Hi Catsarecute,
I am glad that you are transferring to a new school for a better education. I did the same, last summer I was thinking if it was the right decision. Now, I do not regret anything. My new school has given me better opportunities than my previous school and has provided me with honors. I go to a school which is top 20 in the state of NJ (located in a not so good area but it is worth it). The academics are harder (because I take honors and it will only be harder) but I am sure you will make time to join things you are strongly devoted in. On the other hand I was reading an article in which the reputation of your school can go a long way, statistically.
Eyyy, Class of 2020 reppin!! Anyways, here’s what I’m taking this year.

@1704CPETKS What is Fitness Lifestyle Design? Is it just a fancy name for Health, or is it something different?

@Bobbybob444555 What is Experimental Science Honors?
And does everybody else take some type of history/social science this year? At our school there are no history classes available to take until our sophomore year.
In my area we have world history in 9, us history in 11, and gov/economics in 12. Experimental science is like an Academy class.
Wow
I’m shocked how much this thread has grown from when I first made it. I hope everyone’s year is going well. Don’t stress about past grades! Focus on the future ones!
Hey guys! I’m so glad to have found this thread…

Basically, 2 of my classes are essentially free periods. What’s more worrying is that one of my free classes was AP HUG. Now, I have to self-study at the last second for my AP HUG exam because we still have 4 chapters left, and we are using out-dated books (from 2010!!!). Plus, I took a practice exam, and I got a 64 (ya, its pretty bad).
EC’S
*Speech and Debate (Have done no competitions but a few in-school events)
*Web Design Club ( Have entered a competition but didnt win)
No Community Service
Any tips? I’m planning on apply for the state’s Governor’s School in eleventh grade but I don’t want to leave my family and friends.
@Razer1 Your schedule is pretty good.
But I think the biggest challenge for our class is the growing selectivity of public flagship colleges. From what I have gathered on College Confidential, I have come to the conclusion that thanks to the common app, what were slightly competitive schools a decade ago are now super competitive. Now, many good students are forced to either stay in-state or attend a less well-known public university (U of Alabama, UT-Dallas, U of South Carolina Honors College, Illinois Tech, NOTE:I have nothing against these schools).
@chicago55215 If I were you I wouldn’t skip Pre-calc unless you really understand the material. There’s no rush to finish your school’s math track early, IMO.
@Mahindra Yeah, it seems pretty much everything is getting more competitive, but people still want to get into the same (ridiculously selective) colleges (you know, Harvard and whatnot) because of prestige. I’ll admit I’m majorly guilty of this.
Also, how are you taking English II as a freshman?
@myactualname I finished Eng 1 in 8th grade.
@bawbdmo Yeah, I’m still unsure about skipping Pre-Calc. I’ve looked through the textbook and it seems like I know about 85-90% of the material covered. (My school’s math program is also relatively weak because we use IMP.) Anyone have any tips?
Wow I feel dumb for being in geometry right now lol. At my school, geometry is advanced, so seeing all these APs in freshman is shocking lol. literally all we have is english, math and science honors.
my schedule is
English H
Biology H
Geometry H
PE
Newspaper
Spanish 1
I’ve decided to transfer to a new school next year that’s a lot more rigorous. However, im concerned that I wouldnt be as strong compared to other people who did freshman year there since they have more advanced classes for freshman. do you all think it would be a big deal?
Right? I have no idea how all these people have APs as freshmen
