! All of your opinions honestly made me feel a lot better about this.

So something weird happened with one of my applications. I applied to OSU Newark and sent in my test scores and transcripts and everything, and instead of my application status changing to evaluation it changed to inactive? ā€œThis application is no longer considered active. You have chosen not to attend Ohio State for this semester, campus or program.ā€ Like bruh what. And oddly the term changed to Summer 2018 when I know for a fact I applied for Autumn 2018. Sooo I guess I have to call the admissions office today and see if someone made a mistake in updating my application. It shouldn’t be that big of a deal, but I’m just like pls stop making my life difficult @universe.

Did anyone else apply to Reed? I applied over a month ago and I still don’t have access to a status portal.

Edit: I guess they have enough to deal with right now.

Please guys, check your portals! I ran into one school that didn’t have my ACT scores that I sent in September 2016. I had to call them and email them the tracking number and they eventually got everything lined up.

So I spent most of last night finishing my essays for the Prudential Spirit of the Community Award and filing out my FAFSA! Currently running on no sleep!

I’m also pretty excited to go on my field trip to Howard University’s philosophy department! Has anyone been? What’s it like? Anything I should look for?

I had a debate meet today! I went against two of the easier teams, which was different. Usually the first debate is against two of the hardest teams in the league. I got high scores on my speeches and my answers while being questioned, which is good.

I had way too much coffee today though so i had a stomachache through both debates. Ugh.

Just got my Temple decision! Accepted! Ahhh I’m loving these acceptances. Just waiting for one school to break the streak lol.

I just finished my interview! I was nervous but I really got into it. I just talked about my experiences in academics and my passions, and I felt very comfortable. Thank you again so so much!! @Hamlon

Now that my USC and LMU applications are in the next 1-2 months will be spent praying for a full/almost full scholarship  I know it’s very unlikely, and I’ll be happy at UCF if I dont get it, but hey, praying never hurt no one.

Hey everyone! Wow, I haven’t been on this since before school even started I believe.

Congrats to all on good interviews, good test scores, and acceptances, whooo!!!

Quick question…did you guys tend to submit your apps as you finished them or right before the deadline? I have many apps that I have finished (some college don’t require any writing supplements and others had some that I reused) but they aren’t due until January 1st…should I wait to submit? Or submit now? I’m 80% sure I won’t be making any changes, I haven’t entered any new competitions?

@LushLillies I think it’s fine to submit now. I know someone who submitted all his apps in September. It doesn’t matter as long as you know that there will be nothing else to add to your app such as leadership positions or competitions. Hitting that submit button is such a relief.
