So I got a css fee waiver from Stanford, but that means they’ve started looking at apps, and mine is still missing transcript and recs. I may move it to RD in one week if it still isn’t complete.
Are you guys done with testing? I still have December subject tests.
I love reading you guys’ updates. Makes me feel I’m not alone in all this stress.
I got accepted into the University of West Florida for B.S. in Computer Science! Now that I know I won’t be going to community college I am so much less stressed.
@nerdalert18 I know a lot of people who applied to Temple and are doing premed, but all of them agreed that they weren’t ready to commit to the health scholars program because they didn’t want to feel tied down to a specific med school.
Good luck! It’s a good program, especially if you get to do accelerated.
I’m excited to go on my second college visit! I’m visiting SUNY Fredonia, who have already accepted me. I hope to see whether I could see myself going there, especially because it’s a NY college and we all know how winters get up here - either unusually warm or freezing cold. Visiting in November when it’s already started to snow will probably be a good thing, as I can navigate the campus in cold weather and possibly snow/ice conditions. If it is difficult (like a lot of hills and a small amount of parking lots, for example), it might be something to consider when making my decision. That being said, a lot of the teachers I’m close to are graduates from Fredonia, and all they’ve done is rave about it.
So my day at Howard yesterday was pretty great and really changed my perspective of HBCUs. Our bus driver did get us lost in DC for about half-an-hour, but we eventually got onto campus. I’m just gonna say that I definitely did feel a little empowered on the campus itself. We met an alumni of my high school and she gave us a tour and then went into the philosophy department. We met a pretty interesting professor and even got to sit in on his Philosophy 101 class. We were lectured on the topic of constructs and I really enjoyed it. Since it was a small class and there were quite a few of us, we actually got to participate and answer questions. I like how he actually used his experiences with microagressions pertaining him being an African-American man that graduated from Harvard to relate to us. After that, we got lunch from the nearest McDonalds and got back on the bus. I’m actually really excited to go to Georgetown in two weeks!
I have officially finished 50% of my college apps!
This would be more impressive if
a) It wasn’t November
b) I wasn’t only applying to two in-state, not-ultra-selective (roughly 40-50% acceptance rates) public schools.
Anyhow, when it comes to my classes, things have gone unexpectedly well. I did manage to pull all As first quarter, but two of them were really low (91s), in AP Art History and AP Chemistry. APAH is going pretty well, but I’m just trying my damnedest to get a 90 in AP Chem for the quarter and a strong enough grade on the midterm where I’ll get an A for my S1 grade, because I heard that my top choice (UF) gets midyear reports before they actually make their admissions decisions–I don’t want them to think I have senioritis, even if that might be true. Overall, I’m not too worried because AP Chem is the only class I feel as if I have a risk of getting a B in this semester.
Also, based on my experiences with Spanish IV so far, I’m horrified for Intermediate Spanish (equivalent to AP Spanish Language) when I go to college next year. I was going to take the CLEP to be exempt from Beginning Spanish I and II, but in hindsight, I don’t feel prepared at all, especially considering I want to major in Spanish.
@r2v2018 UF doesn’t require and will not review your midyear grades. They only consider the SSAR. If you get accepted, they will require that you send a final transcript, at the end of the school year. If you do poorly your senior year, UF could rescind the offer, but I wouldn’t worry about a few B’s.
The only exception is with the senior classes you’ve listed in your SSAR. If you make any schedule changes, after submitted your SSAR, UF wants to be notified of the changes.
Other schools you may be applying too could consider your midyear grades!
That’s reassuring. I really wasn’t planning on getting many unusual grades this year, but AP Chemistry can be a very scary class, and I’m sure others on this thread would vouch for that.
The worst part is when I see the FRQs and I feel disoriented and I don’t know how/where to begin (this happened to me on the first two exams, but luckily, not the third) and I panic, thinking that I would get a 0 for half of my test grade because I would blank out and not fill anything in. Thankfully, that has yet to happen to me, and I’ve always done okay on each of the exams (passing with 3s and 4s). It doesn’t help that it’s been a long time since I took Honors Chemistry and there are kids in my class (mostly juniors) who took it last year. On the most recent exam, I forgot completely about IMFs and Lewis Structures, but I believe I remembered everything else correctly.
@ski_racer We get Wednesday through Monday off. Wednesday so people can travel for Thanksgiving and Monday because 50% of my school would take off to go hunting anyway. Plus, gotta get those Cyber Monday deals.
I’m going to community college and uni and get Thursday and Friday off. One of my classes is cancelled for Wednesday, but I still have to attend the others.
I had two hours today that I had nothing to do while at Lehigh so I pumped out two essays and finished another. They still need to be edited, of course, but I’m just happy I was able to start them.
My AP English class is getting a little out of hand. On Friday, she told us she wants us to read an entire book by Wednesday. So… no one is actually reading because we all have too much other work to do. On top of that, we have daily quizzes on two chapters of this one book. It’s a good book, but why do we need daily quizzes? How am I supposed to read one book in less than a week when we have to read another and be quizzed on it? Idk I mean we haven’t done too much in that class and now she’s throwing it all at us at once and it’s too much. I just wish I would have known in advance because it’s a really busy week (and month for that matter).
My calculus class is actually my best class at the moment. Math just clicks for me. Plus, it’s pretty collaborative and I learn better when I explain my work to others. Considering some people are failing that class, I’d say I’m doing pretty well.
I’m just so ready for this semester to be over. On the bright side, my college classes end in a month. My one professor is literally a week away from having her baby so we’ll just be working on our final project during class time after Thanksgiving break. Everything major is due on Thursday, so it won’t be too bad after that. I can’t wait until that month where I literally only have two classes and I’m done by 11 lol.
Does anyone else have a bunch of deadlines around December 1? A lot of schools require the app by then so you can be considered for merit scholarships. Ugh.
@carmen00 oh geez, I have so many December 1st deadlines it’s not even funny. Washington and Lee wants the whole application by then for consideration for the Johnson scholarship, and that’s the deadline for like every honors college too. Of course that’s also the weekend for the scholarship interview at a local LAC so I have a couple less days to finish…
I have a half day Monday and then the rest of the week off.
What should I do if my ACT portal still has my status as registered? I really want to get my scores soon so I can decide if I need to register for the December ACT by Friday.
I’m cutting my CU Boulder application close by starting my supplement today. After that, RD applications! :-SS
