High School Class of 2019

I know you guys were talking about this a while ago, but I love English, or rather loved. This year my english teacher is crazy. I love reading and lit, but she is so disorganized. But, we have read some great books this year.

Have any of you guys ever been to a SpaceUp?

@gracecelia I am so split about my English classes
One of them is required and I hate it (er’ryone in my school takes english 9/American history) and the other changes on the semester; first it was on the hisory of the novel, and now it’s about feminist lit.

I /love/ the latter- mostly 'cuz the teacher is chill, and his prompts are super interesting. It’s… honestly my most difficult class, though, and is usually only available for upperclassmen. o.0

@awesomepolyglot wat is this

hey guys! I’ve been MIA for like 2 months but I’m back now. Did you guys hear about the issues with the SAT?

@futuredoctoryang Huh! A little. Not really, though.
Something about invalidated tests in China?

yeah Reuters did a whole report about it claiming that the college board knowingly let international students take tests that were compromised. Also, people are easily hacking the new SAT which is interesting to me because you’d think it would be harder to do so.

@futuredoctoryang Gah. I might end up taking the ACT instead, if that keeps up.

Which sucks! I really like the new SAT! >.>

It will be interesting to see where scores are for the new SAT when they come out in May. I wonder if there will be more perfect scores and lower or higher average scores for individual sections.

@kimclan1 Yeah that’s pretty much why I’ve been following this so much: I want to see how the new SAT turns out.

@OMPursuit I like the new SAT too ): Hopefully they figure it out by the time we need to take it.

@futuredoctoryang For me, that’ll be next year o.O
I’ve got to take either the AMC or SAT for an application D:
I was optimistic about the SAT because Khan Academy has been very helpful, and I’m predisposed towards the writing/reading portion.

I also have to take the SAT next year for an application. We have to take it to apply to NC School of Science and Math, or, at least, that’s what my counselor said.

the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and the Humanities wants it too :frowning:

luckily I feel fairly prepared :V

Do you want to go to that school, @IrrationalPepsi ? How do y’all feel about residential schools?

It would be nice to know if I got in or not if I decided not to go. I wouldn’t want to hate myself. I do not know if I want to go though. I am content with my school and all my friends. It seems kind of daunting leaving home and living with people that I do not know, but I may consider.

Ugh, I wish TN had a residential STEM school.

@awesomepolyglot if I am proud of Indiana for anything, anything, anything- it is this thing

@IrrationalPepsi I really honestly want to attend this school, if only so I’m not lonely af junior and senior years :frowning:

Yeah, the courses are weird at the school. I guess this is kind of cool, but they don’t have traditional English classes. It is kind of random, like one studies Shakespeare, another is some kind of writing class idk. I also heard that the classes at NCSSM are very hard, but my mom urges me to go there because I want to go to Duke.

@IrrationalPepsi I hear the classes are hard at the one by me, too, but I think I can handle the workload.
I am actually really attracted to that weird curriculum. I want to focus less on things I hate (the ‘classics’) and more on things I enjoy in literature (poetry, creative writing, etc).

They’re reprinting most of the hallways at my school and 50% of people are like “ugh it smells awful” and 50% of people are like “let’s get high on paint fumes” and there is no in between

Living in Princeton is so strange, it’s like knowing how great pton uni is makes everyone ultra competitive and feel like they absolutely have to go to a top tier school

Well, I can say with certainty that I am NOT going to Germany.
