High School Class of 2019

i’ve taken a couple practice tests and studied a little bit to improve the areas of mine that seem weaker
but i’m not too worried bc i don’t think i personally have any use for the scores this year

@noplayallwork um why wouldn’t I care?

i havent even taken the practice test yet b/c im too lazy to
i’ll definitely do it soon though

though i dont really understand the point of practicing for a test thats practice for another test :stuck_out_tongue:

PSAT scores act as a benchmark for your college preparedness during highschool, as opposed to near its end. They act as a good benchmark when applying for summer programs, internships, research opportunities and the like- not to mention qualifying you for merit aid in junior year. @literallyliteral

@adiacs because racial diversity is meaningless? Why do you care about interracial relationships?

@noplayallwork because they represent the disruption of social stigmas present in full force in our parents’ generation, and their parents’ generation, and in relatively limited form my generation, too.

Random distributions might naturally have heavy majorities… but human love isn’t random, it’s a selection process.
If you’re not seeing many interracial relationships in a large group and racial diversity is significant, people in that group are likely selecting against other races for whatever reason.

Here in Southern Indiana, it can be social stigma. In South Carolina, it can be social stigma. In wherever @adiacs is, it could be social stigma. In that case, I’d also be very enheartened to see more such relationships! Heck, it makes me feel likewise in the same way seeing them around here.

now, tho, I’m interested: why do you care so much about internet people feelings?

While I do not think that you consciously choose who you’re going to fall in love with, I do agree with what @OMPursuit is saying. Social stigmas drive everything that you do, albeit subconsciously. However, once you’re open or accepting to things, you’ve just opened yourself up to a whole new world of experiences and involvements. You cannot help who you love and you cannot really choose what you like, but I do think that those open to more things are more likely to try more things. This can be applied to much more than just love and relationships.

^^^well said my dudes

Science Bowl teams should be released today! !!!

!!!

I have PSATs on the 19th. I haven’t studied yet either as I am struggling to find the time. Khan Academy has some practice tests and exercises.

GUESS WHO MADE THE SCIENCE BOWL TEAM

ME

I’m the only sophomore and second youngest team member. The youngest is a freshman who’s craaazy good at math and physics.

@kimclan1, yup, I’m taking it. And I’ve done no prep whatsoever because of midterms coming up. But I’m planning on using Khan Academy to brush up my Reading skills, and Geometry basics (because that was so long ago). Practice tests help a lot as well, just to get used to the format.

Also, I completely agree with @adiacs and @OMPursuit. It really is important to see beyond ethnicity, so interracial relationships strengthen that so much. I’m also extremely happy to see more interracial relationships. It’s so sweet

Edit (sorry, posted before adding this): I do see your point @noplayallwork, but I do believe that interracial couples becoming more common indicates that we are moving past racial divides.

Anyway, I’m going to see Michelle Obama at NC State today and I’m so excited!!

MICHELLE WAS AMAZING OH MY GOD SHE’S EVERYTHING

My stem club is going to science Olympiad this year!! I’m so excited that we were able to pull this off, this’ll be the first year my school’s sent anybody!

School’s been cancelled tomorrow and Friday for me because of the hurricane. I have mixed feelings about this.

Stay safe!!

Thanks, you gotta love hurricane season :frowning:

Anyone else here feeling the effects of hurricane matthew? The storm is totally freaking me out…

@Shanban1607 Indirectly. My German teacher had to take a day off to help his family evacuate.
