High School Class of 2018

I got a full tuition scholarship to Temple! As amazing as that is, it it going to make my decisions even harder. I was expecting to end up at Bama because of the scholarship money. I haven’t visited either yet, so I’ll have to see. I never thought I’d get that much money from Temple, especially because their scholarships aren’t automatic.

@frazzledazzle If you’re still registered, the only thing you can do is wait. Scores are released every Friday (?) and Wednesday, I think. If you’re not confident about the Oct. testing date, then register for the Dec. one, because you might not get your scores before the registration closes.

So I finished my Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship at 11:59:59am because I love the thrill! :))

I’m going to go ahead and post some scholarship links in a hour or two, because I’m a good person :)) , so you guys can have a look. Do you guys think we should start posting scholarship links that aren’t too competitive or well-known? I’m all for it! I just filled out my FAFSA and while I’m getting a decent amount of money, my parents are pretty much requiring to get at least one decent scholarship if I want to go OOS.

@ak2018 I’m on the scholarship search, too. My EFC is just high enough not to qualify for a Pell Grant, because my mom still had her job when that year’s taxes were done. I have some decent offers from some colleges, but I have to pay for college myself (no help from parents :(( ) so I’m looking for as much money as possible from almost anywhere. Very desperate haha

oh my god i cant stand the wait for early decisions to come out! so, so torturous…

Just finished application 2/2; I just have to send in my test scores by December 15.

@friendfiend Neither of the colleges I applied to have early decisions, so it looks like I’ll be in the dark until February. In the meantime, I’m hoping the best for everyone on this thread.

When it comes to school, it’s been the same as always. AP Macroeconomics is starting to get on my nerves, even with AC/DC Econ and Princeton Review. I always think I’m doing well on Module/Chapter tests and I walk out with Cs. It’s my lowest grade right now (89) and since it’s an online course, I’m about to be finished with it. Luckily, I can just resubmit assignments (not tests) a million times, so I think I can secure an A for myself. I still think AP Macro might be the first AP exam I’m not gonna do so well on, though.

Lol, guess an hour or two turned into a day or two :))

Well here are the scholarship links I promised:

I’ll post more later, probably Friday. Now that I’ve officially dropped AP Psych, I have a study hall (which is really a teacher aide position) to work on scholarship and colleges apps. I, unfortunately, did not get the Prudential Spirit of the Community Award nomination since someone beat me to it. That’s what I get for waiting until the last minute. :))

@ak2018

Aww, I enjoyed AP Psych last year. Anyhow, I’d like to have a study hall myself. The closest thing I have is a DE class on my HS campus that basically consists on a bunch of spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations, but I don’t get much work done in there. When I am working, I’m usually studying frantically for AP Chem the following period. Sometimes, I complete some FLVS work too, but never anything substantial.

Speaking of FLVS, I am finding it SO hard to stay motivated right now in finishing those courses. I’m almost done with both AP Gov and AP Macro, but I seem to be lagging behind recently.

Submitted the Robertson’s at Duke @ 11:59 exactly. Crazy. :))

Submitted my UWashngton application a whole 3 hours before the deadline… go me!

@r2v2018 I actually throughouly enjoyed Psych as well, but ultimately found out the hard way that the workload was a little too much and I was getting pretty below average grades because I didn’t study enough as I’m already taking 4 other AP classes. I would honestly love to take Psych as a GenEd credit in college, but I just feel like now is probably not the time to take it. It’s a shame too. We were just getting into Sigmund Freud’s psychosexual theory and that was so weirdly interesting in it of itself.

Also, I can relate so bad to your AP Chem comment. Worst AP class I’ve ever taken! Good luck though.

Looks like I’ll be doing 4 lessons of College Algebra AND an AP Chem packet over Thanksgiving break…Have any of you guys’ teachers loaded you up with homework as well?

Also, @ak2018

I will never forget the day where an administrator walked in for an unannounced teacher evaluation when the PowerPoint lecture just so happened to be opened to a slide covering the “anal stage” of psychosexual development. I felt horrible for my poor teacher; that was some awful luck.

Hey guys.

I’m applying to USC before the Dec 1 deadline but I’m also taking the Dec ACT. My current SAT score sucks but it’s all I have.

  • Do I have to send in SOME score with my application by Dec 1 or is it fine as long as I chose USC as my first choice for priority report? (Sending scores before I see them)
  • If I submit both my SAT and ACT (before I see the score), will they consider the higher of the two?

Thanks!

Accepted to Bowling Green State University!

So I have officially been accepted to all of my safety schools! UNM, Alabama, Temple, and PSU! I hear back from Emerson next month, and then I have to wait until spring for USC, BU, and Syracuse. That wait is killing me and I haven’t even submitted my applications yet. Ugh.

I had my first interview yesterday! It was for Yale. I was scared of not being able to find my interviewer and it being too cold. We met in Bryant Park, which is too huge to consider asking any adult male in the vicinity if he was my interviewer. However, he texted me with a landmark & what he was wearing last minute, and it wasn’t as windy as I anticipated. I can’t really ascertain how well the interview went because it was my first one, but we had similar interests – he was a double major in English/Theater, part of the Yale Political Union, worked for a literary journal, etc. He seemed impressed with the lit journal I run & my work at the Guggenheim.

I felt very in control of the conversation – I opened by saying I’m passionate about creative writing, art, and social activism, and then narrowed on each of the three. He asked me some oddball questions, which I had to take about 30 seconds to think on before responding. (He also didn’t explicitly ask “Why Yale,” but I implicitly answered it when he asked me what I’m looking for in college.) He was too experienced to say anything about my chances, but I felt the fact that he was recommending different opportunities for me to check out if I go to Yale showed that he could see me there.

I got accepted into the University of Cincinnati! A lot of my friends got their OSU decisions this week, but I’m a little worried because they still don’t have my letter of recommendation.

@papaya12 I applied REA to Stanford and they still don’t have a single rec letter :))

Accepted (on-site) to Adelphi University!

Hey ya’ll, long time no see. My last post was in 2016 LOL. Anyway, I got accepted to Penn State with a renewable $25k scholarship + another top university in Canada. However, I’m waiting on Stanford REA. My first choices are all in Canada but Stanford is more for funsies. I don’t think I would attend even if I got accepted.

Anyway, how’s life? I’m trying not to fail lol but I’m basically failing chemistry right now #IBproblems
