@18college1111 you should apply to University of Michigan only if you think you can write good essays in the time left. You don’t want to waste money on the application and end up sending in something that doesn’t really represent you.
@MangoLover11223 Personally, I don’t really know if being “other” gives you an advantage. There is probably something online about it.
@ak2018 Eh kinda does but not to THAT extent. Schools want ethnic diversity to some degree but yea it kinda does but not that much. But if you do say youre other then they eventually check and find out you were giving false information then that would be bad.
@MangoLover11223 I decided against Cornell. Dartmouth and Princeton are both RD. I had to retake SAT tests and take ACT or I would’ve considered applying EA.
Hello everyone!! I’m not sure if anyone remembers me or not, but I used to be pretty active here last year. :’) I ended up avoiding college websites while I procastinated worked on my essays, but now that I’m nearing the end of the process, I’ve started to lurk around on r/A2C, and that made me miss this place. I hope everyone’s ED apps went well, and those still working on RD are making good progress!
I’m posting here to ask (maybe some of you saw my r/A2C thread, I kinda vented my emotions out there…) about the ED counselor agreement. I decided to apply ED II to Mount Holyoke, and I’ve submitted most of my documents. The only thing I’m missing is the ED counselor agreement, but I can’t contact my counselor until the 2nd, but the school’s deadline is the 1st. I’m hoping it’s okay if I turn it in a day late, but ugh I don’t know. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation? I’m going to try to call the MoHo admissions office tomorrow, though I’m guessing they will be closed for break. orz
@LeopardFire I just got a postcard today from William & Mary encouraging me to apply by Jan 1st and it said that all of the transcripts, teacher reccs, etc could be submitted after that. I realize that’s not the school you’re referring to but I really do think that most colleges realize that a Jan 1 deadline means some of those things will come in early January. I think that is prettty much understood.
So guys I’m in a kind of situation that I never thought I would be in… I had been looking at Emerson College for a little bit and really loved it, but I ended up not applying there because my parents didn’t want me too far away or whatever. But they just sent me info about the premier application or whatever which essentially means fee waiver and less questions. They’re also test optional. I had an epiphany after I applied to colleges that my parents can’t really tell me they want me to stay closer to home because, well, they’re not paying for my college at all.
So part of me wants to apply to see what happens, but part of me is hesitating because I don’t want to be a bad child or whatever. Emerson has a really cool degree that I find interesting that revolves around what I want to do, and it’s in Boston, which is my dream. What do you guys think I should do?
@Marg532 I dont think applying’s gonna hurt!
@Marg532 I say go for it!
@snowfairy137 I think what I’m most worried about is the Jan 15 deadline haha
@Southern5062 Yeah, I’ve gotten some emails from colleges saying the same thing. I still don’t know what Mount Holyoke is going to say, but it seems there is nothing I can do but wait and hope for the best. ^^’
@Marg532 I say go for it, but I’m pretty biased since I’m also applying to Emerson. If its totally free I see no downsides, but I would try to get your parents’ blessing regardless. They may not have final say, but they’re still likely to be involved in transportation and your winter/summer home.
@Marg532 I got accepted to Emerson EA. I say apply! It’s a good school right on the Boston Common. You’ll meet a lot of interesting, creative, and ambitious people there.
@carmen00 @LeopardFire I’m currently filling out the application now! If I get in, I hope I can afford it. I’m applying for the Political Communication major.
Edit: does the Emerson App autosave? I can’t find a save button or even a logout button and that scares me haha
Has anyone participated in NHD? I understand the general concept of the event, but i have a few specific questions. Is the event like something you just submit your papers to, or do you have to actually show up to a physical event and participate? Do you have to get a teacher to endorse you or participate in a team bc I’m pretty sure no one at my school has ever done this before.
Thanks!
@Marg532 Not sure. I used the common app.
is it just me that’s doing this but as soon as my apps are in, I’m going to forget about colleges and just let their decisions surprise me; I had too much anxiety waiting for Chicago to the point that I could not function at all. It was a weekend of hell, and I don’t want to go through that again
@carmen00 I figured it out haha it does. Wish it would say it somewhere though :))
@Marg532 Go for it! Emerson is a great school and Boston is amazing! There’s no harm in trying!
Thanks everyone! Now time to convince my parents that traveling Western NY -> Boston and back won’t be horrible lol
Brought it up to my mom and gave her the well rehearsed script of “look at these cheap flight tickets I found and look at all these scholarships they offer and look at the cool major and minor I could do!” and she didn’t flip out. I’m genuinely surprised, as she had previously went off into tizzies every time I mention going somewhere out of state or not her alma mater (in OH).
