Currently forcing my sister into doing Khan Academy.
In the summer, I’m definitely going to take a precalc course, but I’m thinking that if I understand it well enough, I would take AP Calc next year. Would it be pushing it to take Calc BC after a summer’s worth of precalc, or should I stick to AB if I do do well? A bunch of people say that they have skipped from Algebra II to calc, and precalc is sorta not used (which I don’t understand why it wouldn’t be as it is pre-CALC) but I wanted your opinions. If it helps, I am trying to get into Duke for BME, and if I take BC instead of AB, I can fit Comp Sci and Multivar Calc in my schedule.
Currently at UTK. I love college campuses.
@neophite
At my school, all precalc does is solidify your understanding of the toolbox functions.
@IrrationalPepsi my mom is against my idea, but I want to because I dont want an AP overload in future years. Also, highly irrelevant question, but is your profile picture actually you? Cuz if it is, then im incredibly jealous of your hair
@neophite It is lol
Moment of silence to appreciate @IrrationalPepsi’s hair
We were on the third page. That is not okay
Wow, that far back?
@neophite I am a current freshman in Pre Calc and I am taking AB next because they say BC is way more in depth than AB, so it’s easier to take AB first
@neophite I’ve taken Calc II - III as dual credit, and precalculus is absolutely used. (I believe my Calc II covered the same topics as part of AB + all of BC, fwiw). Depending on how great your algebra/trig skills are, you might be able to handle BC without AB, assuming BC also covers AB (limits, differentiation, simple integration)… (all three of my calculus courses were 1 semester in length (each) so I have no yearlong basis of comparison.)
I’ll be doing that too @CharlotteLetter
Is it manageable in the semester format? Did you take it at a CC or a university?
@CharlotteLetter, Mom of D21 here, taking PreAP Alg 1 in 7th grade, making high A’s in the course. Can you tell me did you use any after school supplements to help build stronger Alg/Trig foundation or just the school class.
I am hoping D21 takes BC in 11th grade after precal in 10th.
Wishing all you kiddos the best of luck!
Band kids 4 lyfe.
Originally, I had planned to take the Biology M subject test after AP Biology, but I looked at the practice test that is available online, and it seems better for me to take it at the end of this year…if there are still testing sessions available idk.
@VANURSEPRAC KutaSoftware saved my life for worksheets… Typically, I just typed in the name of the unit followed by “PDF worksheet” and did a lot of those. It’s hard to study that way in high school though, but it should work for now since he is still in 7th grade
