High School Class of 2020

@thehhs12

not judging, just curious

I didn’t get a say in the matter. I was put in all CP classes this year, and this is why I am super anxious.

I really want Honors Chem, but I am scared it might not happen after that hiccup.

Chemistry is the bridge between bio and physics. Biology is a lot of memorization, and physics is a lot of math. The way I approached chem in the beginning was incorrect, and I approached it like I approached bio. I studied the textbook and study guide a lot and still didn’t do well. Then I realized that I should be PRACTICING, like practicing for a math test, instead of like bio. Study chem like you would study for math and you’ll do fine.

@thehhs12 what happened on the test? Did you psych yourself out or just not study properly? The reason I ask is because you can work on either part and improve but you need to know what went wrong in order to correct it. I used to really psych myself out before tests and no matter how much I studied it didn’t matter. I actually forced myself to study less, go to sleep, and eat a good breakfast and that was better than more studying. I knew the material. Anyway, good luck in the class. CP isn’t bad by itself, but do your best to excel and are able to take classes you want to in the future, whether that’s CP or AP or honors.

@thehhs12 It’s very understandable that you are feeling pressure by the terrible Chem grade, I can completely understand your sadness from this situation, but @Microsoft_Ninja and @Itwixster explained this very well, so it’s really hard for me to add anything.

The best I can say is that you may still have a chance for Honors Chem if you do well in second quarter. I faced a similar situation to this in my English class last year, when I didn’t know there was a back to a vocab quiz worth a lot of points, which dropped my grade from an A to a B. I was able to end the class with a final grade of an A because I kept getting an A in the rest of the quarters and the final exam. If you are able to do something similar, the B- may turn out to be a much better grade by the end of the year.

@Microsoft_Ninja 's advice on chem is very good. Chem in a way is kind of like math, and it is more beneficial to practice the concepts, such as practicing electron configuration, sig figs, etc. rather than trying to memorize the topics, as Chemistry is very different from Biology.

I hope this helped and have a good day!

Im in Honors Chemistry right now, and its going pretty good. I liked Biology a lot more than I’m enjoying chemistry, but I’m doing a lot better in chemistry than i did in Biology. What I do to study is I read over the notes a day before the test and I practice the math portion like others said before. I would just do some practice problems and you should be good.

@Mike51702 We’re in the same position except I’m enjoying chem more than bio! I’m glad you’re getting a good grade in the class!

Have a good day!

Hey all,

I’ve noticed that someone mentioned about applying to Governors school, and I know it is different in other states, but for me (NJ) its is only for seniors and we have only 2 types :frowning:

Its pretty sad but for those that are applying, best of luck

Have a good rest of the night (well, at least from here)!

Already looking into colleges and improving my resume, started a Business Club at my school.

Yay! Which colleges are you looking into? @Jacobennett3

Is anyone else happy with their first quarter grades?

I’m not

@Microsoft_Ninja Happy with most, especially a 98 in AP bio, a little irritated with a 94 in intro to comp sci because it’s an easy class (no homework, all the help you could want) and I slacked but still thrilled with my 4.22 weighted 4.0 UW with my first AP class

@Microsoft_Ninja I got a 89 in Precalc Honors, That is my first b ever since elementary school. That is the one grade that pisses me off

We all share the bad grade pain then

I have an 89 in AP Cal AB, but its ok since we have 2 more tests and the midterm left in the semester so I know that I can bring it up. Don’t feel discouraged if your grades aren’t where you want them to be right now! If you work hard you can bring them up!

@Microsoft_Ninja @nerdy01 Thx. Does anyone know any other good summer research programs that are affordable ?

For my first quarter grades i had all As and 2 A-s so ok but not the best. I’m hoping to raise at least one of them to an A but my other A- might stay as an A-. However, for my school the quarer grades don’t count they just roll over for the semester so they don’t matter.
