High School Class of 2019

Usually your exam scores don’t play a role in admissions, my gc said that in this situation they think you were lazy in class and studied for the test and got a 4 or 5. This situation is usually a red flag

How was everyone’s grades for first quarter? Our district’s quarter ended last week. I managed to get 7 As and 1 A- in 4 AP classes and 3 Honors classes (languages are CP or AP in my school). I’m also pretty proud of myself for being a “most improved” student in AP Physics (I didn’t actually get an award or anything lol, I just surprised myself). I went from a 2/20 on my first quiz (AP questions) to a 33/35 on a UCONN college physics (1201) midterm!

I hope everyone else’s first quarter went smoothly. I’m taking the SAT w/ essay in December, but I feel pretty confident that I could get a score somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500. On my first practice test back in September, I got a 1470, and I’ve definitely improved since then with some tutoring sessions and more practice.

no one told me junior year would be this hard

@literallyliteral same! I moved to a new school and started the IB: it’s been super intense and I’m just a tiny bit overwhelmed.

@bway5492 I’m actually in the opposite situation as you. My school has two calculus AB teachers, and I’m one of the lucky ones who got into the easier teacher’s classes. Literally barely anyone has an A in the hard teacher’s class, while there’s people with 100%+ in my class (although its a small amount).

So do you guys have homework over Thanksgiving? I will have homework in every class, plus preparations for my French oral interview and presentation. It’s pretty common to have hw over break, but my physics prof has a huge online homework due ON Thanksgiving day.

@literallyliteral Same. I literally don’t sleep and every week is just a constant cycle of longing for the weekend.

Also, does anyone know what constitutes as a 4.0? Would like to calculate my gpa but every source says something different…

@clancularius It sadly depends by college. Try looking it up for a few of your top choices and then calculating it.

I think I’ve been holding on pretty well this semester. Hasn’t been the easiest doing four college classes (online) and my school classes, but I’ve been managing. Next semester should be fun, though. The college classes I am taking are not so “general” as my current classes (ex. freshman comp), but they are classes I want to take so I am excited for that. The classes are Modern Western Civilization, Philosophy, Anthropology, and Mythology. Along with that, at school I will be taking US History with a pretty tough teacher, but nonetheless a good one, so I am excited for that. Then I have Debate, and my tech program. Just need to find time to study for SATs in March, because I know I’ll need it. Glad to see everybody challenging themselves this year (: it’ll all be worth it in the long run.

Anyone looking at Clemson? If so, LMK and what do you like/not like about it?

thinking about getting a part time job soon but it would mean dropping some ECs that i’ve been doing since freshmen year (i’m already crazy pressed for time). might literally HAVE to though to pay for college, but would it hurt my apps or will colleges understand if it’s explained?

@literallyliteral Can’t you shoot for merit? Otherwise I think colleges would understand, I wish my parents would have let me work.

Anyone doing any summer programs this year? Applications for a few come out soon.

Does anyonw know how I can sign up for the programs that colleges do for high schoolers? My teacher told me that the apps come out in a few weeks

@TN034154 If you mean things like summer programs I’d check the websites of each college. I think CC has it’s own forum for summer programs as well. I don’t know much about them either.

it’s the month of merry

Can’t believe junior year is almost halfway over! Grades come out in a week, I feel like I might be royally screwed. Also, who took the December SAT here?

anxiously waiting for psat results

hey gang this is my first time logging in in like 11 months haha
Whats up!!

im at risk of getting 2 (even 3?) B’s this semester… ouch my GPA. at best i’m getting a 3.8 unweighted. seriously what are these classes
