@nerdy01
@Microsoft_Ninja
I will probably take AP Physics C Mechanics & AP Chem in 11th grade and then AP Bio in 12th. Thanks for telling me. I knew it would be hard but didnt know it would be THAT hard.
@Mahindra That sounds like a much more manageable schedule for a strong science student!
On another note, does anyone know when PSAT scores will be out? Some people say 2 weeks, while others say 8 weeks, so I’m a little confused.
@Microsoft_Ninja I might take it the semester after Physics M
Next semester or next year?
@Microsoft_Ninja Next semester of 11th grade so next year
Your school doesn’t have a year long E&M class
@Microsoft_Ninja Not the school that i am applying to. I am planning to apply to a boarding school in 11th grade
cool
OMG! Wow, @Mahindra you are taking such a rigorous schedule for junior year. I would love to congratulate you on that, as if everybody else did! You should do Chem and Bio in the same year, though I heard Bio can be a killer, and detrimental to your GPA. Definitely take, Physics in a different year than Bio, unless you really are scientifically-inclined.
I am having a hard time debating AP vs. IB. The thing I like about IB are the courses, but I hate the inflexibility and rigidity of the program. I can’t pick or choose what courses I really want to take, and it is really hard for me to decide. IB eats up about 7 out of 8 periods, and certain electives only run in certain time slots, so if my free space isn’t during the period I want, I am stuck with study hall. Whereas with AP, I can do some course shopping.
AP Schedule (potentially):
AP US History
AP English Language OR English 3 Honors (dependent on grades, and how my writing is at the end of the year)
Pre-Calc Honors
AP Statistics
AP Economics
AP Psychology
AP Environmental Science
IB Schedule (potentially):
IB History of the Americas HL1 (every IB junior takes this)
IB English A: HL (pt. 1) (every IB junior takes this)
AP US Government & Politics (government is a graduation requirement)
Spanish 3 H (how the language sequencing works at my school)
IB Economics HL
IB Math SL
IB Biology SL
I have no idea which one is harder.
UPDATE: I have IB Core and IB Theory of Knowledge if I do it.
plenty of people in my school take 6 or more AP’s, it all depends on how hard someone is willing to work
My school does not offer AP Physics 1.
so AP physics C?
@thehhs12 Take AP. Its much easier than IB.
well not always. In some cases it is much more difficult. I have some friends who went from ap chem to ib chem and said ib was much easier. This is also true for physics c. Now you are right in some cases, such as psychology, which is more difficult in ib
Yes, only AP Physics C is offered. I understand that it may be difficult to get a full grasp on the situation, but my choice of science is quite justified.
I could take AP Chem/Bio/Env, but I hear colleges request at least one year of physics. You are required to take a regular science before an AP, and for this reason, I would not have the option to take AP Physics C without a pre-requisite year of Honors Physics. After all, I don’t think I’d want to get stuck taking honors physics as a 12th grader, as that is the regular science pathway.
I guess my only question to you is how many AP classes you have previously taken. If the answer is less than 3, then I would not recommend jumping into 6 all at once. In my opinion, you really can’t get a grasp on what your limits are in terms of AP course rigor until you’ve had the experience with a few already.
@nick3162 Thx
@Microsoft_Ninja Oh ok
@Microsoft_Ninja re #571 where do the AP students from your school matriculate?
