High School Class of 2019

We have like a week I think to add/drop classes

@awesomepolyglot What this is so early! We go back the second week of September.

We get 6 weeks to drop an AP or honors class. We get our schedules online through a portal, which reduced the hassle of going to school, but since I am going to a senior high this year, I’ll probably stop by school early in August to check out my classes.

@shaneyboy123 I am studying for the SAT right now, as well as some coding for my computer science class next year. I recently started a tutoring job too, but that’s only 2 days a week. Pretty relaxing summer, aside from the impending doom that is junior year.

I go back August 9!

I go back September 7th but I did not get out of school until June 26th. I just got back from a precollege course at Brown which was amazing, and now I have a paying internship and another internship/class in the field that I want to pursue so it is very exciting! And of course, studying for the ACT, AP summer hw, etc.

@bway5492 That sounds really exciting! I think 2 people from my grade also went to a Brown program this summer.

They don’t let you drop down in level at my school :-/ They sometimes allow for adding classes in the first week or two, though.

Anyone doing IB?

I screwed up freshman year so no ap classes for me haha but Im taking

When you haven’t started studying for the ACT yet… does anyone know of the best, least time consuming way to study for it? (Planning to get it over with ASAP.)

I would recommend purchasing a review book (my personal favorite is Crack the ACT by Princeton Review) and doing practice tests. These books have explanations of all the wrong answers, as well as strategies for specific sections/types of questions if you need.

@equationlover uh just guess on stuff you don’t know

Has anyone taken the SAT yet? I’m thinking of taking the November 4 test but idk if it is too close to the PSAT and if I should wait for my PSAT score first.

@Bookgal12 I’m also planning on taking it in November. I don’t think it is too close to the PSAT, and considering its supposed to be a practice for the real SAT, I wouldn’t be scared to take it then. Also, if you don’t get the score you want on the November one, you get December to improve your chances!

I’m not sure what date I want to take the SAT… I want time to study (I really need to raise my score haha) and get PSAT results, but also want time to retake it. I also need to take the subject tests on a different date, preferably June so it’s close to the end of the respective class. So maybe March for the SAT and retake in August? I don’t think May will work unfortunately. Ugh.

We are juniors now…

@shaneyboy123 @Bookgal12 I am trying to conquer the PSAT and SAT at the same time because they both are essentially the same test (one is slightly easier and shorter). You may want to take the SAT earlier (like August, October, December) because now that there is no January date, people usually take subject tests in June, and the APUSH and other AP exams are literally the day before the May date. Then if you are applyibg EA/ED this only leaves the March, Decmeber, and August date. I am taking the SAT in August and PSAT in October and am planning to retake the SAT if needed in November/December. That way, if I take subject tests I can be done in June. Also, if I decide after taking the August date that the ACT is better for me I can take the ACT in April, June, or September (and. If I drive for 2 hours also in February and July). This is just a suggestion.

@kimclan1 Do you think taking SAT in October would be bad so close to the PSAT? I don’t want to feel like I did badly and ruin my confidence going into the PSAT. I was originally thinking to take the SAT November and December, but now I don’t know. Any advice?

I don’t think that it would be bad to take it in October unless I you are really worried about it taking a toll on your confidence. Taking it in November or December would be fine though. Have your already started studying for the SAT/PSAT?

@kimclan1 Yup, I have been studying since June. I can’t do August because that’s when my sister is moving out to college so I have to travel and drop her off. If that wasn’t a problem, I probably would have signed up for August.
