I got into u of m today!
Umich deferred a ton of college of engineering people @lindsgal
It’s my birthday!
@gigichuck happy birthday!!! Have a great day
Hey Guys. This is something I’ve been meaning to say for a while, but I am so glad everyone is applying and getting accepted to non-Ivy schools and are pretty happy with them. Like, two years ago we were so set on that Ivy League or nothing mentality and now I’m seeing so many of you being happy that you got into your state schools! I hope this happiness continues because this thread, and the fact that I just saw 30+ of my friends getting into their dream schools, is really make this college app season great!
Break started (yay) but I still have to turn in two assignments tonight. Probably going to spend lots of time on scholarships now
Today was the last day of school before break! In my calc class, we played pictionary the entire time. In AP English, we watched a couple episodes of The Office lol. Some kids from the next class over heard it playing and came over, so our classroom was overflowing with people watching The Office.
I’m so excited to be on break, but unfortunately, my parents are off all week. Not that I don’t like being with them, it’s just that I have a few essays to write and a research paper to finish, and all they want to do is go shopping and watch tv. Like, I’ll be doing homework, and they’ll ask why I’m in my room. If I do it in the living room, they talk to me constantly and have the tv blaring, and it’s distracting. I’m excited to go to college so I don’t have them as distractions.
Hey guys, I haven’t stopped by here in a while, but I got into Yale SCEA!!
I just wanted to give a shoutout to @ak2018 because he was indirectly responsible for my acceptance. A lot of you might see him talking about the CMU SAMS program, which I attended after he encouraged me to apply. Coming from an underserved public school in MN, the program opened up many doors for me and helped me get into Yale.
Besides that, I’m so happy to hear about all of your acceptances! Going through these pages fills me with excitement for all that is yet to come. I hope you all find schools that fit you and fulfill you as learners and I wish you all the best on your college journeys.
Until I eventually find my way back to this thread,
-Matt
@FreePariah Thank you so much Matt!! You and Andrew have both said that to me now. I guess I really did make an impact! You literally deserve to go to Yale and hope you prosper and thrive no matter where you. When you said “Yale or nothing” and you really meant it! It’s everyday someone tells me was partially responsible from them getting into Yale! :)) Make sure to thank Ms. Walton too.
@gigichuck Happy belated birthday BTW!!
Due to Irma (and the consequential school closings), the second marking period has been extended to early January for my school, meaning most of my final 1st semester grades won’t be released for about three more weeks. A few of my grades throughout the year have been very borderline (90-92 range), so needless to say, I’m shook.
Please Help!!!
I submitted my FAFSA in October but I have been getting emails from Mount St. Mary’s which say this
"We have received a copy of your 2018-19 FAFSA. However, it has been Rejected by the Federal processing center for the reason(s) listed below. We encourage you to review your FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov and make the necessary corrections.
REJECT REASON(S):
The FAFSA needs to be signed by the student and the parent. The student and one parent need to create an FSA ID (Username & Password). Click on the FSA ID icon at the top of the page. This will allow you and your parent to sign the FAFSA form electronically."
I don’t know what to do. I’ve gone in and signed my FAFSA but they keep sending this to me, it’s the third time. I’m scared I won’t qualify for aid now. I really need responses or suggestions because my FAFSA deadline for UMD is January 1st.
Thanks!
You need to have your parent sign it too.
@lycoris A few suggestions:
1.The MSM Financial Aid page says that their FAFSA deadline is March 1st
“In order to be considered for need-based financial aid, you must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In order to meet the March 1 deadline, we encourage you to submit the forms no later than February 15” So you definitely want to contact financial aid directly as soon as they reopen after the holiday.
- If you Google the issue, there are a number of sites that talk about waht to do when ou get this 'signature rejected' email..... One of the options is sending in a printed signature page.
- This Help Link on the FAFSA website says the following:
"What if my signature gets rejeted for missing signatures? You can supply missing signatures in one of the following ways: *Click Login on the home page to log in to FAFSA on the Web. *Click 'Provide Signatures', and follow the instructions provided on the page to sign your FAFSA with an FSA ID. (If you choose to sign with an FSA ID and do not already have an FSA ID, you can create an FSA ID.) *If you choose not to create an FSA ID, you can print a signature page, sign it, and mail it to the address provided. **Talk to the financial aid office at your college to see if they can correct the situation electronically.
Try some of the above options. When I googled it, a lot of diffferent colleges address this as one of their help questions on their financial aid help pages.- so I really think the Financial Aid office will be familiar with the problem.
***But definitely try to go in and sign again. OR - Try this: sign in, make a correction to your fafsa (even if you change a number and change it back). That will force you to re-sign once again and maybe that time, it will accept the ‘new’ signature. Anytime you make a fafsa corrrection, you will get an email saying they’ve received the correction and it will take several days to process. Then, in several days, you’ll get another email saying the correction was accepted and processed.
I hope that some of these help. Definitely google the problem though - this seems to come up often.
@Phantomlink I did have my parent sign, but I continue to receive notices.
@Southern5062 Thank you! I will try that out and let you know if it works.
I somehow received a 34 on the December ACT after only receiving a 31 on the ACT I took two months ago. I’m so shocked and happy. My goal score going into the December test was only 32, and the highest my goal score has ever been is 33. I received a 34 on a practice test once, but that was because I gave myself a few extra minutes on the reading and science section, so I’m not exactly sure how this happened. Gee, maybe I was lucky.
Does anyone else’s family never have good Christmases? Like, I don’t remember ever having a Christmas where no one was sick, no one was hospitalized, no one stormed out in a fit of rage, no one needed to get stitches, no one cried, and no one died.
@ski_racer My parents are opposed to celebrating (and they are Christian), so we don’t even have get-togethers. I’m usually sick around Christmastime, though.
@ucAdmirer Great score! So you’re probably done?
My Christmas this year was trash, due to fighting, burning myself and getting yelled at, and having a panic attack about paying for college, as I’ve gotten back financial aid packets from some schools that are giving me $5-10k price tags which are decent compared to their sticker prices, but not awesome when I have to pay it all myself, with no help from my parents. I can’t make that much working part time! I probably couldn’t even make that much if I had 2 part time jobs. Soooooooo yeah I can’t sleep right now because I’m freaking about being able to pay for college. Yay me! That’s the holiday spirit!
