@MangoLover11223 Yes, 4
okay, so for those of you who aren’t applying after getting in EA, did you visit that school? @averagebean @snowfairy137
@ski_racer which ones are you thinking of?
@MangoLover11223 I’ve already been deferred from Harvard, but I also applied to Yale, Princeton (legacy), and Dartmouth.
It’s funny how the things I never thought were too important like a reflective moment during a car ride or a story my grandmother told me whenever I was little would be so paramount in my college essays.
@MangoLover11223 I’m applying to Dartmouth, Princeton, and maybe Cornell.
@MangoLover11223 I was deferred early from Yale, and am also doing Harvard, Princeton, Brown & Penn.
Speaking of, I had a really amazing interview with a Brown alum earlier this afternoon! He seemed extremely confident that I was going to get in (and that I’d matriculate), saying things like “when you visit for accepted students weekend,” to let him know when I “hear good news from Brown in March,” and that I should reach out to him when I’m choosing professors or programs at the university. He said I seem really open-minded, “immensely talented” and a “perfect fit” for Brown, and that he was “super invested” in me and wanted to keep in touch. I really love the school and I hope it all works out as he seemed so confident it will.
@ski_racer good luck on your apps! Are you going to reapply to Harvard during RD?
@frazzledazzle good luck! Are you applying RD?
@writergirl0316 that’s awesome! I’ve heard that interviews are considered for some colleges in terms of admission, so good job!
@MangoLover11223 Ye, I don’t see why not.
@ak2018 does applying as “other” help your chances in the application though? A majority of the students at my school, including myself, classify as being “other”. I’ve traditionally identified as white on AP tests and Collegeboard tests, but a number of my friends put down “other” thinking it’s a way they can “game the system”. I don’t believe in playing the system, but does this really give them an advantage at all? This has been a topic that’s confused me since freshman year.
@MangoLover11223 yeah! Yale SCEA, and 3 others
@LushLillies Haha thanks! I don’t really get out much to be honest so that explains that but now that I’m getting more into knitting I’m scared that I’m going to be spending a lot more money :)) but regarding a job, I know where I’m going to start working again. Last year I was working at a retirement home in the dietary department and the wage was around 9ish dollars if I’m remembering correctly, but I only ever had 2-3 shifts a week because I was so busy. But now I’m going to be working in my ex-uncle’s grocery store, probably at the registers or back in the bakery with my aunt when I turn 18. I’m definitely taking advantage of every opportunity given to me! I also do stints with pet sitting for neighbors when they go on vacation, which pays decently.
And I’ve been majorly procrastinating on doing my homework this winter break… I did my French assignments before I left for my impromptu trip to Canada with my dad to visit family yesterday, but I still have a lot to do and I did very minimal reading for AP Gov in the car today when we drove back home. I have a listening journal for my vocal jazz class due tomorrow, and for AP Gov I have a summary on the reading I did in the car, plus 2 questions relating to the reading, PLUS I have to answer questions from my textbook. The summary is due Thursday, but the questions are due Tuesday when I come back to school :(( I wish my school district still gave two weeks for winter break instead of having a week now and a week in February for President’s Day (really random - you only need maybe one or two days for that really…)
Please help!
Should I apply to UMichigan? I would be applying to Computer Science (the BSE version). Quick stats: 36ACT, 3.95ish gpa, 3 leadership positions in robotics. (See my chances request if you’re really invested). I don’t actually know much about them but they have stronger programs than Ohio State (which I’ve already been accepted to.) so I would pick them before OSU assuming I don’t dislike the area. But I am also struggling with the supplements and I’m getting very busy and tired of the application process. And there are 3 schools that I would choose above UMich, but they all have acceptance rates of about 20%, so I could be rejected by all.
Should I take my chances with those three schools, or should I put in the extra effort and apply to michigan just in case? (again I’m getting pretty burned out with this. I’m reluctant to do more work but I understand that I might have to.)
@h0kulani I only visited one of the schools, not the other one. The one I didn’t visit was a high reach and I didn’t plan on actually seriously attending until I got accepted. I might visit in the summer.
@Marg532 Dang, $9? I only made $7.25 this summer.
@18college1111 have you applied anywhere Early Action? That might be useful when determining whether or not you should apply…
Hah minimum wage here is $11 and increaseing to $15. I made $16/ hour last summer bc my dual enrollment qualfied me as a “college student” in the place I worked.
@ski_racer I think the reason it’s so high is because there are in the dietary department who are working their as their only job and need to support themselves and often times their small kids. I think that’s why the retirement home placed the minimum earnings that high for my department (obviously the nurses make more than the dietary department). Also @snowfairy137 I’m super jealous! I could only dream to make that much as a teenager
@Marg532 yeah, it’s too bad that that job has fairly limited hours (its a summer camp that only runs for 4 weeks).
@MangoLover11223 Applied EA to Ohio State (accepted), Stanford (rejected), Georgia Tech (? until Jan.)
