High School Class of 2018

Rejected from Case. Surprised. Now to work hard on my reach school apps so I have some shred of a chance of acceptance.

@MNgurl101 Congrats on not being rejected! There’s still a chance!

@frazzledazzle Oh no!! Case EA seems like it was so tough this year though. Good luck on you reach schools!

Case seemed really tough this year! It was my friend’s top choice. I haven’t heard anything from him yet, and at this point, I’d feel bad for asking. His SAT was barely at the 25th percentile, so he was really hoping to get accepted. If not, he has a solid safety in Pitt. I’m not gonna see him tomorrow, so we’ll just have to see what happens.

One kid from my school got deferred from Penn while another got rejected. Honestly, I’d hate to be deferred simply because I wouldn’t know what else to add to my application that could make them accept me.

Anyway, I have to work on a research paper, but I just hate it. I don’t know what to focus on. Ugh.

@frazzledazzle Really sorry to hear that about Case. I’m sure you have a lot to offer the right school! Hopefully the reach schools will work out. Also, find a couple of safety schools to apply to also so that you’re not stressing out. Gotta have options! At least that way you have some solid choices that are not ‘reach’. And if you make the ‘reach’ schools - then awesome! It just seems like things are really competitive this time around. Hoping all good things for you!

Hello folks, it’s been a while since I’ve been on this thread. I got into Yale!!! It just hasn’t even sunk in at all despite the fact that my letter is sitting right in front of me, particularly the fact that it’s actually affordable and fees are waived!!!?! I’d been rejected from Questbridge so there was a period of serious anxiety over how on earth we’d pay for college, but goodness, the financial aid is one of the most gracious things I’ve ever been given.

The sincerest of congratulations to those who’ve been accepted, and to those who’ve been deferred or rejected: This is merely the beginning. This time next year, when you’re at a university that’s a wonderful fit for you (because you will be- think positive!), you won’t care about those rejections and they simply won’t matter. I believe in you!!!

@h0kulani Congrats on Yale!!! When you say you got rejected from QuestBridge - do you mean you were a QB Finalist but didn’t Match with Yale - or you didn’t make it as a QB Finalist?

@h0kulani Congratulations! You deserve it and it’s great that it’s affordable!

Has anyone here gone to a Stanford tour? Do you get free stuff? I’ve never visited campus but I really want to snatch up some free pens.

@Southern5062 I wasn’t a QB finalist at all haha

@h0kulani That makes your Yale acceptance even more special, doesn’t it! QB is great but so many people are disappointed when they don’t get Finalist. You are living proof that you keep going - God has a plan! Good for you! I toured Yale over the summer. You’ll love it!

@h0kulani Congrats on Yale!!!

I just finished 1100 words of my research paper. We had 800 due by tonight and then 1200 due after break. I’m excited to get this over with! One of my friends is already finishing his, but he’s usually the type to get done early. This is my last major paper for the semester.

My classes for next semester are all dual enrollment. English Research and Comp is supposedly pretty easy, and it’s through my HS. I have stats online and economics on campus. I have one last class to choose, and I’m hoping for philosophy. But with my luck, the class will fill up before then.

Just got accepted to Villanova engineering! Definitely nice to hear after the Case deferral.

I just found out I got deferred from UMich. It’s one of my most selective schools but it’s my first thing other than an acceptance.

On a more happier note I found out the Florida Institute of Tech is giving me a 18k a year scholarship which actually makes it affordable for me to go! It’s one of my top three!!

@singingwriting I got deferred too. I was really surprised by it actually… 35 ACT, 4.0 GPA, president of 4 school clubs, work 20 hrs/wk.

@Southern5062 Thank you so much!!! that is incredibly kind of you and yeah I’m super excited!

I had such an emotional week… deferred from UMich and Georgetown, accepted to Villanova, BC, and Providence.

@lindsgal Congrats on all your acceptances!!! And as for those deferrals, they’re super competitive schools; deferred isn’t the end of the road. try to focus on the good emotions

So winter break start for anyone else yet? With finals over I think I’m truly ready to binge-watch countless movies, TV shows, and read copiously.

I’m planning on committing to WPI today! Excited!!

For Michigan there are good deferrals and bad deferrals. If you’re overqualified then it’s probably a good deferral - they basically deferred you for yield protection since they think you’d go elsewhere. Otherwise, whelp, sorry. There’s still hope. Heard this from some friends who got deferred.

@MNgurl101 @carmen00 @Southern5062 Thanks you guys! I already got into UMaine Honors College with $9k/year merit scholarships. Applied to University of Colorado EA and will be applying to U Arizona this weekend. Those are my other safeties. Now applying to other schools to try to expand my net, but mainly focusing on my big 3 reach schools to try my darnedest to get into them.
